LoD Come Back!!!
I completely agree with chancey. im sorry but doesnt it occur to you people that the 4-5m was a hopeful prediction. meanin, we would like to hit this, but if we dont, we still profit. i mean come on people. Youre making it sound like capcom is tryingto put on a huge facade so that people will be more willing to buy. really? that is not how the market works. Capcom knows that. They would gain nothing from a blatant lie like that. They say sales are solid. They are solid. They say it was a success, it was a success. Even if what tocool says is true, that they keep changing the goal because they were failing to meet it (i highly doubt it, i think they were looking for a more realistic goal), why would they place that goal at just breaking even? That would be stupid, they would gain no profit. They would set it to at least set it to slightly above breaking even. And the game did reach a broader audience, the gameplay is much more polished than previous dmcs, and the story is kickass. It didnt reach as many people as previous games because again, the economy is down and most people buy games used. Not to mention the fact that there are people like you saying that the game sucks and is the worst thing to happen when you havent played it. But capcom cant say its you guys. They cant say that ignorant fans are the reason this game didnt sell. So they give other reasons and STILL you say they are retarded. Again, are you kidding me?

Please do not generalize people here, no one said anything about the game sucking and it being the worst thing to happen.

Also, how do you know people have not played it?

Come on dude, you say you like polite discussions, please do not resort to this kind of attitude.

throwing around the word "ignorant" and putting us all in a group of "you guys" isn't going to help the discussion, its only going to make it go down a bumpy road of flamewars.

Lets all refrain from this as much as possible.

Regarding the topic at hand, we do not know if it was a "hopeful prediction" from Capcom, we just do not know unless someone here actually works for Capcom. to Capcom that may have seen like a real goal that could be reached. They could have had the highest confidence that DmC would reach a much larger audience and thus projected those high sales.

Now they did wise up and lower it down to 2 mill after the huge backlash, but even after that they had to lower it yet again 2 more times, sorry but from a "business" standpoint I do not think that would set well with Capcom by having to keep lowering those sales projections.

But the thing is, the point of this reboot was to reach a larger audience and make a larger profit over the previous series, if not than what is the point of a reboot in the first place? The fact that its currently the lowest selling of ALL the previous entries is not going to set right for Capcom who is business first amongst everything.

Capcom is actually rethinking the stance on the future of Resident Evil because it failed to sell 7 million.

Even though it is just now pushing 5 million.

Huh. Despite the gripes about the recent RE games, they're still selling pretty well. This might bring them to a crossroads. Honestly I don't mind much about the current RE path of crazy excitement or if they go back to daunting horror, but 5 was a lot more fun for me than 6 was.

Yea, it did still sell pretty well, but it was out of a initial projection of 7 million I will remind you, and it is just now starting to push 5 million, which is great, but apparently a problem for capcom.

That is the whole reason why I think this recent news and DmC selling well below its projection will in the end not set right with Capcom.

Capcom does not earn money from units soldin stores so it doesn't really matter. They get their money once they ship games.

Actually it does matter.

Because if the retailers see this game is not profiting then they may cut back on buying more units to be shipped.

So while Capcom does make money regardless on the initial shipment, the future of getting paid more money depends on if the retailers sale the games that are shipped to them.

Yes I know that but people like to assume that companies don't earn money from shipped games.

It's kinda a well-known fact that this technology is not cheap, even more considering it was the same studio and team from Avatar, we just don't know exactly how much Capcom had expended with the entire game. But it's obvious that making a more "classic" CG and animation is much more cheaper than this.
.
No it is not a fact. It depends on the technique used for mocapping and how long they use the studio. Like I said, we need hard cold facts, not assumptions.

Obviously it does.

The retailers do have to buy the the shipment of games from them after all.

But still, even if the initial shipment is high in sales Capcom will no doubt hope for retailers to want to order more of their games, if it does not sell well than retailers have the option of either cutting back in the purchase or cutting them off period judging by how bad the game may flop.

So I can see why DmC not selling a lot (but still selling) would be a issue with Capcom.

BS. Maybe you joined the Devil May Cry fandom when HD Collection showed up I don't know but you could not even bring up that game at that time without people talking about how much they hated Nero and all the annoying design choices and especially how it was such a disappointment after coming off the great DMC 3 that revitalized the series after DMC 2 screwed up so bad.
I've been a fan of the series since 2006 I believe. I hung around the DMC4 Gamefaqs boards and the hate for DMC4 was very small and from the links I showed you the game was pretty well received. I can't BS reviews and user reviews, it is what it is. Don't get mad at me because I proved you wrong.

I'm still not sure if DmC's solid sales are relative to the forecast number or is it a general statement.

I'm still not completely sure either.

But judging by capcom's recent actions and statement about blaming it on "western outsourcing" and lowering it down to 1.15m i just can't help but lean toward it being in comparison to the forecast number.

I just hope they at least made a decent profit. The industry is rife with layoffs these days and if Capcom goes under, hoo boy.

I'm pretty confident that they made a decent profit.

The real worry here is that if Capcom will see that as enough to continue on.

I'm not worried.

I don't play MM, RE, SF, or UMvC3.

So... that leaves the DMC series. It probably won't continue, regardless of what happens.

I'd be very surprised if they did. Nordic games bought the Darksiders franchise, so I can still get my action/exploration fix there.

I honestly don't care anymore. Let the chips fall where they may.

You didn't. Before DmC showed up the overall consensus was that DMC 4 sucked and people talked about how much of a disappointment it was.Whatever though. Think what you want. Not a lot of people liked DMC 4. The ones who did were the minority. This sudden change of heart is weird. I don't think a better version of DMC 4 was released and I somehow missed it. I've been with this series since 2001 so I think would know.

As have I.

I still remember the GamePro review blurb.

"This is what Castlevania 64 should have been."

Wow... just wow. I can't remember ever being that angry at another gaming magazine during that time. I don't care what other people's opinions are of C64/Legacy of Darkness. I just thought there was no need to bring up that comparison.

And how suddenly a word from Capcom turned out to be "cold hard facts"? This whole topic was based in that piece of information. Plus, this kinda contradicts what they have said a little while ago, they've blamed "excessive outsorcing" for their bad situation in the market.

Most user reviews from 2008 disagrees with your statements, as Yugo had already mentioned:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/devil-may-cry-4/user-reviews
http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/devil-may-cry-4/user-reviews?sort-by=date&num_items=100
But at that time what i've seen from people were a mixed feeling about DMC4, most people were resistant to accept Nero, as you can see even in some reviews and disliked all the mess the story from that game made in the storyline. But i've seen just a few people saiying that the game was a total garbage.
