You know the type of person who just cannot deal with being wrong sometimes? And if you prove them wrong at anything, they just quickly make some excuse to cover their fault, pretend it was a joke and they actually knew this, or even blame you for stirring their head... you know the type?

You just described the internet, basically.

Yeah I did, and if it was the internet, it would've been nothing new. Seen worse stuff online.
But this was related to work, and I hate how this kind of unnecessary egoism cuts down the efficiency in our services. It was just childish to get mad at me because of an obvious fact, with which I had nothing to do with and which cannot be changed by any human being in this world.

---

I love Aldous Huxley's famous dystopian novel Brave New World, but I love the HBO series based on it as well. Just that I don't know if I should love them both at all because the series has practically nothing else to do with the book than the world-building and main character names. The book is great, and for some reason I feel like I shouldn't like the series then.
Stop the press, I've got some first world problems over here...

The internet is a reflection of how ugly the world is. Not just one country, or whatever. Just the world. So many idiots who would display their egos out in the world. What you just experienced is coming up close and personal with a person in that ugly world.

Just be polite, and move on from the subject as soon as the attitude wells up. You can't win with these people. I was just in eye doctor's appintment, and a few staff members were rude to us, so we responded by fighting back. There's always someone above them, so just do your job and you won't get any pushback from losers like this. I agree that their attiude is disgusting, but at the end of the day, you're there for a paycheck. I know you're trying to help people, but if they're not going to listen, then it's better to just smile and go about your suggestions. If they don't listen, and they get COVID19, that's their fault.

I'm trying to keep up on that nowadays. I've learned that the best way to react to egoism and narcissism is not to react, not to go back to their level. But this was a situation I couldn't avoid.

I'm working as a cook again, and we had a customer who needed both vegan and gluten-free lunch. Our gluten-free lunch was a tomato soup with selectable protein add-ons, but those add-ons were not vegan. Without add-ons the soup is just not enough.

I proposed to fry some mushrooms for the soup since we had a lot of them, and my coworker just rolled their eyes and said "they're VEGAN. Vegans don't eat mushrooms you know". Which they do.
I asked them to check if the customer themself would be OK with mushrooms and they were happy to have some. So my coworker spent the rest of the day ranting about vegans and glaring at me because well, obviously they were ashamed about it.

The vegan customer in question left some feedback for us with huge thanks for the excellent service. Wouldn't have happened with only the tomato soup.

Right. I'm not a big fan of tomatoes or mushrooms in my soup, but if I'm going to get a good taste, I'll listen. But, as I said, some people are vile, and will just leave with parting shots. You got lucky that he/she left good rating, despite pushback.

The customer didn't hear this conversation, it happened in the kitchen. Luckily...

It's a small thing, I know, just that it doesn't feel right when someone who is in a position where they should know vegan food better than me, delays the order because they are so convinced that mushrooms are animals and can't believe they'd be wrong in this. You should've seen the look in my coworkers face when I just asked them to ask the customer if they'd like to have fried mushrooms. They just rolled their eyes and told me "yup, I will ask", leaving the "you're gonna be so wrong in this" unsaid, but it could be well head in their tone.

It wouldn't have been a big deal, just some mushrooms, but this kind of stuff happens way too often with this one and it really affects my efficiency and mood. Also, I didn't like how they spoke about vegan customers the whole day after this. It wasn't the customer's fault, I wanted to serve them well, in which I succeeded. It shouldn't be a problem in the kitchen if a customer likes the food they are served with.

And guess what? Ranting about that vegan was still on today.
Thank God I've got two days off.

Looks like there's another uptick of BBAs in Twitterland again. Oh, and how droll--one stars on both of my books for daring to speak out against harassing readers. Gods, they're predictable. Frankly I'm surprised it's only one each, given the feathers I've ruffled. They still seem to be missing a crucial detail: Unlike them, I give zero ****s. All they've done is balanced out the ratings and proved my point. *shrug*

Google and YouTube's so called "algorithm" must be really s***ty if they still think I give a f*** about "reaction videos".

When I am looking for the intro of an anime or a certain anime scene, I only want to see the clip I am searching for.
I am not interested in the reaction of random strangers.

I'm not trying to defend or make excuses for google or YouTube, but the actual recommendation isn't based on your liking react videos, but rather, the creators. Let's say you like to watch news of China, it will recognize that, and recommend it, that's why they stop demonetizing that kind of content. Same with COVID19. If you like videos where random strangers talk about gaming news like Spawn Wave, then they'll recommend it. It snowballs from there. But if you are getting react videos, it's the creators they're recommending you, not the type of videos.

Just an F.Y.I.

Can the "recommendations" worm its way into search results?
Because I'm not talking about how these videos pop up under "recommendations" but among search results when I look for a specific subject.

Yeah, it does. Thing is, YouTube =/= Google, so.. most of the searches on YouTube is SEO. How you found this site is basically SEO.

There is an algorithm in YouTube, but that search bar is pure SEO.

The reactors showing up on search results is partly them working the algorithm by titling or tagging their videos a certain way to show up in the results, and partly Google shoving them there because they're popular according to the site's rules of engagement (lots of likes and comments to push them to the front). Not sure how specific your search is, but what you're saying checks out.

Right now I searched "Dorohedoro" with nothing else other than the title and the first result aside from a bunch of merch was some video titled "Dorohedoro is WAY better than you think". It doesn't have nearly as many views (96K) as the actual Opening to the anime itself (~750K), the Official Trailer (1.5M), or the full opening song (1.3M), and I don't even watch the show, so there's no reason YouTube should have put someone's opinion of it over the opening. Then I searched for "Beastars" and got "What the HELL is Beastars?" 1M views. Decent. But the Japanese TV OP is 17M views so that should have been at the top considering the query didn't specify looking for an opinion or explanation on it. For the extra lols, searching for "Samurai Jack season 5 episode 10" put The Normies episode reaction second only to the Ending of the show.

So if you're looking for fight scenes and songs and got a reaction video, check the tags if not the title. They probably tagged it with the terms people would use when looking for the original clip. Other than that, Google got you F'd up.

Basically what I said: SEO.

Though, there is a way to solve it. Either unsubscribe from that particular channel, or go into your watch history and remove the videos you don't want being recommended.

From what I know, I can't tell YouTube "do not recommend channel" if the channel appears in my search results.
I can only do so if it pops up randomly on the main page or "home".

It would take literally 45 minutes out of eldest child's life to watch the kids for me whilst I go to something that's actually very important.

But, of course, that would eat into valuable drinking time. I mean, she doesn't pay rent or lift a finger around the house, she's fed and clothed, she has a bed to sleep in etc...but to ask for a mere 45 minutes of her time is unbelievably selfish on my part.

My bad, clearly...:rolleyes::grumpy:

Yes, you can. I just did. I subscribed to a woman who disguised herself as a man. (eww.) So, once she made a video about "White Privilege," I went like... "I'm out. She confirmed she's a man, and shows her blatant White Privilege."

So, I unsubscribed, went through my watch history and deleted her videos from my watch history. I'm saying to YouTube: I don't want this type of video anymore.

This applies to the "home" tab, too. I don't see her videos in that area anymore. Even if I see it, I'll ignore it and YouTube will notice it.

Did you click on the text that says "do not recommend channel"?
From what I remember, that option only appears on the YouTube main page.
