Well Steve Rogers Was a Hydra Agent All Along

Because it completely contradicts everything that came before. We are talking about 75 years of character history down the toilet. It doesn't make sense for Cap to have been secreting working with Hydra all along considering the number of times he's stopped them. And it doesn't make sense for the writers to up and decide he's a Hydra agent now because there was nothing over the past 75 years that even so much as hinted about his true allegiance.

Exactly. Nonsense at its max. Hey, you know what would have been a good twist in the Bible? If Jesus was actually working with Satan all the time. Perfect sense, right? He and his father "dealt with him" a number of times after all.

@Meg

I get it.

Cap will probably be returned to his normal self soon enough anyway.

----

I'll trade you removing this story from canon completely in exchange for me inserting SMT Dante into official canon -- which means that technically, Nocturne would become the unofficial fifth entry that'll probably never even get made anyway (for now).

Sound fair?

No more evil Cap; from now on he's Mr. Clean, even if you don't take the deal.

If this big twist really does just get undone after a while then it really will be for nothing, other than shock value of course.

Amusingly (or sadly depending on your opinion) Dante was replaced in the "Chronicle Edition" with Raidou Kuzunoha.
Dante just can't catch a break.

I know, but that version was only released in Japan, wasn't it? If you buy the game on PSN, you'll still get the version with Dante, I think.

----

It wasn't really Atlus' fault, either. Too much time had passed, so they lost the rights to keep using Dante in the Chronicle Edition.

Besides, with all this talk about parallel universes, I'd like to think both happened at the same "Flashpoint" in time.

----

Well, whether they end up changing the CapAm story or not will be up to marvel, really. I'll just wait and see.

----

Yeah, it looks like it was mind control after all. How disappointing.

----

My own theory was that, there was a Marvel version of a Flashpoint Paradox and someone went back in time and changed everything, making this whole ordeal temporarily canon.

However, since fans can't have both and want one over the other to satisfy their own headcanon, it's impossible to have this story take place in an alternate timeline or a different dimension (a dimension that had a life of its own and overtook the original dimension for this particular storyline).

Now the writers have to lie to us and say that it wasn't mind control, even though it obviously was.

----

I still consider false memories to be a form of mind control, whether becoming a villain as a result of said false memories is voluntary or not.

...And it turned out to be fake memories implanted by the Red Skull. Who would've thunk it.

Hey, hey. Remember when the writer said this storyline would put all of Cap's previous interactions with other heroes "in a new light"? ...Yeah.
I knew it was something like this. It really makes no sense any other way, and like they're really going to go through with the revelation of Captain America being the literal opposite of the things he stands for.

It's probs just gonna be an alternate timeline gimmick. Does anybody remember in the DC JSA comics when the 4th Reich systematically murdered almost the entirety of the DC cast and put the JLA into concentration camps? And the green lanterns fell from space and the atlantians all drowned? Yeah that was some good chum times.

I know marvels universe is different, but it's probably gonna be rectified somewhere down the line

Remember that time the writer said Steve Rogers "always has been and always will be a Hydra agent"? Lying to fans in order to fan the flames of controversy. Classic.

well, he was TECHNICALLY not lying. the cosmic cube girl korbik altered reality so steve was always a hydra agent.

Uh huh suuuuuuure.

There is a big difference between "he has always been and always will be a Hydra agent" and saying something more open ended like "yes we revealed Steve as a Hydra agent, but there are additional twists coming up so stay tuned."

It's really not uncommon. Comics and video games are rife with bad PR.

*Spoiler alert* (Incase it hasn't already been stated)
So it's the result of false memories, okay, I'm cool with that.
It let's them explore the "Evil Cap" angle, while not taking a dump on his entire history thus far.

Well its better then what they seemed to have been doing before. Still a pretty crap way to bring shock value, but whatever.
