So Josh has decided his birthday this year will be a weekend at a theme park with all the special needs kids and their families who have been pretty central to our existence this past 12 months. One of the little boys has an 8 year old sister that Josh has a HUGE crush on so he's insisting she comes too. He's like his dad - older women ftw...

It's so hard to do research on Slavic mythology. Depending on the source, vila is either said to appear as a female figure in rain... or as a beautiful maiden, naked or dressed in sparkly white or blue robes (sometimes green skirts of leaves) and causing storms and even strong gusts of wind with their voice alone. If vilas ask you to dance with them, don't say no, they are warriors that can kill quite easily.
Regardless of the source, they are always connected to bad weather, so that one is certain.

Thanks. Russian mythology is indeed more detailed than others, was kinda hoping to stick only to local stuff for now, but it seems we ditched it in favor of religion the most. Heck, for number of years my only way to know about it was thanks to a collection of stories for kids based on mythology. Hard to tell what from it came from old wives and what is writer's own thing, but at least it had very interesting characters like Bagan and Bjesovi.

Currently I'm reading about vila and rusalka, though only the former really differs according to the source. But I appreciate any story you can give me.

edit: Hmm, rusalka was quite often considered to be a half-human, and half-fish creature... yes, very much like mermaid. In fact, the name is somewhat incorrectly translated as mermaid. She was also very known for her red hair (save for some variation where it was green). By this I conclude little mermaid was actually... a rusalka. Or at least a distant relative. XD

So last night, after a year or more of suffering with terminal cancer, my aunt passed away.

I haven't seen her in over three years, so I honestly don't know how I feel--relieved, I guess, since she's no longer suffering. I was rather fond of her, don't get me wrong; we just haven't been close for awhile now (and she made it a point to keep a fair distance from people when she was diagnosed; she wouldn't want tears, and I might actually be the only one capable of not shedding them--and yet, there's nothing noble about it. I just can't feel anything right now).
