Vergil should have less backlash

Agreed. I wouldn't mind if it were redesigned, but it should remain a Katana. I'd like to see Vergil acquiring it at some point in the game, rather than him just starting off with it.
it probably won't it's a katana is probably "too Japanese'y" for tameem

Well, there's the fact that he's a very honorable guy. If he's a backslider in DmC, that'll basically be a change towards the core of his character which is bad if NT wants to keep the "spirit" of his character. That, and his power- lust, which I think is okay to change since that made him a rather confusing character. Then there's his coldness, which is also something that I feel is okay to change since that also made him rather confusing.

I think that, if they kept his calculatory attitude and honorable nature like they did with Dante's cockiness and over- the- top style, they wouldn't have as much backlash as Dante initially got.

(By the way, as a side question, does anyone know why Itsuno decided to give Dante an over- the- top style of fighting? DMC 1 Dante's fighting style was pretty straightforward.)

I'd say he is more cold and indifferent than honorable.

I felt most of the backlash for DmC was because you couldn't tell it was Dante when you first saw the tgs10 trailer, so if they avoid that the backlash would be less.

To answer your side question, the over the top style fit DMC3 Dante showoff nature.

Well in DMC 1 that was his key characteristic (and he was alot more expressive too).

Well you couldn't really tell his emotions in DMC1 because he was wearing a mask the entire time. Plus it's not like Vergil sat down and talked with Dante. However some of the things he did were that of a normal being. For example, snapping his fingers to open the window, or when he kept pestering Dante to fight him during the first battle.

Nobody liked the fact that Vergil as Nelo Angelo mimicked Dante's appearance like "I Should've BE WHERE YOU ARE!"

Then after that, he battles Dante hand to hand as if he had Beowulf equipped.

On top of that Vergil's sword as Nelo Angelo looks alot like Dun Dun Dun RED QUEEN!

How can a something called "Ninja Theory" not be too Japanesey? LOL

I mean, they might come up with another type of weapon. But as far as sword go... what else is there besides what they have introduced? A rapier, maybe?

They might give it some demonic style like Dante's guns and sword, but a katana seems legit and western audiences should be familiar with what a katana is, at least.

Which is funny if you think about it.

That could be foreshadowing or a case of hilarious in hindsight.

That's why they are having a samurai pack huh?
It would be cool if Vergil used samurai/Ninja eastern style weaponry.

Funny thing is Enslaved, heavenly sword and Kung Fu chaos all have eastern influences.

Vergil wielding a scottish claymore or a bastard sword would be cool.

They might not know the name but they know what a Japanese sword looks like.

I feel that there might be backlash if certain character traits like dislike of guns and Vergil's monk like attitude to sex aren't carried over.

Granted the monk like attitude to sex is an assumption but fangirls take his monk-ness seriously.

In games there can be the antagonist that you hate and just really want to kill, then there are the ones that you would be happy to have the game end with them still alive. Vergil was one of the ones I would be happy to keep alive. It's the personality and fighting style that did that.

Now that being said, being a fan of Vergil this would be my reactions.
If they change looks, I probably won't like it as much as the original (Since that is the one that made me a fan after all) but I would overlook it. I'm sure they couldn't make it too bad. If they change fighting style, again, probably won't like it as much but will still accept. If they end up changing all these and personality too much, I'm just not going to consider him the same Vergil.

Who knows I may like new Vergil, he could be exactly the same, he might not even be in the game, only time will tell. What ever happens I can always go back and play DMC3 if I want to get a dose of the original.

Dante's the equivilant of a sterotypical street kid who lives on the darker side of life. Since that's the case, he has a mean to be able to talk down to the demons who torment him because he's grown up around demons. Demons can cuss too, so they probably cuss up a storm while tormenting him, so when the day came where he snaps and decides to kill em', that's when he starts to cuss at them back. Since then, this has been a niche in his personality and has been how he is now. Like how someone does something a certain way since you were young and finally you decide to do it too. Monkey see monkey do. Dante was a sponge. That's all I gotta say about that.

Now back to the Topic at hand.

I'm sorry, I had to post this just for the legs.

That, and, while I think the cussing may be immature, it's still more realistic, than, say, "IN THE END, WE ARE ALL SATISFIED."

Thing is, in order to make Vergil better than he was before and make him a true swordmaster...

You have to give him two to four swords. He has to be able to one up Dante's arsenal and Vergil with multiple swords is just a perfect balance to me.

I hope they don't give him a gun...

Vergil's gonna be armed with a surfboard since he sure as hell has a surfer dude hairstyle, assuming that the guy behind the mask is Vergil, that is.
