Dragon Ball (Original) First Opening. You see the raging solar flares of the sun as the title card gathers on screen, then Son Goku rises from the bottom of the screen. That right their tells ya that this is a magical, fantastic adventure staring the Monkey King. Then their is the shot of Roshi on top of Turtle that 180's across the screen. I just love that shot!
Finally their is the shot of Bulma, Yamucha, Oolong, and Pu'er running away from some giant monkey who's face is covered by falling debris. (Cough Great Ape Goku, cough) That shot screams "Holy crap what is that? Could that be Goku or perhaps some great evil? I must know!" That my friends is how you capture a audience.

Attack on Titan's First Opening. Oh God, the various jump cuts, the pumping music, the naked giants! Watching the scouts fly about as they prepare to slash the neck of that Titan is just magical when backed by the First Opening's music. The First Opening is pure sex plain and disturbingly simple.

Oh geeze... aside from DMC anime, the only other anime intros I ever really loved were Gintama.
And I mean the opening and ending of just about every episode.
Like OMG they're all different and sooo Gintama.:inlove::inlove::inlove:

Many awesome answers here :)
Everyone talks about the first Death Note opening, which I don't really hold in high regard. I think the second is much better:

It is like taking LSD and having hallucinations...... without LSD.

I watched Steins;Gate in one day, after wacthed the first episode. I'm agree with them that say that this opening is ONE OF THE BEST EVER DONE.
The second anime (MOB PSYCHO) : now, i believe that competes with Death note's opening of up.

In italian , there is an urban expression "Mi sto gasando" (I'm gassing) or "Sono gasato" (I'm gassed) where used the verb 'gassing' not only to indicate a type of water or any beverage, but also to indicate a sensation of fervor, power and great energy in himself. This is what i fell when i heard first opening.
When i heard the second, i dont say that is bad or worse, but it can't compare with the first. In fact, it sounds like the classic song of a victory march.

An OP from this year that has really surprised me has to be "ACCA". Just so stylish and awesome.

"Joker Game" also really caught my interest. Very funky for an otherwise ground spy drama.

And finally, even though I didn't like the anime adaptation of "ERASED" I loved it's OP.

Naruto Shippuden OP 10 because of it's absurdity:

Narutaru OP because of how f-cking misleading it is:

Log Horizon 2 OP because DATABASE! DATABASE!:

Eden of the East OP because of Oasis and visual porn (god, I have to rewatch this show):

Darker than Black OP 2 because badass Hei fighting other badass Hei(s):

And of course, some of them were already mentioned (Death Note, Future Diary, et cetera) so I won't even bother.

E: Also, how the **** could I forget - The Tatami Galaxy OP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyYCYd2wHY4

it's hard to find someone who has watched DGM these days.
I've watched about 100 episodes and stopped (because there weren't any more on the page I was watching them on, I think). Then recently, after a few years, I found out that the whole anime has, like, 103 episodes...

Yeah, and they aired a new season last year with 13 episodes. I read the whole manga and I'm waiting for April/May's chapter so.

It's time to share some my favourite anime openin:
1) One Piece opening 15

2)Trigun, because this thread needs it.

3)Tokyo ghoul ( also if there is a spoiler of finale , maybe wanted )

4) and 5) I can't share video openings because I want to avoid possibly bans. Anyway they are highschool DxD and Prison School

6)Kiseiju. I've seen it some months ago. Finished in two days all anime.

Okay, so with the current expansion of my anime tastes, it just dawned upon me that not only does this thread still exist, butthere's a few criminal omissions I made in my original post. Most of the picks I originally posted still stands, but...it would be characteristically dishonest and haunt me forever if I didn't mention these three:

Yes, I realize I already mentioned this one, but I need to make a clear distinction in order to empathize just how much better the Japanese opening is. Why? Because it sums up the situation between Macross, and its bastardized, renamed localization (which I only just recently found out about) Robotech. The tone, the music, the style, it's drastically different in its original form...singing more about the fanciful and endearing journey of youth, one of the many things missing from the Robotech version of the series, which I strongly suggest everyone avoid. It's a far better intro, from a far better version of the show, and I've edited out my previous, misinformed input on Robotech from my original post.

I don't really have to elaborate what makes this intro so great. You're watching it yourself, right? It's the dankest anime intro in human history. Even the characters sing along with the lyrics....and with enough watches, you'll find yourself doing the same. It's inevitable: I was doing it subconsciously and unwillingly around the third episode of the series. It's absolutely contagious.

(Skip to 0:41 to bypass that exposition in the beginning) How iconic and famous is this song? It's been covered and sung by dozens of famous artists in Japan: male, female, trance, rock...it's one of THE most memorable openings in anime history, and concentrates the epic, 80's, sweaty visage of incomprehensible manliness that is Fist of the North Star. And somehow, this is a love song.

Because back then, love songs in anime weren't sappy drivel about whining after your senpai. They were hard-rock ballads about obliterating hordes of enemies, just to get to your true love. It just doesn't get any more awesome or classic than this.

EDIT: If you really want to drown in the 80's, here's the live version.
