I bought the 19 blade fan for the PS3 and as it turns out I bought the wrong power supply. The standard power supply that comes with a PS3 is the APS-226 and it draws in (I think) 200 watts but the PS3 doesn't need anywhere hear that. Whatever energy the PS3 doesn't use the power supply converts into heat which is what caused the fat PS3s to over heat after a few years of constant high temperatures. So I had to buy a APS-231, which brings in less power, which equals less heat, and even when the PS3 is using the highest amount of energy, the 231 provides plenty.
The fan is a 15 blade fan which I've read doesn't do as good a job distributing the air flow as the 19 blade fan, which is the factory spec, but they were repealed for the CECHC## models (3rd production model of PS3s) which had software based backwards compatibility as opposed to hardware; In other words they didn't have a PS2 build inside them anymore. Same applies for the 231 power supply, factory spec that got replace in order to make production cheaper along with the system.
With these I am supposed to be able to improve, drastically, the longevity of my fat PS3, though I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a system that had a hardware Based backwards compatibility.
