i would love to learn another language outside of english and my native irish maybe spanish or something weird like mandarin

They are making my daughter learn Arabic this term - bearing in mind my town is so white it glows in the dark, a lot of parents kicked off. I'm all for it - I only know a little Urdu and having lived in an almost exclusively Pakistani/Indian/Sikh community for 24 years, learning Arabic would have been awesome. Either that or Polish, I guess. Around here though, people seem ever so slightly wary of anyone who isn't white so no wonder some parents are raging.

But still, it is a language - not a lifestyle or religion. What is the harm in learning more than the usual French, German or Spanish?

CT: so after being punched in the face repeatedly during Jake's dentist trip, today worked out fine thanks to an impromptu visit to Twycross Zoo

That's an odd choice, I didn't think it would be doable in regular school time since it involved learning an entirely new alphabet, grammar and right to left reading style. It would take considerably longer for the kids to get up to scratch with Arabic (or Chinese) than it would for them to be able to use one functionally that uses Roman letters.

IIRC my friend through junior school had to attend an additional after school Arabic class for 4 years to learn all that part because it took so long, and her family was Arab anyway. You'd think they would pick up the writing quick being surrounded by Arabic speakers and Arabic stuff from the community but they still said it was tough.

What is that? Four/five artists doing renders of Felicia? I can't stand that f***ing creature!:banghead:...:dead: (Sorry) One was bad enough, but it's all over the XNA groups... I can appreciate that people like a character but it the same type of pose over and over!:vomit:

*Phew* at least Michael 4 is working, which is more than can be said for the 'gens' file... :meh:

I don't think I can do this...:hungover:

*hugs forums affectionately**chucks candy at everyone**runs off*

+ Accidentally read "dental office" as "hentai office"...hmm....

D'aww... :) *Hugs back, and munches on candy*

Lol, I had a moment like that earlier today, but for the life of me, I can't remember what the word was, and what I thought it said. :P I know it was something dirty, though.

CT: It's like David Mitchell (the author, not the TV guy) is writing everything I have ever thought about my son having autism - reading his comments makes me both laugh and cry as I recognise almost everything that he feels and thinks; as well as the anecdotes about how his son behaves.

Like today - we go to the zoo, Jake insists on staying in his pushchair rather than running around with his brother and shows mild interest in the animals as we go around. As soon as I take a photo with my mobile, however, he grabs it off me and looks at the animals with great interest - even though they are physically right there in front of us. I can theorise as to why he does that but a part of me is still baffled by the action.

Also, gorillas are bigger than I thought and I was genuinely a little bit terrified when one stood up and wandered over to the front of the enclosure today. That thing could snap my entire body in two without so much as breaking a sweat...

*piece of candy hits VeeBee in the face* Ow, my eye!... wait... I can see! *Is hit by another piece of candy*... oh wait... no I can't...

Dental or hentai office... I know where I'd rather be  (hentai office... I'd have to be a masochist to go to the dentist.:'()

CT: Downloaded the 'Angela Cat Talks' app... I wasn't be groomed by anyone... Although, I was grooming a cat...
Posted a couple of pics to Facebook as 'proof'.

Just became teary eyed over seeing footage of family members being reunited in North and South Korea.
It's so sad that these people waited decades to see each other, and it's only for a few hours before they are sent back to their respective sides.

It's kind of a PR exercise by the North to improve ties with the South and they threatened to cancel it if the SK-US drills went ahead recently (how's that for emotional manipulation... ). But they didn't cancel it? I sure hope some progress gets made anyway, the whole situation is crazy and shouldn't even exist in this time period.

Yep, they're actually doing it and the North hasn't thrown a temper tantrum about this yet.

I don't know why outside forces haven't done something about North Korea. It's a messed up cult of personality for the Kim family, who act like they are gods and ruin lives of all people living in the North; and that side make threats to South Korea and the rest of the world, as well as actually having a nuclear missile.
The US went into Iraq due to the possibility of weapons of mass destruction, but North Korea actually has them, makes a lot of threats of war, yet nothing is done.
Then again, going in could create an even worse problem considering North has missiles trained on South, it would be outright bloodbath civil war.

What I also don't understand is why they do not let all family reunite and then all live together. I guess it's something to do with North side being stubborn and saving face.
Some of these people are so old that they will never get a chance to reunite before they die. I just wish they could be sent to South side to live with family for however long they have left.

CT: so after seeing the dietician today I was told that my youngest was severely deficient in a number of key nutrients and that he needed to eat a more varied diet. Really? That had not occurred to me whatsoever. I just thought asking to be referred to yourselves because I was concerned about my son's food aversion would result in a game of Ludo.

Cannot believe they are paying these people to tell me what anyone with half a brain would know...what I need is help, not Captain Obvious.

Not sure exactly what can be done without super-ridiculous amounts of bloodshed, except little by little and around a table (the ideal). Nuclear deterrent principle in its less than cute incarnation but it was always going to happen that nations not bound by treaty would get hold of nuclear weaponry. NK's nuke threats can't be taken as much more than childish posturing atm, though their domestic threats and abuses are quite real. NK must know a nuclear strike against SK would leave their own regime the center of a smoking crater, too.

It's not as simple a situation as Iraq, NK has the support of both Russia and China, but China particularly and could effectively hold its own population hostage against an outside threat. Not to mention countries including the US will intervene where there's something to be gained, these days, but not lost. Business and economy dictates who you side with more now, if you're a government at least, and nobody will want to upset a country with which they have a lot of business deals...

If there was free movement I can guess which side they'd be picking, and that they wouldn't keep silent about what they've put up with in the North. A lot of effort in NK goes toward upkeep of the cult of personality in the ruling family and keeping people quiet about what happens inside that country on pain of death. They go to such lengths to put the fear into people I don't think they'll ever let them leave.
