There not really ugly. DmC is more "This is what we humans really look like under all the make up."
They're natural. And sometimes natural can be ugly.
I highly doubt Lilith is supposed to be good looking, though. My take on her is she's one of these types of girls who are just rotten to the core, who think they're absolutely gorgeous when they're the exact opposite.

That is anime......its not supposed to be realistic in terms of visuals and accuracy....unless we're talking about Seinens.
No Asian is ever naturally blonde with blue eyes, red heads, greens eyes, pink hair.
I've only known Death Note and Bakuman (oddly made by the same people) to get the accurate Japanese features.
Western animation tends to be realistic with the stereotype features but sometimes go to overboard with the stereotypical features that it almost becomes racist or looks offensive.....Dr.Seuss....though not a cartoon is an example of what I'm talking about.
