Don't Let the Fall of America be Your Fall
Meg, we talked about this; I don't get things very quickly.
Though I won't deny that Hollow Vergil is definitely like Hollow Ichigo.
I will always, always consider this reasoning plain stupid nostalgic fanboyism.basically people here wanted them to say
"its not like dmc4 and dmc3 so as a game its good but as a devil may cry game its bad yada yada yada"
actually bleach technically came BEFORE dmc -_-Yeah but Bleach isn't the only one to have a plot where the main hero tries to rescue his love interest with a sword and an angsty.
Also, Hollow Ichigo and Hollow Vergil both represent an manifestation of their own inner power not their inner self. Also, why is it called "Hollow" Vergil, has pale white skin, wears white (contrary to the real guy who are both wearing black Vergil/Ichigo), have black seclera with ring shaped iris's, make the main characters go through some trials, make them both fight it inside their own head/inside world, and upon defeating both return/merge to the user that grants them access to a new power.
Plus if anything Bleach has been "ripping off" DMC before DMC4 did it.
Living weapons that contains the souls of spirits/demons (Devil Arms=Zanpuktos)
Both main characters lost their mothers to an attack by said supernatural beings and has a moment where they get their revenge.
Only difference DMC came first.
Also, Kamiya did say that he got some influence from this manga called "Cobra" so you're right about that.

A good game is good, no matter it's title.
WIll people please stop calling DMC a ripoff of various things?.
I think the point they tried to make was that DmC is not technically a DMC game (which is why it's called DmC: Devil May Cry... duh). So as a game it's good, but it has very little to do with DMC, and people don't consider it a Devil May Cry game because of it. Which is understandable, I guess.
The most fun I had with 4 was when I threw it in a fire to roast marshmallows. I had some ooey gooey delicious smores. Nom nom nom.
Still I didn't think it took a different look, environment, and different developers to tell whats DMC and whats not. By that logic, DMC3 shouldn't be called DMC since the original creator didn't make that.
If all it takes is outer appearance, then that's very unfair.
Well, I haven't played DmC, but from watching the entire playthrough, I can tell that the story is different from the original DMC (Dante and Vergil being half angel and half demon etc), the whole universe or setting has been altered, different original characters (Mundus, Dante and so on), etc etc. I can understand why it isn't considered Devil May Cry by so many people. Honestly, I think it should have a different name (DmC: Devil May Cry still implies to me that it's a Devil May Cry game). It's hardly based solely on outward appearance.

I know no one here likes to hear the word "edgy" or "reality" but that's just what I see in the guy. This coming from a fanfic writer who's written a lot of fanfics with new Dante can easily see old Dante in there..
okay, so let me take these few inserts you say.
You watched the game but didn't really play it from beginning to end to get a better feel of it. And sure Dante and Vergil are noe demon angel hybrids, but that still seems like a minor issue to suddenly say it doesn't belong in the DMC page. The whole universe is suppose to be different. Thus the name reboot, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve the DMC name. I mean if you played DMC1 for hours and then go to DMC4, you'd see a big difference in environment. (Except the forest areas) since DMC4's castles are more European, and DMC1's hail more to the old British Gothic age. And different doesn't mean they don't deserve the name. New Dante is still like the old Dantes but just more edgy and reality based. I know no one here likes to hear the word "edgy" or "reality" but that's just what I see in the guy. This coming from a fanfic writer who's written a lot of fanfics with new Dante can easily see old Dante in there..
I don't agree. I think that if you change the setting, better yet, the whole universe as well as the characters and vibe, then you can't slap a Devil May Cry sticker on there. If it were a spin-off, maybe. That's the whole idea of spin-offs.
Actually you can, because if it has all the moves of DMC, have the names the same as DMC, the same Hack n' Slash concept as DMC, then yes, DmC can be called DMC because it is DMC.
You know? Just like any budget brand of coke or Pepsi is no Coca-Cola. It's cola (a hack and slash) but that's it.
Even so it's still cola and if you pour it in a styrophone cup and give it to someone, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I think it's weird to reboot a series at all, only to give it the same name as before. I mean, if you're going to drastically change things, you might as well do it right; change everything. Use your imagination and create a new, original game instead of riding on the success of previous games. The milking's already gone too far. I'd say you shouldn't reboot a series at all after four iterations. At that point, people have come to expect a certain product: something that's become part of their lives. To change that is like replacing your sibling with someone similar but not really. It's just not right, and we can't all adapt to what we don't like.
Again, by that logic, DMC4 shouldn't be called DMC either since there's to much difference from DMC1 and DMC3.
I'm still going to buy DmC, but not at the full asking price. I don't expect to actually like it since I hated the demo. I also hate DmC's style and atmosphere. I wish that weren't the case, but it is. This means that I will not have a Devil May Cry to look forward to, and that's harsh, just taking away something when it's come to be loved. But there'll be other games to look forward to... just no hack and slash games any time soon, I think (aside from MGR).
no Killer is Dead? That game looks good.
It's not saying it makes it bad but does it really make it all that special? That's when you should stop giving the original series more credit than it deserves just because you feel the need to bash DmC on such a consistent basis. If people fail to level their complaints with the reboot to the original series which was far from perfect and suffered from it's fair share of stupidity and bs then why wouldn't people write off this fanbase and being full of a bunch of stubborn fanboys who for over 2 years have been crying like little children who didn't get their way? It's been going on too long for also people to think otherwise and that petition to the White House didn't help. Good game people.WIll people please stop calling DMC a ripoff of various things? If it were a ripoff, it would be like 90 percent the same. I'm sure DMC took inspiration from all kinds of sources, but why is that a problem? Most likely your example, the movie Blade, was in turn derived from something else.
And so, everything is ripped off from everything. Which sort of means it's not a ripoff of anything. Stealing the idea for the lightbulb from someone is ripping off. Copying something and only changing very minor things is ripping off. Don't act like everything should be original, because that's damn near impossible. Sometimes people don't even realize they're inspired by anything. It's our experiences that shape what we create, and you all know that very well.
If you fail to see how many homages and tributes it makes to it's predecessors then it makes me wonder whether or not you've ever played Devil May Cry. The characters are all honestly virtually the same because he's the thing, they weren't all that to begin with. Dante is about as shallow and generic as they come so you don't need much to rebirth the character where it matters. I think the fans interpretations cloud the reality of them. Hell, my head canon of Dante is more entertaining than the actual character because Capcom just totally sucks at story telling and character development. You can't tell the difference between a Pepsi and a Coke? I pity you
How is DMC4 set in a totally different universe, have completely different characters and so on? I get your point, I know each DMC game is like a reboot of the last, in a sense, but it's still got the same elements, the same backdrop and characters (albeit in very slightly altered forms sometimes) while DmC has fairly drastically altered those elements.
DmC is not DMC simply because it features Dante and Vergil (or rather, characters that look similar to them and bear the same name) Nor is DmC the same as DMC because it has some of the same combos. If that's your definition of a game, that's really sad. You're saying DmC is DMC because it's a hack and slash game. Flawed logic there.
If anything, I'd call DmC a spin-off, not a reboot. I'd also give it a name that included a different word from just Devil May Cry: Devil May Cry. It's almost like DmC is pretending to be Devil May Cry x 2.
Also, I think you mean styrofoam, not styrophone, lol.
Killer is Dead... saw an early video on Youtube, I think. Watched the official trailer a little while ago, and it looks a bit off-putting, but it could be decent.
