Basically, the burden of trying to please a certain group of fans, while trying to please another with a really old title is a pain in the ass. While making their own games, is much easier because they get to do what they please.

It seems that Platinum Games' titles are more like works of art for them. Bayonetta (the character) gets much praise AND criticism due to that being not only a female version of Dante but also a walking S&M fetish.

At the aftermath of DMC4, it sold many copies compared to the previous games (including DmC) but it totally confused the fanbase and most of the team who worked on it left. Hideaki Itsuno went on with Dragon's Dogma and guess what: that was the time that Capcom became creative again.

I can even say that DmC is a work of art for Ninja Theory. It's Capcom themselves who wanted it to happen.

but imagine if DMC was given to platinum...Imagine Vergil in MGR but instead of Metal Gear Rising...It would be Devil May Cry Rising...you know Vergil's Rising from before 3 onto the badass person we know today

We'd probably have a Gilver game instead, I wouldn't want them doing Capcom's depiction of Vergil.

Right. The only Vergil that exists in Kamiya's version was Nelo Angelo. DMC3 and 4 were handled by people like Kobayashi and Itsuno.

I can see a Tony Redgrave prequel working. I like the novel/Kamiya depictions better because at least they hung out although Dante wasn't aware of Gilver's identity.

I would yes ultimately. I mean, the gameplay aspect would certainly be a lot more polished. Story might've a little worst with most of it spent on characters mainly faffing about in the cutscenes or being purposely and annoyingly cryptic. But ultimately gameplay is what matters; I don't come back to Bayonetta because of it's "awesome" storyline.

It would be a different game. I'm not sure better because platinum Games is a big company and I've only played Bayonetta so it would have been different.

I'm playing MGR so i think they could have made a good one even if I'm not sure how they compare.

Main problem is story since platinum games aren't good stories or well told stories but that depends on how much you care about story in gaming.

They didn't prove that with Bayonetta?

Onto the question at hand.
I doubt they would be interested, since Hideki Kamiya sailed away from the Devil May Cry license a long time ago.
But... I have my suspicions that creators can't stay away from their ideas for long.

I doubt they could actually reboot the series, but they could make a damn good Devil May Cry 5.
Yes they did with bayonetta. But for some reason I have blind hatred towards that game. I just dont like it. So, being the childish bastard I am, I refuse to give bayonetta any credit.

Bayonetta was probably the best P* dished out speaking in terms of combat. Hate QTEs though. That being said, I don't like Bayonetta either. The hyper over-sexualization of the entire concept just makes me roll my eyes to an extent where Bayonetta literally is just stupid. I don't mind porn. I mean I actually have a few hentai movies but, Bayonetta tackles everything is a childish and tasteless manner that it's like this game is the developers wet dreams in video game form. Some people can try to argue that it's intentional for the sake of being ironic but here's the thing about that, just because you're trying to be ironically fetishistic, it doesn't mean someone out there isn't going to jerk off to it.

Besides, I don't find Bayonetta attractive at all. She just looks really weird. She's just Kamiya's wet dream and he made a game out of it.

Hah, you saw that Zero Punctuation review too.

**** the out of nowhere faded button timed QTE's though. And the occasional cheap shots after cutscenes.

nope, platinum games would have made a terrible DmC. dont get me wrong i think theyre great developers i loved bayonetta and i did enjoy how the new MGR;R (might even make a review of it later). but theyre all for the over the top maddening gaming. now in bayonetta this works because they are so over the top its goofy which makes everything work in the universe it establishes. if they did do DmC theyd either make a re-hash of bayonetta with a guy (which for some reason i think Dante lacks something to pull that off. *holds hands infront of chest as*. worse case sceario we get DMC4 EXTREME. as the main part i like in DMC games is how the characters react and develop in the story. hence why i wouldnt wan them to make a DMC game. let NT do their thing. i think theyre quite good at it.

So with the new MGR we can see just how capable they are of producing a worthwhile hack and slash game. So do u think Platinum games would have made a better choice over NT for the reboot?
Metal Gear? Bro, they are the people who made Bayonetta and in turn Resident Evil 4 and the original Devil May Cry, their skills to make action games was never in question.

The issue would've been story related, could P* deliver a story that has western appeal. Not by themselves. They shine in the action deparment, they are the gameplay kings, but as we know that isn't all. Their stories tend to be geared twards a Japanese audience and it shows. For the complete paquege they would've had to ask for outside help with the story.

As for your main question, whether they could've done a better dmc than nt? Yeah, definitly. Bayonetta is already the better of the two games so I have no douth P* could've done it better and been the creators of that cannon they have an insight that no one else does in to that universe.

exactly their over the top method of story telling works great in bayonetta but for a reboot of DmC i think it would have crashed. ie gameplay=godly but story = WTF

I am sorry what are we thinking of when we vote in this poll? Gameplay or story? or both of them? Because obviously Ninja theory failed on the gameplay department. They succeeded providing with a sufficient level of gameplay, but innovation wise - little has been improved upon since previous DMC games.

And story wise, it was ok. I liked the appeal of coherence which was a contrast to the chaos of DMC games.
But at same time i thought the story was pretty pretentious.

So i ask again, are we thinking of gameplay, story or both of them with this poll? Because if gameplay - PG is best choice overall. They are if not the best gameplay developers (considering Capcom has creative designers as well still, hint : DMC 3 and Dragon dogma), a very big top dog.

Now as for story, Platinum games stories aren't that great. They are contrast to Ninja theory, where Ninja theory makes stories that are "OMG The world is going down, serious business come on everyone!", and Platinum games are like "**** the world going down, let's all have a blast".

Both of them have clear flaws storywise.

Now considering PG has Hideki Kamiya i am pretty sure the story of DMC 5 would be nice. He said on twitter he had a major role in story of DMC 1, and i really liked DMC 1. It may not been a very good story, but it certainly was a decent one and caught my attention :) It certainly caught Ninja theory's attention because they reused same scene (Nelo angelous death, grab amulet and remember of Eva) in DmC.

Now you can say DMC 1 story was mediocre and all, but hey...at least it had:
1) emotions
2) was coherent
3) was serious
4) funny

So yes, i have confidence that if Platinum games had with Hideki deeply involved - DMC 5:
They would create a decent story.

I say this because of Kamiya, not because the rest of them. Kamiya shows in Bayonetta that he had thoughts on further going on with Dante's story. He hints that Eva was a witch.
