Something else to consider here. If this is Vergil holding Nero before DMC 3, then the line he delivers to Dante in 3 about needing more power to protect anyone, let alone himself would make a hell of a lot of sense. Because that 'anyone' he's talking about could be Nero.

I adore this pic. One of my favorite Pokemanz too.

I see nothing but respect for Vergil in this thread.

Edit: Actually, I see more than that. I see reverence towards him at every turn. A little too much, actually.

This doesn't change the fact that his right eye is still covered up in DT mode for some reason. He might not be half-blind, but I still see a scar or a mark of some kind leading from his eye to the left side of his face (under his left eye).

There are no marks of that type on Dante's DT face, making me wonder why they even designed Vergil that way to begin with (unless it was somehow significant).

Of course Vergil's going to have some sort of anime trope... this is DMC4 we're talking about here.

It has both eyes. One is simply hidden by the hood.

Lol You know I wonder...If Dante and Vergil were real people, how would they respond to some of these posts
Dunno 'bout others, but I'd be in pieces by now. I drew a chibi Vergil in a carrot costume, and I don't think that's even my worst offense to his almighty dark slayer reputation. XD

Rather, what is odd is how his physique changes from DMC4 to DMC2 happened. Maybe whatever happened in between that made him so grumpy also made him so depressed that he suffered from eating disorders? I dunno.

I was waiting on someone to point that out lol, seems he dropped whatever muscle he had from DMC4 by the time DMC2 happened which is a bit weird.

I like the depression theory about something absolutely terrible having happened to him after the events of DMC4, would explain his weight loss and his silent attitude.

But back to the Vergil thing, I can already see that some people are going to be moaning once Nero is revealed as Vergil's son, The connection is DEFINITELY there, I could care less either way whether he be son or not so long as the apparent connection these two have is fleshed out.

But it does look like he is holding something under that clock, a baby seems like the more likely option, and if you ask me a baby Nero would be a more viable theory than just some random baby.

Not sure if you're an artist at all or anything, but you tend to get an eye for how cloth falls over a body, and can usually figure out a physique fairly accurately, and that's what I and some other people seem to be seeing. So either there's a baby under that cloak, or Vergil's got himself some baby head-sized biceps.

I've got a degree in visual design, and I am a freelance 3D artist (mostly for games), so I actually do know a great deal about this kind of thing. To be honest, the area where the cloak overlaps near Vergil's neck is a bit poorly done. That's simply not how cloth looks when it's bunched up to any considerable degree, but it likely has something to do with how they're planning to animate it (no need to mesh a bunched up area if the cloth needs to look fairly loose when it's thrown off, for example).

Also, as an artist, I do question the incredibly low contrast in the scene on the whole. I think what they're trying to do is undersell it a bit for the grand reveal, but altogether the color composition is lacking compared to what we've seen in the original game. It's just a tiny teaser, though, and I don't have the whole picture so I'm not too worried about it. I'm sure they'll pick up the slack when a full trailer is released, but I will admit that it pumped up my anticipation. Perhaps it's a good thing, since Vergil is an understated character until he needs to take action, so you could really argue for it either way.

Okay here's what i think. The possibility that Vergil's carrying baby Nero, I do like the idea, but I think I'd prefer if it was set some time after DMC4, like I said build up for DMC5. Also it looks like it has both eyes to me

No to him carrying a baby!!! it's pretty obvious he's just holding the cloak to keep himself warm and it does'nt look like he has Yamato(there appears to be no sword by his side and he's clearly not carrying it either)I don't know what to think of this really, maybe he has his own small campaigne which takes place after the events of DMC4 in which he is trying to get his sword back, highly unlikely I know but it's just a wild guess :D

Maybe he's stored Yamato in a pocket dimension? Kinda like DmC Dante can do for his weapons and, if Dante having any of the weapons he acquires throughout the games is canon, the classic Dante as well. (We saw Vergil summon Beowulf in DMC3)

While the idea of Vergil's story being set after DMC4 is really intriguing I find it to be just as much unlikely to actually happen. I just don't see Capcom telling a sequel story (specially the return of Vergil, whose quite a fan favorite character) in a new version of a 7 years old game. Specially when you consider that the game won't have a full price tag and even then the chances of it selling very good isn't that high.

I think what Capcom wants/needs to do is to capture the attention of fans by providing an updated version of the game and giving them little bits and pieces of Vergil's history along the way. Making fans ready for the full return of Vergil in the inevitable DMC5.

I would agree that the Special Edition would work better if it's set before DMC 4. However, if we're to take it that it takes place before DMC 3, then Vergil would of still (died, been defeated, whatever) in DMC 1. So there's no telling if he is making a complete return.

anybody want to conclude any speculations shown up here? just draw out the most mentioned and possible ones

I always wanted to get into 3D computer models for videogames and I'm amazed at what people can do with Rhino, Maya and other programs that render, textures, skin tones and what I've seen from Naughty Dog and what they're doing right now with Uncharted 4 just blows my mind. And I looked at a tech demo of how they've build the world of Uncharted 4 and the techniques they used to bring the world to life is astonishing! And you're right about the Special Edition being an early development, and they're just retouching and finishing up before they launch the game during this summer, so it's understandable that the clothes look brighter instead of what Vergil's clothes looked like on this photo...And as you said it takes time to render clothing properly and animating it is just as tricky, but it's going to be worth the wait.

And I believe that Vergil will look like this when the game comes out, and it will get there.

Out of all what I'm hoping to see in the end result is seeing Vergil's Devil Trigger and his true DarkSlayer fighting style in action, because it's been horrible seeing Dante trying to imitate his brother in vanilla DMC4 such as his body posture just doesn't look at all properly proportionate to how Vergil strikes with Yamato...and as I posted before I really miss using the summoned swords properly, and I hope we see something similar to Gilgamesh gauntlets and greaves but with an added kick...but above all else!? I just want to be able to express Vergil's creativity in a manner that shows respect to him.
