Why do people hate DmC Dante so much?

Why do you like DmC Dante?

And this is why you only see troll comments from the anti side, a lot of the time we are insulted and patronized for saying our opinion even when posted respectfully or when we post decent concerns or legitimate feedback regarding our opinions. Whenever we try it's always "hurr, durr just angry cause of hair" or "haters gonna hate, you just can't accept change"

Respect guys, it works both ways.

Why do I hate DmC Dante so much?

Lots of reasons, in fact there is nothing I do like about him. But if you want to know the initial reason I didn't like him, it was because he represented the death of one of my favorite canons of all time when I was looking forward to the series and it's characters progressing through future games, regardless of how many of you think the series was "un-salvagable" from a story aspect.

However I understand that is a rather silly reason to dislike a character but since then I have had a plethora of things presented to me that I don't like about his character such as overall personality, attitude, the language he uses (not just the swearing, I could get over that personally) I also find the story premise they have presented to us convoluted and not something I would go for. I have seen a lot of reboots/re-imagings/*whatever Capcom wants to call this to get less hate* and Westernizing of certain franchises and while some do it well, most of the time they don't. Everything that has been released so far reminds me of the less well done reboots.

Also I'm aware of the arguments thrown around when any negativity is said on this game such as comparing it to what people felt were the flaws of the old games (usually regarding Dantes one-liners and cheesy attitude) and the fact the game isn't out yet (hinting at major character development into something I MUST love because I haven't played the game yet so don't know how Dino will turn out) so please spare me, I can respect that people look forward to the game, however to me it looks like a terrible game on all levels and even though it does represent the dis-continuation of a canon I love, the reasons I dislike it are not the same.

TL;DR I don't dislike change, I dislike what the series (represented by Dante) has been changed into.
I'm pretty sure the reason you "only" see troll comments from the anti-DmC fans (not that I agree with such an assessment), is because many of them have devolved into spiteful, whiny trolls taking out their misplaced anger from being unable to cope with reality on Capcom and other fans who actually aren't insane or stupid. To blame one's own actions on the words of another is beyond childish.

However, I take your point, and I will clarify that I was responding to why people "hate," not why they "dislike," DmC and Dante. A reasonable person such as yourself is free to dislike the game for whatever reason. As long as you do not "act a fool," then there is no problem. Reasonable anti-DmC fans should not feel the need to lump themselves in with the petty and irrational anti-DmC haters out there just because both groups dislike the game, because you all are really not the same; to dislike the game is a matter of taste, to actively rage and hate it and everything related to it is irrational, stupid, and childish.

When I say "fans," I mean the former, in whom I am well pleased. When I talk about "haters" and "fantards," I am only referring to the latter, with whom I am very disappointed.

To me, he has the personality of a wet sponge, there is nothing redeemable about him. I dislike every Dante except for DMC1's Dante and SMT Dante but at the DMC3,4,and 2 Dante's made up for it by doing badass things. This guy is 100x worse due to the following

Cussing
Horrible one liners
Like 4 different redesigns and the game isn't even out yet
Not even a human/demon hybrid
Super Saiyan Devil Trigger lol(DTs got worse and worse after DMC3)

I agree with the video on the 1st page, Reboot-Dante is trying to hard to both, like the original & his own man & it's coming across like an ass, crude, not very clever less intelligent version of the original.
Like he's doing it just to do it.
I mean really, getting into an FU argument with a Demon.
The original Dante wouldn't stoop so low. This is like when Superman got exposed to bad Kryptonite & got drunk.

I very much agree with the video on the 1st page, it's extremely sad we may never see the original Devil May Cry again, & it died with Devil May Cry 4.

I can accept they changed his character a bit after the backlash, but they're still doing their own thing. But I don't believe on any level they're trying too hard to do both. Original Dante was anime style, this Dante is being brought more into reality where it's not cool if your friend Nero gets stuck in a giant floating statue and you show little concern for his safety while he's in there.

And I'm sorry DmC Dante is not doing it just to do it. The character had a rough upbringing, tougher than the original Dante, or did you miss out the part where his mother was killed, he lost his father, got seperated from his brother, suffered memory loss and grew up in orphanages and fosters homes where demons often tortured him; not to mention got thrown in in a detention facility for supposedly killing one demon and suffered further torture there too; then escaped, stuck with a gang and then was on his own after that. Yes, try not to have gained a slight attitude after all that, because in the real world, original Dante couldn't get away with being 100% cool after that.

But can you still have a personality like DmC Dante has in the game now after suffering such abuse? Yes, you can. It's not out of character at all. And anyway, the rebirth is about Dante's journey into a better person. Like Will, the joking fool in that film, he evolved at the end.

And why do people failed to realize it was Poison who cursed FU first? If I mean you think they'd would have more brains to use the 'sack of s***' reference because that was the curse Dante said first without sarcastically minicking Poison. Every time someone curses FU, they come off silly for it for not paying close attention, if childish because they can't think of anything more decent to say in the trailers or gameplay footage anymore.

For once people: use your heads.

Oh, sorry mate Nero fits in almost all of those elements you know. It's nothing new.
Nero does say fxxk you! when he does buster, he says one liners or Kyrieeeeee!
He is a demon quarter. And he has a ghost like from JoJo's bizzare adventure.

I don't know how having cussing is bad in a M rated game. Also, that Dante is infamous for horrible one-liners. And that DmC Dante's redesign isn't even that dramatic from the first trailer. I didn't know that not being half-human is a sin even though its the most highly used anime trope ever - you don't play alot of half-demon half-angel hybrids in games. And also reason the reason they probably went with that SSJ trigger is because story purposes and also DMC Haters whining about the hair and lack of a red trenchcoat, but i think mostly story purposes.

I like the way you think, it's similar to how a person with true experiences in life would.
What I noticed is that Dante is playing the likeable route with KAT. His personality transforms from "Bounty Hunter" to "Romeo". Dante is trying to keep his relationship with KAT, business; but his inability to be drawn to her floods those gates. Dante is attempting to not be a pain in mankind's ass and is trying to cope with it in his own way; he doesn't like their ignorance nor the fact that they listen to the ones making them ignorant. He's a very well written character.
The presence of demons builds this foundation of hatred within Dante and he lashes out. His vengeful spirit can result in the evolution of his Devil Trigger's appearance. I believe while in Devil Trigger mode, THIS Dante is much like Wolverine. Yelling at the top of his lungs as control over his body is cast aside for pure rage; his movements pushing every muscle to their feral prowess; speeds that the human eye can not keep up with; Locomotion so fast that a mach number is produced to ultimately subdue his enemies for the imminent massacre. To me, when he transforms it's quick and has a slight degree of depth in it. (He falls to his knees, color scheme reverts, and the environment changes.) The other Dante just has an unimaginative bolt of electricity pass through him a la Shazam!(Captain Marvel). I don't feel like a badass when I look like a beetle or something I can't ****ing describe.
When out of the sight of allies and in the company of demons; Dante becomes obsessed with their destruction. I believe that entire race is his nemesis. He doesn't like what they've done to the world or him. He can't help but talk all the mess he wants to them before he riddles their bodies with hollow tipped fury. Dante didn't do anything to provoke this Hell he's living in. But his father had and that's where he and Vergil may part ways.

That spoke to me, on so many levels. I could have said anything grand as that even if I tried.

Well done, well done.

You each can try & rationalise it all you want, i don't care.
That's how i view him & i'm not alone.
He comes off as crude & dimwitted, your bargain basement young thug wanna be, spouting FU & giving the middle finger all in a desperate attempt to get attention.
LOOK IT's M-RATED, SEE WE SAY THE F-WORD ALOT.
It's like when basic cable is allowed to say the S-WORD in it's programs, it's cool at 1st but gets old & comes across as desperate.
It's the drunken Superman with the ability to turn Super Saiyan.
Talk about biased, your holding onto worn straws. It's blind, but to each his own.

Human/Demon hybrid... who gives a rat's ass if he isn't, he could be a freaking rubber duck and still be cool, are you racist or something? :troll:
I think the worst DTs were in DMC3 they looked so skinny and weak, they are supposed to be demon forms not anorectic froms with shiny colors.

I can give you just as many "reasons" why the originals suck, now give me real reasons and not just "well the hair this and hair that..."

Thank you!

The Demon said it 1st.....Blah blah, & he was dimwitted enough to sink to that level.

I very much agree with the video on the 1st page, it's extremely sad we may never see the original Devil May Cry again, & it died with Devil May Cry 4.

The cutscene with Poison is meant to imitate a couple arguing. My girlfriend and I had this "argument" three months prior to this. She says I need to stop looking at other women when she's not around and I say she needs to clean the crust between her toes. Now, mind you people, these are just jokes. We "playfight" like nobody's business. But we always laugh at each other and say things like "Whatever!" or "Okay!" and even "**** you!" Well she chose "**** you" and I responded with "**** YOU and your cornfield" then...she kind of felt that I really meant what I said because I was on the subject of feet still. I know I know, I shouldn't have added "cornfield" but that's just me. She then screams "UGH!" throws a pillow at me, stomps out of the room, and slams the door. I tell her from behind the door I was just kidding and what did she say?

"**** YOU!" with my name attached of course. I then knew I was going to sleep on the couch. :/

But either way, it does happen to young couples like us. So when Poison and Dante went back and forth, I immediately showed her that and we nearly died laughing. Not because we've just done something similar, it's because we've done this multiple times and it just reminded us of so many "fights". Oh and the Donkey punch was a REALLY nice touch. If you don't know the Donkey punch, then you'll never get why he said that. I'm praying other people have had a relationship deep enough to feel some sort of way about that segment.

On the subject of never seeing a Devil May Cry game. What are they going to do next? Please, explain to me what they can do with a story so warped as the original canon's? If you chose to use anyone other than Dante as the main protagonist; then why are you complaining about THIS version of Dante?

OMG. He says donkey punch?! That's hilarious. I can't really understand what he says in that part.

wellll~in my opinion and generally, the Reboot version simply destroy the franchise's image: Dante, besides that it's pretty sudden to change so much. Dante's like a role model or something like that. He's badass,stylish,...and somewhat unique cuz he never smokes and etc. The Reboot version is cool but then again, he's less stylish and rude with the cussing, a typical character to me. Still, the game looks interesting so far so i'm gonna give it a shot

It destroys the franchise's image? The flamboyant rainbow flower image? Yeah, welcome to the West. We don't play that ****. :D

The sooner you except that not all gamers likes this, the better off you'll be.
Stop running around with your chest all puffed out, stomping your feet & getting defensive when others say they don't like it.
You don't have to justify your reasons for liking it & they don't have to justify their reasons for not liking it, maybe opinions will change.

If you didn't get the Poison battle then ok, I get it, it doesn't relate to anything you've been through. But don't assume I'm being arrogant. I'm just try to help you identify the themes before you or at least why it's appealing to others. Nothing about being defensive, just trying to help you learn something about the game.

:/

Vamp, before I was only trying to get one simple message across about DmC Dante, a message that we were all taught as children and have long since forgotten on becoming adults.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

Or in this case:

Don't-judge-a-video-game-character-that's-only-been-shown-in-a-selective-amount-of-scenes-to-a-video-game-that-hasn't-fully-been-released-yet-and-thus-who's-personality-can't-be-100%-fully-interpreted-in-either-a-good-or-bad-light-by-any-individual.

Which is true. For long I time I figured Dante couldn't do serious until the Vergil trailer. We can only judge by what we've seen. Even I might not be entire right in trying to interpret Dante's character.

And you're right, people have the right to their opinions. But you don't have to be aggressive to others about it.

Did they show off multiple designs during gameplay vids? no.

:O Lol, where did I mention hair? thanks for putting words in my mouth.

Yeah! During the entire fight they're going back and forth!

Loads of people doesn't realise how funny this suppposed to be. It's filled with humour. Sure it's sort of crude. But humour doesn't need to be smart all the time.
I just love Dantes look after Poison said "And Eva? the whoooooore!" and vomited all over the place.

He doesn't make a wise-cracking joke. But makes a simple yet funny reaction.
Dante:...Yup.

Here's the problem with the above, I hate Nero too.

Okay, firstly do they have to show concept art during conference shows? Isn't that supposed to be in a graphics book?

And yep, I personally thought being a super saiyan sucked, But after playing the demo I thought the DT was a great touch.
The previous series was like "Instant bug transform" but in DmC it puts emphasis on how being a son of Sparda is truly special.
It's not just white-hair and red-coats. Crimson hit-effects, the background turning into classic DMC. Music stopping.
It's more like total-domination over the game.

Anyone that forms an opinion about a game before they play it is judging it by it's cover. Even the people who are excited for the game and think it will be great are judging the game before it's out yet. The people who hate the new Dante are doing it and the people who think he's cool are doing it. It's all two sides of the same coin.
