Honestly, because DmC actually did make good enough bank in its lifetime, it's why Capcom is kinda confused on what to do at this point.
The very vocal, and still ongoing hatred for the latest game by a bunch of stubborn fans are telling them one thing, but the numbers are telling them something else. I really don't think they would be at a lost if they gave DmC another shot before going forward with another traditional game.
The only ones who would be mad are the narrow minded hateful fanboys that hate the fact that DmC exist in the first place and want nothing to do with it, and they can cry us a river for all we care.
A cool thing about liking both incarnations (and each one DOES give LONGTIME fans like myself reasons to enjoy both fanboys, shocking I know) is that we'll be cool with either one continuing. As long as it continues.
I kinda wish they'd approach this like they do with MegaMan and his many different incarnations. MegaMan has the original series, X, Battle Network etc. Why can't they do the same for Devil May Cry since they already have the foundation here? It would just mean more Devil May Cry.
While I'd like to seem some resolutions in characters like Nero, and better exploration of the world, I'd also like to see Dante on his way to becoming a seasoned, prestigious demon hunter and face off against a Demon King Vergil. Seriously, they had some badass stuff ready to explore at the end of DmC with a lot of unanswered questions that's just begging for a sequel. I wanna see more of that world and these versions of the characters too.
Plus Limbo. Just let me explore Limbo more. Even if DCM 5 were to come out, they'd have to really work on that level design because those samey looking Gothic castles will just practically be a step backwards after Limbo raised the bar in level design.
