Well that was insulting.

@Captain Xin

Huh, I'm not familiar with those particular reviewers, myself, but yeah, like pretty much everyone else said---just take it with a grain of salt. :) Most reviewers like to make a joke out of the games they review, even the ones they like, so it's not so surprising. Try not to let it bother you too much.

Edit: Easy, kiddos...no need for such aggression. Here, have some cookies! *Tosses them to all to enjoy*
Thanks for the reply, guess I'm just being too defensive about this. I really didn't want to sound like a guy who got offended about everything.

Guess I'm just not that into their style eh?

I shook my head so hard when JonTron blurted out "They made him look like the developer!" It's sad that so many people still believed that.
Better yet, I like how in the Part 2 video, how JonTron describes Old Dante's appearence as "iconic."

I wonder if he knows about Dante literally having his design lifted from Vash the Stampede from the Trigun series.

And Blade.

And Neo.

And Alucard from SotN.

And Fierce Deity Link.

And Cobra.

And Brad Pitt --

[Come on, I can't be the only one who see's the similarities, here.]

All of which had been around BEFORE DMC1, which was released in the fall of 2001, so yeah, I'd say he's an amalgamation of sorts with all these guys fused (badly) together.

But other than that, they look totally different.

"Iconic"? Please.

exactly.

Some people need to lighten up more, it shows how DmC has split the fanbase so much that people need to feel defensive on anything negative towards DmC.

True there are some jerks or "haters" out there who may have "hurt" some of the fans of DmC to that point to be that defensive and feel insulted easily, but these guys just like to have fun ripping on stuff and its their brand of comedy, don't get why such hate is being thrown at them in the comment sections on youtube.

I thought it was entertaining actually and apparently so did many other DmC fans out there as well.
Exactly. It's like people are just trying to find ways to make themselves seem 'hurt'. They're getting hurt by stuff they have no control over (and which they sought out themselves!), then blame others for getting hurt... so juvenile. It's like christians saying they're offended by atheists' existence, or by certain atheist opinions. LOL. How is that anyone's problem but their own?
So don't watch the video, then. I don't really see what's insulting about it, as I haven't heard any real opinion from those guys. All they're doing is making jokes, so... sorry, I don't see what this thread is about.

I think what makes Dante iconic in appearance are four things. Red coat, sword, and E&I.

I don't care what kind of hair he has as long as it's Dante underneath, I have not a problem with them changing his hair color.

Oh come on, everything in anime and games is ripped off from something else. There are SO many characters that have white hair and red clothing, it's amazing.
I remember people saying Dante's design was ripped off of Inuyasha, and now you're saying he's ripped off from Vash the Stampede? So which is it? Both? Or perpaps all anime characters remotely like Dante? Come on, make up your minds. Like I said, there are bound to be some characters that are very similar to each other.
It's like saying Hitsugaya's look was ripped off from Vergil or something. It's a useless opinion.

Didn't your profile say you were leaving? You have to actually be gone for people to miss you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, Vergil had more than his fair share of inspiration taken from Sephiroth, Sesshomaru, and Legion from Shadow Man.

[Legion held his sword the same way and acted all elegant while taking residence inside a tower -- that's too big of a coincidence, if you ask me.]

I decided to stay, though I'm going to be away for longer periods of time than before. I don't really see why you care.

You're aware where the inspiration came from was revealed by the creators long ago? Why are you asking what fans think when the proof HAS GOT TO STILL BE IN THE PUDDING!

Oh and iconic...

It wasn't a serious question, it was meant to show how stupid the argument is that he was ripped off of a single character. If he thinks he's ripped off from Vash, then he might be ripped off from other characters too, really. Are all characters that wear red clothing ripped off from Vash? LOL. Just because he has similar facial features, hairstyle or clothes does not mean he's ripped off from it.

I don't know what your example of Leon Kennedy vs Dante is supposed to mean, because we already know that DMC1 was at some point Resident Evil 4. RE4 went too far off the beaten path and became DMC1. How is putting Dante's face on Leon's clothing supposed to show that Dante is not iconic? Dante, aside from his face and hair, does not look much like Leon. Which is exactly what your picture illustrates *facepalm*. He's got completely different clothes (different style), a different personality, different skills, and so on and so forth. So yeah, he's still an iconic character, even more so since he's the face of the DMC series. He is its protagonist and has been on the cover of every DMC game. I'm starting to think you don't know what the word 'iconic' means. It doesn't even mean he's a unique character, it just means he serves as an icon - something you can instantly recognize. Full stop.

Um. I don't think you quite understand that I understand what you aren't comprehending. If you place the devil hunter's clothes on Leon, you'd know instantly who's clothes he's wearing. The other way around isn't the same. If Dante didn't have his white hair and it were brown in that picture, you wouldn't know it was him. So again, I say. iconic; Red coat, sword, and guns.

I'm certain alot of people thought Dante was on the right because what caught your eyes was that damn red coat and that sword hilt not the white hair.

Oh come on, everything in anime and games is ripped off from something else.
I'm sure they do. The creators of forementioned anime and video games, including Hellsing-creator Kouta Hirano, have openly stated that their product is indeed an impression of another source. Hellsing's Alucard dresses and wields an arsenal almost identically to Vash from Trigun...that's why Hirano went out of his way to state that Alucard's design was based on him, as well as peppering various Trigun references in the Hellsing manga (i.e., the words Trigun hidden amongst villaness Zorin Blitz's facial runes). And guess what? Hideki Kamiya is one of these people. He's stated that Dante's personailty and design was lifted not only from popular anime, but from one specific character from the manga, Cobra. He's openly stated that Dante's design isn't original...he knows Dante isn't some singular, iconic, or a work of his own. The problem is that many fans...including JonTron...have contradicting misconceptions that he IS original.
There are SO many characters that have white hair and red clothing, it's amazing.
Yes, and a lot of characters have Dante's same backstory as well, including characters like Vash and the even earlier-conceived Vampire Hunter D. But, once again...a lot of people act that Dante's origins are something to sing about, when in fact, they're just as derivative as his visual design.
Hmm, you know...I'm pretty sure a coincidence like characters with visual similarities are quite common in the video game/anime medium. You know what's not common? Sharing the same visual style, basic origins story, relationships with other characters, twin brother complex, and role in said story with other characters of other works. THOSE are elements in Dante's conception that people find similar to Vash or InuYasha. Although I only remember mentioning Vash...so please don't lump me with other people's comparisons. I'm not "everybody", and I don't claim to speak for "everybody."
It's like saying Hitsugaya's look was ripped off from Vergil or something. It's a useless opinion.
I think Vergil owes more of his composed insanity and misguided sense of "honor" with characters like Sephiroth than Hitsugaya.
For the record, I'm fairly certain a "useless opinion" isn't something that exists. Now, a useless statement, that most certainly exists. But you know what is useless? Denial. Denial is one of the direct off-springs of uselessness. Frankly, I'm detecting a lot of denial in your little tangent. You aren't as upset as you sound, are you? I should hope not.

Whole iconic debate is stupid and mostly related to people who, for some reason just hate when somebody mentions that they like original Dante.
Why it's stupid? Because there is some characters who was completely based upon other characters and yet they are still iconic.

+ Physics von Van Damme + Appearance of Walken. And personal story of character similar to Rambo. And evil twin brother with different color palette. (oh, where have we seen that) ;)
Yet Snake IS one of the most iconic characters in VG.
So considering that basically any HnS fan and most of the other gamers know Dante from his look and at least basics of his backstory (Demon hunter with red coat, big sword and 2 guns). So yeah, he is iconic. For example Nero is basically looks like younger version of Dante, yet he is not iconic, because he lacks same recognition grade as Dante.

Yeah, don't feel bad about it. That's just how these guys are. Like anything, certain brands of humor aren't for everyone n.n PewDiePie is one of the most popular people on the planet but I can't stand his videos :p
I will never understand why so many people like to watch a very obnoxious guy just scream over and over again playing video games.

This is why we can't have nice things.
