Me, too. Really decent first shooter from an RPG dev.

Goddamn. Thumbs up for having the courage to say that 'round these parts... :O
There. See? Anyone can find at least one positive thing about something they hate.
Yes. Yes, he does, actually.
I guess gameplay wise I would find new avenues to explore outside of combat.
I mentioned making it less linear and exploring more with an open world structure in a different thread so i would do that as a way to push the genre forward.
Team Ninja did a badass job making Metroid an acrobatic shooter again.
It was the shoddy writing done by Metroid's creator that gave it the somewhat iffy credibility.
Metroid Prime is amazing. Indeed, shame on you. However it is not too late. Do yourself a favor and play Metroid Prime. So that means the main problem with Other M is the story not the gameplay? I have played the good ol Metroid games on NES but i haven't played the Metroid Prime series which is said to be critically acclaimed. Yeah, shame on me.
Count many days/months/year from early 2011 (march) to MGR's release date 19 Feb 2013.In early 2011, Kojima met Platinum Games' Atsushi Inaba who asked him about the state of Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Kojima later requested them to work in the game.[59] This new version, titled Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, was first revealed via a trailer shown at the Spike Video Game Awards on December 10, 2011.[60][61]
SOURCEKS Any studio has its specialities, and things it excels at, and we only had a limited amount of time to create Revengeance for our specific deadline. We had to sacrifice a few things, but if we were to work with Kojima studios in the future, we’d like a little bit more time to show a little bit more of Platinum Games’ unique points that we excel at.
SOURCEPlatinum, and producer Atsushi Inaba, wound up giving the nod, in part because KojiPro agreed to be almost totally hands-off with the game. "In terms of gameplay, there generally weren't any [requests from KojiPro]," Korekado recalled. "We just said 'do what you like'. If they didn't think it was needed, we really didn't mind, even if they got rid of the ability to freely slice through enemies. Instead of that, we did carefully supervise things like the story, the cutscene direction, and the settings. That, and we gave a deadline. It was pretty rough schedule, to be honest, but we got it done with hardly any delays. For a title of this size, even if we had an archetype to work with, it was developed astonishingly quickly."

There was stuff in Other M that was just retarded and Samus was not portrayed in the right light being totally out of character.Other M's critics often cite the supposed dismantling of Samus' strong female persona, which rests solely on the writer of the story. However, I still disagree, considering this is one of the only games where Samus both talks and interacts heavily with other people for a narrative purpose. The main proponent to any argument is that suddenly Samus is taking orders for a man, and therefore suddenly needs a big strong man. This, however, disregards the fact that the man she is taking orders from is her former military superior, and one of the few people she actually respects. The commander really could have been either gender, and Samus still goes through the game mostly alone, and holding her own in pretty much all but one situation. Then people say that Samus is willing to let herself die unless she receives a man's orders, because they unceremoniously tried to marry the item upgrade system with a narrative concept of the commander authorizing the use of items. It unfortunately resulted in some very iffy points in the game.
Most complaints about the gameplay stem from the controller required. You use only the Wii Remote, which would be okay, but to got into the first-person perspective, you need to the remote at the screen. It also has an auto-aim feature to direct shots. It could have been much better by just letting someone use the Remote+Nunchuck for some nice aiming mechanics, and overall would make it less clunky to enter first-person, and generally to move, since analog movement is good for a 3D game like this.
The Metroid Prime series is great, but it's a different kind of Metroid. Retro did a fantastic job making fully fleshed-out 3D worlds for Samus to explore, but by being first-person, they lose a little bit of that acrobatic presentation the old games had. I missed the acrobatics, flippin' over bosses and stuff. In Other M, they added the Overshot, MoveSense, and they're cool finishing kills
Now we just need one to take place in Tokyo.open world game with a PK-style traversal system
Now we just need one to take place in Tokyo.
I've heard of it, I just didn't know it had that badass traversal system. And I forgot about the "jumping-from-car-to-car-mechanic". The difference in the "Arkham" combat is that there are actual combos assigned this time, and less rhythm-based... making it less "freeform" if you get my meaning. Not saying I don't like it, it's just fine for the SD franchise.Actually, did you play Sleeping Dogs? Game took place in Hong Kong, had a really good traversal system, too, and they wanted you to use cover as a weapon in your gunfights, since vaulting over it while aiming activated a slow-motion mechanic. You could also jump from vehicle to vehicle mid-drive. Normal combat was hand-to-hand, Arkham Asylum-style 360 punching and countering system.
