The hatred expressed towards DmC is going to differ from person to person.
"Why the hate?". There is no single specific answer to that question. Instead more like a compilation of reasons. From what I have heard these reasons are pretty varied. And they range from the perspectives of some who just simply hate it (for being different, for changing Dante and the feel of the game) to much more analysed points that go into further points of dislike.
Hate is a strong word. And a lot of people here don't hate it as such. They dislike a lot of things it incorporates. And they aren't exactly interested in the game.
The majority that hate it because they just don't like Ninja Theory, or they think DmC Dante is lame because he's clearly 'gay' or 'emo', are kind of disrespectful and ignorant. You should always be willing to be open minded and give whichever game developer a chance. Because you may not enjoy a particular company's work, but you should at least give them a chance. Especially when Capcom went to Ninja Theory. So in fairness, you'd have to share your disapproval with both NT and Capcom. Plus calling DmC Dante names like gay and emo is a very offensive thing to do. Throwing the word gay around like it's an insult is shameful, because it isn't one. The word is more of a word used to categorise a person's sexual orientation. And not a word to be used to downgrade something. The same goes for emo. The word is used to put a type of person with specific traits into a category. People are very often referenced to what 'category' other people think they belong in. But to assume that all types of people in a specific group are the same is extremely judgemental and offensive.
That goes to say that with most things there is mindless hate for something and there is hatred of certain aspects of something and everything else inbetween.
The game has been produced regardless. And in my opinion, although it wasn't what I wanted (I would of prefered a continuation of DMC) there are still those that prefer DmC. And there are those that didn't think the reboot was a good idea. It wasn't greatly welcomed or appreciated. But the thing for me is that DmC should be viewed as a game that was made to not only take DMC in a new direction or to make the storyline better or to just generally try to put a different spin on it from a different game developers point of view. I see DmC as being a way for Capcom to keep the original franchise more alive. DmC has got people talking. It has brought a lot of new members to the Community. It has generated a lot of buzz. And in a way it has helped to preserve people's interests in Devil May Cry.
Love it or hate it. It has created something that in a way is somewhat positive to the series. And I think that point has been a little overlooked.
