I think the reason why many people like Metal Gear's writing is that it's not well-researched enough to be taken seriously but also not completely detached from reality. I bet Kojima simply Googled "Y2K bug" and thought "I need to make this a plot point!". And stealth WAS present in Metal Gear. Maybe less so in MGS 1 and 2, but still...
@Teal While I appreciate that sentiment, I've met one too many fanatic voices, many of which in the actual gaming I might add, lauding Metal Gear's writing as a landmark in gaming. I'd love to believe that the bulk of the fanbase loves the story for its absurdity, but too much evidence points to the contrary.
Also...I should mention that every main game in the franchise has been explicitly declared by Konami and Kojima himself as stealth games. But calling the barebones mechanics and awkward controls---which persisted in every game up until MGS4, for the record---was not only outdated after years of reuse, but I'd argue outdated even on release.
the problem with Survive is that it doesnt feel as inspired as Revengeance was. For all its faults Reveangance did try to use the series's lore where Survive feels like an uninspired fanfic.
If you say so. I mean, Metal Gear itself has writing and concepts on par with bad fanfics...cyborg ninjas, homoerotic vampires, cringey dialogue, anime melodrama and all. Adding zombies is probably the most normal and grounded thing in the series, and even with the non-existent explanation they will get, it will STILL likely be more sensible than anything Kojima has ever penned.
We're talking about the franchise where a character inherited the personality of another antagonist by surgically attaching said antagonist's HAND. When you have such retarded concepts like that, the only obligation new writers have is to swill enough paint to conjure something that skull-crushingly stupid.
