Yeah, if it could fit well into the control scheme, it would certainly be nice. It obviously served a much more important role in the previous games, but there were some times playing on DMD where I felt a taunt really would have been perfect. Still, I'm hardly disappointed by it.

... You know all this talk about Taunts has got me thinking.

I remember a time when I accidentally triggered Big Slick; you know the move with Aquilla which launches Dante into the air with an enemy.

Anyway at that moment Dante said: "BADASS".

Have to tell you I felt pretty badass using Big Slick. So why not have the Taunts work like that. Instead of having a button to press them, why not have the Taunts activate automatically after you use a cool set of moves. After you meet a hidden set of parameters Dante's voice over automatically Taunts the enemy with something like:

"Flock off feather face".

This saves Ninja Theory the time for programming in different Taunt motions for Dante, and the voice over gives us a bit more fun with the combat.

Personally I think that would work, if you guys like the idea, then hopefully Gregaman can take it forward and they can put it in the final release very quickly.

Even Vergil can have something like "You are not worth as my opponent". I think that would be really cool.

It's a good middle-way to go, but for me, the coolness that derives from taunts does not revolve around lines and voice that much. Rather, it revolves around the animations themselves and how I can fit them properly and creatively into the fight to create cool looking situations in combat. Especially with finishers.
So I'd rather have taunts the classic way, as far as I'm concerned, where I'm in total control on when to trigger the animation.

I agree with what you said, and if DmC 2 ever comes along I want them to do it that way too. However I don't expect them to do Taunts for DmC DE, so I thought my solution would work for this game.

If DmC is successful and continues I want to see Taunts return like you said.

I guess i should say that i'm highly excited about DmC definitive Edition first of all.

ahem..

Scripted taunts would be the best thing in a DmC next to the traversal. Before a fight starts in DmC and you hear the splatters of enemies coming out of the walls, a scripted taunt would be cool to fit whatever Dante is saying since he usually says something before a fight anyways. Also at the end of a fight with the style meter at an S or above. Also like Two Across pointed out in scripted taunts, some taunts should have conditions to be met to get a special taunt.

Honestly i just like talking trash to enemies since i usually talk trash anyways to the tv screen. Nothing more nothing less. And in the past it was possible so why not now.

Is anyone excited about the new lock-on feature? I feel like it looks just as glitchy as miss timed JC's

Well, I would love taunts we could trigger ourselves for the next game (hopefully), but for now I'm enjoying the things Dante says himself.

For instance, in one of the first Bob Barbas missions he says "slam dunk" after you punch an enemy to the ground. Which, by the way, is something Nero also says.

You guys are talking this and that about taunts. I want the announcer to say DEVIL TRIGGER! When you're low on health and the odds look slim.

For taunts, I'd like Dante to throw air punches, brush his coat back onto his shoulder, neck crack/stretch, and after you destroy every opponent with a triple S rank....he throws his sword sky high into the air, folds his arms over his chest, snickers, and the sword reappears on his back (angel symbol). "Too easy." Revealing that he can summon Rebellion at any time, no matter where it is.

I'd also love for ability confirmation taunts. Taunts with DevilArms. Of course, this one is a long shot, but I'd like it if Dante could take off his coat and toss it aside saying "Showtime." The awesome part would be rolling into the coat to put it back on and also....

Nah, I'm not excited for lock-on. DmC vanilla's lock on was nearly perfect for me. I point the left stick to the enemy I want, and I always hit my target. It never missed. Then if I wanted to switch targets instinanoeusly I have to move the left-stick. Effortless and intuitive. It was a brilliant lock-on.

The hard-lock DmC DE actually seems less dynamic and less fluid by comparasion. You can't switch enemies without pressing L3. Then the reticle automatically switches to another enemy. Its the same as the lock-on from previous DMC games; its automatic. Its not intuitive.

The lock-on reticle is for people who complained about DmC having automatic lock-0n, yet previous DMC games all had automatic lock-on. Lets see if those people who didn't actually play DmC vanilla actually come and play DmC this time. They probably won't because they were just looking at a reason to degrade DmC.

This is why I keep saying that the fans will never be satisfied with the new series.

Even if Capcom makes DmC2 more like Classic DMC, they'll just say something completely inane like, "Keep DmC as far away from DMC as possible."

You can't say that you "want improvement," and then turn around and say something like that.

Well those fans might get their sequel with improvements. DMC4 has sold 3 mil copies according to Capcom. So if DMC4SE is successful as well, Capcom will probably do DMC5.

If DmC sells well it could change everything. Only a few weeks now, those review scores will be important.

This reminds me of that Nerdcubed video where he plays Dante in PlayStation All-Stars. Dante keeps brushing his coat after a win so he turned this into a little 'dusty' joke.

But yeah, I would definitely have fun with taunts. They could've used some of his stuff in All-Stars, like the one where he kicks the air.

That's the thing. The narrative in All Stars is to talk smack and fight other people. The narrative in DmC was everything is just so messed up that if Dante would've said too much, you wouldn't think he actually cares about what's going on around him, the game really wanted us to get imprisoned in it's setting.

Think about taunting Vergil in that epic moment. The feeling it gave off before the fight had me actually thinking "serious" I can't lose. What would've worked for NT is after beating the game, taunts were unlocked for the campaign whilst Bloody Palace comes with taunts automatically.

Now with DmC finally being done, things aren't as bad as Mundus and Vergil. I'd appreciate NT allowing Dante to taunt up until a certain point in the campaign (Vergil's return). I'm actually certain this will happen in DmC2. The first battle you'd get into would be a "Dante's back" scenario. He's looking stylish, feeling stylish, and being stylish. He's been doing this for a while now, he's spiced things up in combat and now feels that no one is his equal. That's just my idea of DmC2's Dante.

I don't think I know of a fighting game that doesn't have a taunt button btw.

I actually welcome the hard lock, if it allows me to perform directional inputs the classic way. Having to move the stick forward twice felt REALLY awkward to me.
It was similar to Nero's Shuffle, where you had to move the stick backwards and then forward, and then attack. I didn't like that. But at least Nero actually does a backwards and forward movement in Shuffle, so at least I have a visual match to the controls.
Dante in DmC instead, does not move forward twice when I input Stinger for example, so I don't even have that match between controls and visual, which contributes to the sense of awkwardness.

The first release of the game has zero negative publication review scores, so sales did not equate to positive reviews here. It still sits at a 86/100 on Metacritic. DE should obviously score higher because of all the fixes and lower price point. We'll see.

And DMC4 has a lower score at 84/100. Generous actually, since it was a recycled mess.
