Was anyone else disappointed with how the story went for DMC5?

They could've easily fixed the Gilver stuff by saying that he was an imperfect clone or something.

Another one is where it says Mundus didn't have complete control over Vergil when he converted him until he gave him his amulet back then he completely obeyed. Makes no sense because upon seeing Dante's amulet, he freaks out and would later painfully remove his mask/helmet thing.
Maybe we should just read the novel to understand it better, the summary just summarize things without giving us any opportunity to understand things by ourself...
If they ever relese it in English

It's not that it had to be Gilver, specifically, but that it was him that killed Gru, Nell and all the people in the bar. He was instrumental in the events of the novel but he wasn't replaced by anyone. They simply still happened and they still happened right before DMC1 does. Even more important than Gilver is the fact that Nell made Dante E&I near the end of that ordeal but he had them 10 years prior in the events of DMC3, in which he called himself Dante, not Tony, so that inscription implies that she knew him as Tony 10 years after he let that name go.

. Makes no sense because upon seeing Dante's amulet, he freaks out and would later painfully remove his mask/helmet thing.
I always assumed that it was a reminder of the second one, it's other half that freaks him out. A sort of disconnection at seeing the other half that reminds him of his mother even more. I originally would've said a reminder that he has a twin with the same amulet but Dante's face would've been trigger enough for that, his mirror image.

Minor nitpick: Death Scissors are supposed to have cow skulls for a head...
Minor nitpick of my own: I don't like their laugh as much as it's DMC1's brethren. It's not scary in the least.

Minor knitpick of my own what was the deal with turning Morrison black? Like was that explained ever by Capcom or was the reason as bad as I think it was :bored:

Probably because Bayonetta has Rodin as both are black bald dudes that smoke cigars that supply or broker information to the protagonist. The difference being Morrison is human and a lot nicer compared to Rodin. Rodin I find funnier though. I thought it was an odd choice, and not necessary, but this is one of those cases where am I not going to make a big deal of it.

I get what they were going for but use a pre-existing character and not create a new one? I have an idea why but its kinda dumb not to just create a new character or even bring back Enzo lol.

I don't think it was and its pretty random.

I was hoping for a body swap scenario a la Psylocke from X-men but alas.

Like I'm pretty sure they did it so there was a "cool" black character in the cast. And thats fine I guess given how homogeneous the cast is since characters like Beryl, Lucia, Enzo, etc aren't used ever. It doesn't help that the VA for Morrison is a white guy with a controversial history of making distasteful videos of black people.

Like I really don't understand Morrison is in what? 2 mins at most of cutscenes why not make this a new character why not say "Morrison" is a code name for brokers instead of their actual names? Why did the DMC5 production team want to pull a pre existing "main" character and change their race for no reason.

Try asking them on Twitter.

Morrison was not high on my list of characters i wanted to see return so i wouldn't mind if he didn't.

He's not as annoying as Patty but he's pretty bland. I wish they did an episode were we saw how he met Dante and why he sticks around.

Naw it wouldn't be worth it lol and like I said it's minor knitpick for me. Though I'm still baffeled that Patty got as much as she did in 5.

She gets a phone call gag which isn't that big a deal. It's not like they had another scene where Dante's asks anyone what to get her for her birthday.

She gets the cameo scene and then a pretty lengthy report in Morrisons letters. It's not a lot yeah its about the same as what Kyrie gets, I'm just bitter because Lucia got nothing and the Beryl (DMC2 Novel) reference wasn't even a reference they just slapped the name on something. :(

Like the DMC2 girls are my favorite and it just sucks that they aren't even referenced in the game, Beryl I can understand but come one. I think the worst is how active the new fanbase is around DMC again and Lucia isn't in anything because of the negativity around 2 and the fact that 5 doesn't mentions her. It's a personal issue for me lol.

Agreed. Not bringing Enzo back makes sense as he lost an arm to due to it being possesed, and Capcom would have to try explaining why there are two different Enzo's running around in different games. One with both his arms, and one with a missing arm. I'd prefer if they went with a new character in this case.

I kind of like it. Morrison was not interesting, at all. He's a bit more animated now, no pun, and his personality has grow.

Yes, to the latter. Usually that kind of thing irritates me but I don't mind it here. Not for this case since I have so little attachment to the anime.

I feel ya. I hate it when they do that, but to answer your question, they did it for the fanservice. They tried to incorporate every media of DMC ever published or aired. The only one that didn't make it was the DMC2 novel and the DMC3 manga.

Seriously? The lead singer Subhuman got booted the day the song released because of his... history and this guy gets no mention? It really is because people hated Dante's theme. If it had been Morrison who sang it he's gotten the boot day 1, too.

Rodin is based on a character from a manga, Angel Heart, I think, the City Hunter spin off. He's a tall, black bartender but I don't think he smoked. He was an informant or a support character of some kind. Don't think it was weapons in the manga. I think his name was Michael.

Yeah the lead singer was booted before the news about all the stuff he did, it really was because people didn't like the music. There's a lot of gross stuff surrounding the actors but fans really don't care when you bring it up. But yeah Morrision should have been a new character in 5 if all Capcom wanted was a smooth talking black guy in the game.

I feel like if they ever do a crossover game, they should reference the 2nd light novel. Dante does travel to an alternate universe there. So just use the same device or whatever.

I'm not sure I need Enzo to come back. I don't mind if he did but i didn't care for Bayonetta's take on him.

To be fair Enzo acts the same way in DMC, it's just in Bayo he's aged up with a family. Though I wish the stuff in the 2nd novel was used in the games, who knows maybe the new anime will?

Sorry dude, its just I read a good fanfic years back where Enzo overcame his cowardice and became a hunter. So butt-monkey Enzo can't compete.

The alternate universe stuff is more limited but Beryl could pop up.

I don't mind so much that Beryl's not gonna pop up, the novel introduces and ends her story pretty well, I'm more annoyed that her reference in 5 was a Trish knockoff that looks nothing like her.

I feel that though about good DMC fanfics though, I read a really good one years ago about how Nero was actually the created son of Mundas and it was *chef's kiss* perfection, some really good idea's and I liked what they did with the returning characters.

This sounds like something more fitting for V than Nero tbh.
I think it was at some point in concept stages.

But it made sense in the story, Mundas decided that if having a human half is what made Dante strong he'd have his own son that would kill Dante. So he does but the Order of the Sword found him and they experimented on the baby with something of Sparda's (i can't remember specifics its been a while lol) and that causes some ****ed up **** to Nero which gets explored in the fan fic. I don't wanna spoil the whole thing in text since it kinda takes away from how good the buildup is in the story, but in terms of how DMC5's story was going to go I thought it would ge along more that kinda tone.
