Thoughts on Vergil after seeing VD.

This NT Vergil is borderline psychotic....probably is. His warped view of what happened in his life, his sudden hatred of his mother and telling her he killed Dante just to tear her apart emotionally. He could have killed her, but he did much worse by showing her how twisted he was and leaving her with the knowledge he killed Dante (well fake Dante) and walks away knowing she is trapped in hellish torture.
He's scary in a way the DMC3 Vergil wasn't. The part in dowfall when Vergil says something like 'don't worry mother. You're nightmares are nearly over'. It was chilling the way he said it, totally devoid of emotion. I thought he would kill her.
In a way it reminded me of The Shining film/ novel. The Dad starts off seeming normal-ish, but he changes and then goes totally murdering nuts. I was almost expecting when Vergil met his mother for him to say 'here's Vergil' with a creepy smile. >_<:P
Yeah and that's what I like about the new Vergil the other one was not so bad, still evil for kinda destroying that city by unleashing hell but ignoring that he was not entirely bad and nonredeemable. This one is extremely twisted and now obviously psychotic and that is a departure from the old one but had they not made him unique NT would just get bitched at for not even trying to be original or unique.

Vergil's attacks appear to be more ground-based in nature, you won't be performing endlessly long aerial-combos with Vergil.
He doesn't have a single move that sends the enemy flying higher up in the air after performing a successful launch.

That's true. The only thing worth jump canceling is Killer Bee. He obviously doesn't have that awesome DMC3 Aerial Rave which was the most awesome thing ever, concerning combat mechanics. Though, i that combo mad video, the player is JC-ing AR which looks NOTHING like the old one. Shame. But the gameplay and damage are more impressive than Dante's, just like in DMC3, that's cool.

And for the last time, he's not based on Tameem. I'm so sick of people saying that. It's seriously starting to annoy me.

Not intentional on Tameem's part, but the art guys at NT have commented how they would look for inspiration in design from others in the office, and the Promo video Dante looked a lot like a younger Tameem.

Scoring points without going full doppelganger-mode with swirling blades everywhere is damn near impossible.
But once you get loads of DT upgrades and some DT stars you're unstoppable.
I doubt even the 50% penalty will be enough to stop Super Vergil

I have no clue how you managed to get Kurt Kobain out of that.
More or less, DmC Dante is DMC3 Dante whether you disapprove of that or not.
That's a baseless opinion but I was simply saying that having long hair and looking like the original Dante doesn't make you emo. If anything, long hair has always been the symbol of the rocker and Dante reaffirmed that.

DmC Donte is a d1ck in the mean spirited kind of way and NOTHING like old Dante.

You're honestly going to say the "Let's rock!" carefree heavy metal singing guy who always jokes around even when his hang out is being destroyed, is the same as the "F*ck you" self obsessed "I've got the bigger d1ck" douche bag? You're stretching a subject that's obviously turning more disingenuous by the second.

"The original concepts that came back for Dante were actually extremely close to the Dante everyone knows and loves," Svensson explained. "The feedback that came back from [Keiji] Inafune and [Hideaki] Itsuno was, 'No guys, this needs to be completely different, we need you to go much further and be much more creative.'"

"And literally dozens of potential iterations later became what we as a team felt comfortable and actually happy with."

Svensson later admitted Capcom knew there would be fan backlash for the design change but said it was all part of the plan.

"I will argue that any changes will bring about a knee-jerk reaction from fans," he said. "We know that; we knew that going into it. To be fair, I think some of the strategy here was to create that discussion and dialogue, and I think it drastically raises the visibility of the title versus if we had just done another Dante."

Opinion ≠ Fact.

If you want to make a claim then talk about some actual objective values and make a valid point.

Um, 1. Vergil was the one who made that d!ck joke

2. This Dante still makes one liners and jokes and still has a laid back attitude

3. DMC3 Dante was just as self-absorbed at the beginning as DmC Dante, even admitting to Lady "at first I didn't care, but you gave me a reason to." which is echoed by DmC Dante's "This world's under my protection."

4. As you said yourself, opinion doesn't equal fact. You seem to obsess over DmC's Dante's behavior at the beginning, while ignoring his character development, while only focusing on one aspect of DMC3 Dante's personality.

That enough of a point for you?

#1. Agreed.
You're right about this one. My memory was foggy about that since I never saw his mouth moving. It still proves not only how polar opposite Dante is, but Vergil is as well, in comparison to his original counterpart. This also shows how shallow the dialog is when they're basically arguing about retarded sh1t like children.

#2. You mean like these one liners?
"F*cking demons." .. "Get your filthy hands off my f*cking truck!" and Slapping a soda out of a fat civilian guys hands and saying "It'll kill ya." Very clever/douchey... Oh and can't forget the good old "F*ck you!".

#3. DmC Donte's declaration at the very end of the game hardly makes up for his entire attitude throughout.
(Quotes @0:40 seconds. Embedding won't work for this video.)
DmC Donte threatened Kat when he first met her. He's little bitch. Donte: "And if I pull the trigger?" Kat: "I'll die.." *continues to aim at a unarmed girl* "I don't need your help." Seriously a polar opposite douche attitude.

When Dante met lady he never once threatened her and instead tried to protect her in a very light hearted manner. He worries about her because she is human and even listens to her when she bitches about her father, obviously caring deeply about her situation. He's all around very lenient towards women in the game, even going as far as to spare demon women.

(Like he did with Nevan)

You're also misinterpreting that quote from dmc3 Dante to Lady.
Obviously he cares or he wouldn't have been helping her in the first place. He even explains WHY he cares, long before that remark. The reason for why he cares so much is in this video. "This is my family matter too."

(Took me forever to find most of these vids btw.)

#4. Facts are verifiable and can be proven through logical points.

I use evidence to support my claims, thus I'm not using baseless opinions. I've used examples of DmC Donte's behavior throughout the entire game. If you have a counter example, feel free to point one out. So far you haven't really given me many points besides correcting me on the Vergil mistake. All you've done so far is question my own points without giving any examples. I hope you are satisfied with my rebuttal.

And why would Vergil say he's better looking? THEY'RE IDENTICAL TWINS!!!

I would imagine a better written conversation going somewhere along the lines of, V: "I'm smarter." D: "That may be, but I've got the bigger sword." because that sounds like something Dante would say, rather than Vergil who is much nobler than that.

Ok

8:16 here:
. "When the people you trust most turn out to be...demon scum, you're opened up to all kinds of evil in the world."

Dante essentially explaining why he doesn't trust anyone.

Dante showing Kat a more caring side. He only acts like a dick to her for the first couple of missions, and only to Vergil once.

"Poor bastards." Dante about the corrupted souls in the Tower

3. I meant "That just seemed to drag on forever. Church." "Missed." "Time for a little Rebellion" "Game over" "You don't look a day over 5,000" " "Breaking news, Bob, you're fired!" "That, that was just a big, fat joke" "You know what your problem is? You're too clingy!" " I think you're all mixed up" "Well, Bob, now I see why your point of view is so upside down" "An ambush? You flocking bastards (kinda corny, but reminded me of "flock off, featherface" "You wanna dance, let's dance."
"Now there's a face only a mother could love."

And BTW, he only started helping Lady in that scene. Before, he just wanted to mess with his brother. He even admits that, only now does he see what his father saw in humans.

So basically you're saying it's okay that he acts like a complete douche bag, because he starts to care later and has had a traumatized past as if the original Dante didn't have one? lol

That doesn't change the fact that he's a douche bag. What about when he knocked the soda out of the fat guys hands? How about when Vergil blows away that demon lady and her baby? No. This isn't about warming up to someone. This is about their personality as a whole. You can excuse it all you want, but the original Dante wasn't a d1ck for no reason and that's just fact. You can argue all you want about Ninja Theory's interpretation being that of a Younger Donte, but this isn't a prequel.

This is a reboot and a pretty ****ty one at that.

He's just a bad character. He's unlikable in many situations and honestly, there is no amount of emotional leverage of Donte's sad vague past that's going to sway me. He has trust issues? Boo hoo. His personal excuses don't justify his overall character.

I also like how you choose to ignore all the bad one liners like the few average ones excuse his overall demeanor. Face it bro, the dialog is horrendous compared to old Dante. There's more bad than good by a long shot and in the end the essence of his character is solidified as a jerk off. They tried to make him edgy and only managed to make him a douche bag.

(Oh and btw, he tried to help Lady in the very first scene he met her, when he caught her by the leg. He blatantly says this in case you didn't watch the video.)

And I thought my jokes were bad.

You can excuse it all you want, but the original Dante wasn't a d1ck for no reason and that's just fact.

He's just a bad character.

I like how you sanctimoniously claim that your every statement is built on demonstrable fact, then immediately turn around and deliver your opinions as fact.

With respect I appreciate that you try to provide evidence to some of your points, but on the other hand the endless tired Reddit memes have to stop right now.

I'm on your side Chief, but you conduct yourself like a petulant teenager, go out of your way to antagonize people instead of win them over, and resort to childish cursing to emphasize your points.

...Are you Donte?

I'm starting to realize that trying to prove to you that he's a good character is a losing battle. You're completely dedicated to hating this character.

I could argue that showing his growth is proving he became a good character, or that he genuinely becomes a good person, but it's pointless.

Do me a favor and don't read Journey to the West, seeing as Son Wukong starts off as a jerk, and becomes a hero after journeying with Tripitakas.

And, like I repeatedly have stated, I think both DMC3 Dante and DmC Dante start off the same, as hedonistic jackasses that mature throughout the game. Hell in DMC3, You can actually see from all the beer bottles that he drinks more than DmC Dante! (I counted 12 bottles scattered everywhere in 3 to one bottle in DmC). DMC3 and DmC are about the Hero's journey, from a selfish young man to a hero, and both Dante's stepped up when it counts. DmC Dante may be foul mouthed, but he did end up becoming a hero.

I can name countless popular fiction like this

Berserk: Guts goes from violent, cruel, cold, and obsessed with his personal goals, which are often achieved at great cost or risk to others, to genuinely caring about the people around him, a compassionate leader, and the best hero the ****hole of a world he lives in has.

Green Lantern: Guy Gardner starts off as a brash, headstrong jackass, and becomes a confident hero.

Batman: Damien Wayne went from a sociopathic creepy child to a genuine hero worthy of the Robin name

Fantastic 4: Johnny Storm went from a showboating, immature man-child to a mature superhero and uncle

Inuyasha: people forget this but he starts off as a f*cking VILLIAN kept in control by the necklace, before becoming a noble and self sacrificing hero.

YuYu Hakusho: Yuskue starts off as a punk delinquent before becoming a hero to humans and demons alike

Cowboy Bebop: Spike Spiegal ( my favorite anime character) starts off as a lazy, snarky bastard before becoming, well, a space cowboy.

Get Backers: Ban Midou starts off as a selfish, sneaky, women groping, mean-spirited asshole, but becomes a noble fighter with an honorable code by the middle of the second arc.

Star Wars: Han Solo goes from not caring about the Resistance and only about money, to a deadpan snarking badass rebel.

Artemis Fowl: Goes from a cold, calculating criminal mastermind in the first book, to a hero of The People in the last book.

Supernatural: Dean Winchester starts the earlier seasons as a cocksure, self-righteous douchebag. By season 4, he was honestly trying to be a hero.

Final Fantasy: Cloud Strife and Squall Leonheart both start out as Anti-social, rude, emo d!cks but eventually become proper heroes.

King of Fighters: Compare Kyo from his introduction to now. Barely the same person

Avatar, the Last Air Bender: Zuko goes from a haughty, arrogant, sociopathic boy obsessed with honor, to a calm and relaxed team dad who leaves his family to save the world.

X-men: Gambit was amoral, narcissistic, and quite sarcastic, then became a brave trickster hero after being an X-men

all these characters went through a journey, JUST LIKE DANTE. If he's a bad character, so are they.

Guy maybe a hero, but he still a Jackass though...

true, but he's nicer than when he first started out.

He went from a jerkass to a jerk with a heart of gold

Cloud was never emo, he never once talked about his sadness, until Aerith died and even after that he used Aeriths death as a reason to keep on fighting (Since that's what emo means to most people) he just wanted to get his job done at the start and eventually warmed up to people and accepted them as equals/friends when he found out he's fighting for a much bigger cause. You're confusing FF7 Cloud with Advent Children Cloud.

Final Fantasy 7
"C'mon Cloud, say something!"
"...Something"
Advent Children
"Are my sins ever forgiven"

Big difference.

Could of used someone like Tidus or Hope...or AC Cloud.
Meh it doesn't matter, get Vincent a cellphone, I mean seriously. >:L
