Yet he's living in downtown going by DMC3. If so then for how long? Being in a tough nehborhood will have hardenered Dante a bit. Dante is also technically a mercenary. So he moves around more.

Nero remained at Fortuna. Until DMC5. Since that place fell apart (legit) he seems to have taken up to traveling with Nico.

Dante's probably reminded of himself when it comes to Nero. Whic raises the question. Why did Dante become a merc?
You should tag people when you quote them. I didn't get a notification for this post.

Dante's past isn't explored in the game so I decided to fill it in with this pitch.

The first pitch is him living in Fortuna after Eva died. The Order found him after that happened. They kept tabs on Sparda and Eva as he was on good terms with Sanctus's successor.

The first pitch was divided into two time periods. The first part was Dante around 17/18 dealing with Sanctus's scheme.

When Dante leaves, he's 18 and living on his own so he probably lives off odd jobs. Fortuna feels like an obscure third world country so people probably shrug when he sees he's from there. Or he would give a vague answer as my first pitch was him turning his back on how Sanctus raised him.

I don't know the answer the first light novel gives for why Dante becomes a mercenary. I haven't read it yet. My take would've been desperation as he had to adjust for living on his own. Plus I think it's something common to demon hunters in this world. So before he opens his shop in DMC3, he dabbled in odd jobs both legal and illegally.

This probably takes the place of Dante's "its been a year since we last met" line.

@V's patron they are pretty cool ideas, @Lain I wasn't but i am all for that killer nun thing with lady

As for how i would fully reinvent nero, well

Nero is as i said earlier found by dante and lady and vergil came across a fight with demons and nero's parents. The demons kill his mother, vergil comes in and kills them and steps close to nero who is wrapped up under the bed. Nero's dad lunges at vergil to get him away from his son and vergil kills him for it.

Time skip to DMC4, nero still has the arm, and the red queen but his attitude is different. He was told by the order that he was left there by a man in red and a woman, and that demons killed his family. With this knowledge nero throws himself into mastering all forms of combat that he can, and he learns to use all kinds of melee weaponry too. His personality i see him being a mix of tidus from ff10 and himself from 4 outside of the being a baby. He still has kyrie as a love interest and reason to fight, but he values humans more and hates demons more and he does not whinge and moan.

In 5 i would have vergil take the yamato from trish instead of nero, and he will not kill her once he sees her face as it shocks him. The rest of 5 with v etc and sparda sword stay the same, nero doesn't get hung up on being called names by dante and instead kicks ass and fights his own final boss to save kyrie and their child, this is what unlocks his demon form.

Dante and vergil double tko each other on the final hit, then wake up and accept they will always be equals and head off to take care of the tree with nero showing up at the end to try and talk em out of it and dante entrusting the human world to him same as before.

Nero will look to dante as his mentor in this story too, and vow if dante gets back from hell that he had better train him.

So are his parents half demons or did his powers come from the Order's experiments?

Nero doesn't seem the hateful type. What he will hate is himself for not having enough strength (he says as such himself). Kind of like with his dad, eh?

Virgil acts from desperation to be stronger. Dante acts from good intentions. Each of these know thier own mistakes, which is something that can be taught to Nero. In some ways Nero's learned from their flaws, yet Dante and Virgil had to leave to deal with the tree. Leaving Nero on his own again. It was a shock for the boy. He'd already been left on his own as a baby and now he's left again.

Imagine having your dad leave you twice. Virgil has no malice behind it though. Even leaves Nero that book. So I think Nero will be fine.

Considering Virgil said "Hold on to that until then" it sounds like Virgil fully intends to come back to Nero. It's kind of Virgil's way of making a promise.

Both, his dad is half demon, his mother is human and his bringer is the cause of experiments to harness demon power by agnus.
Said expriments being a result of Virgil's sword. Which was Nero's arm.

Which somehow can get Nero to regrow a limb. Maybe the power of "Focus and dedication" from that sword had some kind of effect there somehow. Lingering effects from having been with Nero for so long. He was with it for a long time after all.

When did Virgil lose yamato again? He still had it after falling in DMC3. I think it got left behind when Dante beat Virgil in DMC 1. But then how did it come to Nero?

@Taramafor u do realise my post is fiction right?

This thread is about what we would change about nero, my post you quoted is my rewrite and how i would handle it lol

In said change, nero does not get yamato to keep as dante takes it back and gives him a different devil arm. The experiments are nothing to do with yamato either, they are to do with demon dna.

I was responding to your comment that was part of DMC4. As in what you said actually happened with Agnus.

Anything I'd change with Nero will be from how he is "now". Not from "What if he was different". If we change Nero's past then it kind of defeats the point of changing his future.

It's a bit like how Star Wars got retconned because too many past things were changed. Fun to ponder on but can destroy lore.

For example, could Nero have fled like a coward in the truck? Yes, but then he wouldn't be the Nero he is now. A change like that completely changes the entire story of DMC.

Well i get all that, but the whole point of what if scenarios is to have fun and change the og story or character in full or partial or however you want.

If you want to change him from now then be my guest, but it seems like you keep quoting our fictional ideas like we are stating fact or retconning the lore or something which we are not. I can tell you are a big fan of his which is cool, but you don't need to defend him so much bud as this isn't an attack (y):giggle:

Just some idea spitballing.

like we are stating fact or retconning the lore or something which we are not.
If you change what Nero did in the past then it retcons the lore that comes after said change by default. Butterfly effect. Any change in the past affects everything that comes after. So not only are you changing something Nero did it also changes the actions that come after in regards to the lore. That means having to invent some more after. Otherwise there's no consequence for said change with Nero.

Ever played a game known as "Life is Strange"? It actually toys around with that concept. Imagine if time travel and changing the past happened in Devil May Cry somehow.

Sounds like a good idea. Do different things when replaying missions and get different outcomes. Would give missions more replay value. Capcom does do this with other games. Like Resident Evil 3 (original) and Dragons Dogma.

One situation I can think of changing with Nero is stopping Virgil ripping Nero's arm off. That would drastically change the story. Virgil wouldn't have becone Urizen then.

I am not a writer at capcom though, nor do i own it lol

This thread is hypothethical, it has no impact on the lore of any kind whatsoever.Due to that we can change the whole of dmc fictionally if we want as it is not in the canon universe. If it makes it easier for you then think of this as alternate universe nero where we can mold him how we want and main nero stays the same.

Could also make him an artificial demon like lucia, but a less perfected one hence the arm

Vergil/dante being the dna they used which they could take from all their battles in teminigru.

There are tonnes of possibliites.

I thought of him being someone DmC Dante knew at the orphanage. Dante could've betrayed him to get out early so years later, he wants to settle the score.

Eventually he and DmC Dante works things out and he gets his own adventures meeting Kyrie and figuring out who his birth family were.
