  • So LFL announced a spin-off film on my all-time favorite character Obi-Wan. Here's hoping it doesn't eat bantha turds like Force Awakens.
A new apartment, an entirely different state, & a new school. My first time living on my own officially starts now...wish me luck, guys.
I have the money set aside, & one eye on the pre-order page for the SNES Classic. Now, all that's left is the terrible, silent waiting game.

Largely, the bulk of the complaints I hear about Rebels (and indeed this video), is that it isn't as dark or sophisticated as Clone Wars before it. And that's by design...IT ISN'T CLONE WARS. It's meant to emulate the underdog, Flash Gordon-esque feel of the Original Trilogy, and it does that really well.

Just because it's not similar in nature to its predecessor doesn't make the story less enjoyable, or the characters less endearing. The SW fanbase's reaction Rebels really, REALLY reeks of the same pre-formed bias that plagued DmC. It's different, so it's not as good.

It was the opposite with me. I avoided Clone Wars and was drawn to Rebels because of superficial reasons -- I liked Ezra's name, blue mullet hair, and blastsaber.
https://goo.gl/d4cu7Y Look at all these Rey figures cluttering the clearance aisle. It's Ghostbusters 2016 all over again...

...Maybe not. The production problems plaguing the Solo movie may hinder it just like the way constant reshoots hindered the pacing and character development of Rogue One. I'm hoping it turns out well. But I know one thing for certain: Season 4 of Rebels will obliterate The Last Jedi in every department, just like all three of the past seasons have taken turns deflowering TFA.

I don't know, it still might. If The Last Jedi is anything like TFA then it probably will. I can't say I've watched Rebels (a clip or two), but from what I've heard it's really good.

I highly recommend Rebels. It captures the essence of the underdog, Flash Gordon-esque simplicity of the Original Trilogy, without copying plot-points or characters verbatim like TFA did.
"I'm being torn apart. I want to be free of this pain." Songfic dialogue, you say? Nope. Just the condensed cringe that is the TFA script.

I imagine a lot of metal song lyrics would sound like tripe if you tried to pass them off as regular dialogue between characters...especially if the lines were delivered by a pasty emo pussywillow like Diet Jacen Solo--I MEAN, Kylo Ren.

That sounds kinda like one of those pretentious dramas Hollywood makes in hope of winning an Oscar. Or anime drama. Or drama in general, either way requiring a powerful performance and mostly female audience.
    WolfOD64
    WolfOD64
And it sucks, because not all females fawn over saccharine anime or diabetes-inducing melodrama. I have female friends who HATE love dramas and sappy anime, and arguably hate Kylo Ren more than I do, if that's even possible.
It's really sad when an indie movie like Valerian has more visual nuance & creative alien species than the DISNEY FUNDED Star Wars films.

Absolutely. Hell, if both characters were brunettes, I would've thought it was a Jacen and Jaina Solo movie.

@Ash I was actually alright with Rogue One, if I'm being perfectly honest; WILDLY superior to The Farce Awakens, for no other reason than its attempts to be more creative. Does it rip off of EU concepts like Dark Forces? Certainly. But it's a decent effort all the same...nowhere near as good as Rebels, though.
The Expanded Universe will always dwarf new weak-sauce Star Wars brand purely because it embodied what the latter sorely lacks: Originality.
The legendary Kentaro Miura, my favorite manga author & one of the last bastions of talent in Japan, turns 51 today. お誕生日おめでとうございます, 三浦先生.

I'm still grateful we got anything. I imagine the blu-rays will sadly be way higher quality that what we got, because that seems to be what they do nowadays...

I was referring to the medium at large, not Berserk in particular (I actually enjoyed the recent series just fine, since the story endured). Anime is just...lackluster as an art form nowadays. The originality, the variety of genres, the pioneering of talent and inspiration...it's all gone. And I say this as someone who only got into it in the last few years.
    WolfOD64
    WolfOD64
Berserk, Fist of the North Star, Macross, Vampire Hunter D...everything I love in anime is stuff I wasn't born to witness, but I found by looking back in the archives of the medium to escape from the mundanity of its modern, lesser state. It was just a more appealing medium in the 80s and 90s. Now, it's the same genre, art style, and cliches EVERYWHERE...and it's narcolepsy-inducing.
RE: Vendetta was fanTASTIC. It was like if someone made a movie out of Mercenaries Mode. All that was missing was the scoreboard.
Holy hot DAMN. Star Fox 2, the Game that Never Was, is getting a FULL release after 22 years on the SNES Mini. S-Someone hold me...

I'm getting the Japanese version. It's subbed, and free of CyberConnect2's awful voice acting.

I suppose so. The only game they've done that I think had good voice acting is .hack and .hack//GU.
The Han Solo movie's directors just jumped ship over a year into production due to Kathleen Kennedy not giving them enough creative freedom.

The wrong kind of diversity is being pushed, for all of the wrong reasons, and executed in all the wrong ways. I'm very much in agreement with you that it's the fault of the writers involved, & not with the concept of diversity itself. But not only was SW not in dire need of a more diverse cast in the first place, the diverse characters they have are so vapid & hollow that it renders the effort useless.
    WolfOD64
    WolfOD64
Also, you know what bothers me about the cast of Rogue One? The fact that there's five humans and a droid...in a galaxy BRIMMING with aliens. How about instead of emphasizing Whites, Chinese, or Middle Eastern Actors, you try, oh, I dunno...Iridonians? Rodians? Pikes? Trandoshans? For Christ's sake, Rebels got this right, and it's Disney XD Cartoon.
    DragonMaster2010
    DragonMaster2010
Now THAT I can agree with. I never understood why the entirety of the Rogue one was JUST humans. I get that back then the rebels were mostly human in the original trilogy due to technology not being as advanced to make aliens, but I would figure at least a few other species would be rebels too.
"Metal Gear Survive doesn't understand the series' Strength." So I take it those strengths don't include the writing...or stealth.

Technically, he brainwashed himself to make everyone believe that he was possessed by that hand. But yeah, I can see your point. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. To you, I suggest Splinter Cell 1-3 if you haven't played them already. They've got none of what you hate about MG.

    WolfOD64
@tehrugger Why on Earth would I do that? What, is Metal Gear something so pristine and sacred that it's not subject to criticism? I don't agree with the universal hatred Star Wars fans laud on the Prequels, but they have every right to critique them. Also, "slanderous" is something of a dramatization. Besides, if I'm not informed on the things I hate, I have no place commenting on them.

@Teal I have indeed played Splinter Cell 1-3, as well as Double Agent, and I love all of them. I like a lot of stealth games like Velvet Assassin, Styx, and Deus Ex, but it grinds my gears whenever I hear the usual shrieks of "METAL GEAR INNOVATED STORYTELLING" or "WUZ THE FIRST REAL STEALTH GAME." Liking the series is one thing, but falsely attributing it w/ accolades it hasn't earned is another.
The new Mummy Reboot failed to top ANY of the Brendan Frasier movies....as God intended.

@Foxtrot94 You're right, I was onboard with it, when they announced that Tom Cruise was a part of it...and then they announced that the film would be set in modern day, as opposed to the 1930's Age of Archaeology...which robs it of all of its pulp, adventure feel, which destroyed any and all motivation to see it.
    WolfOD64
    WolfOD64
Furthermore, he mentions how Star Wars is, by nature, a story of "Resistance", when George Lucas only ever intended that to be the theme of the OG Trilogy, as opposed to the Decay of a Utopian Society in the Prequel Trilogy and Clone Wars, and the Rebuilding of a Lost Age with the post-ROTJ Expanded Universe (which he acknowledged enough to include locations and characters from in the Prequels).

This dismissive attitude that this guy and many other casual Star Wars fans, whose only experience with the franchise is whatever they see on-screen, is exactly the kind that renders them unsuitable to try at armchair analyses of Star Wars. If they don't know basic **** about the Star Wars Universe as a whole, I have no reason to take a syllable of his analysis seriously.
    WolfOD64
    WolfOD64
Then again, his other videos demonstrate belief in non-existent concepts like "toxic masculinity", so I'd be hard-pressed to take him seriously anyway.
So now, Lucasfilm outright ADMITS that they hadn't planned out the story past The Force Awakens. And people wonder why I'm so jaded w/ them.
According to Totalbiscuit, Prey is "a better Deus Ex than Mankind Divided." Excuse me for a moment while I puke in my own mouth.

@Foxtrot94 I felt like it was mostly a difference between what people expected vs what they got. A lot of people expected Mankind Divided to do a lot more with the conspiracy plot, but in reality it was about Jensen working at Interpol. The latter plot got a fine conclusion in Mankind Divided, while the former didn't.
    WolfOD64
    WolfOD64
Mankind Divided was intended as the middle chapter of a trilogy. The previous game answered practically all the questions it raised, so it was down to MD to raise more for a final chapter. I've played the game, and any side-quests or plot-points that end with vague, cliff-hanger resolutions clearly indicated that they would be answered properly in a future game.

    WolfOD64
The original Deus Ex did this, and Invisible War did it. The only game that DIDN'T do this was HR, which I guarantee you is the first game of everyone filing this complaint.
Roger Moore had the airs & suave of Bond in all walks of life, not just film. I'll always remember him in A Spy Who Loved Me. Godspeed, 007.
