I'm hitting so many bumps with my Batman story. I feel like writing a psychologist means I need to know more about psychology than I currently do, but I really hate research. :S
I know a fair amount about psychology. If you have any questions, let me know. I do constant research on it. Maybe your question might be something I know. Or something I can link you to.

Also my pet peeve when I read fanfiction; is when people change canon characters to make them fit in a pairing. Example Hermione Granger/ Draco Malfoy
Never in a million years are they ever going to be a couple. Maybe a friendship not a close one, but still a friendship maybe possible but not a romantic relationship.

I HATE when they do this for Supernatural fanfiction. Especially with Dean and Cas.

Hmm, I'm trying to write a story about a thief who happens to try and steal from the riches guy in town and finds out he is not human and is also part of the one of the faerie courts. Now, I just need to figure whether or not to make him part of the Seelie court or something....though the story is called the Court of Winter.....>.> The thief's name also happens to be called Winter. Hmm, I may have to do some work, but so far I'm liking how the story is going. hehehe

Ouch. Just got one of those, "punch to the gut" type of comments on WoN, via the writing group I'm part of on Wattpad. ._. The sad thing is, I know the chapter in question is pretty weak--the earlier chapters in general are unsatisfactory, despite them being the most edited out of the entire batch (seriously, first and second draft are such an insult, compared to the number of times I've done anything from minor edits to full scene rewrites). Still, even knowing that...it still sucks, when you get a comment like that.

Eh. As long as I remind myself that they didn't tell me something I didn't already know, I'll bounce back.

I want to start writing again and this time feel like testing myself with Bleach fanfiction, nothing spectacular mind you, but it will require an original character and... do you have any idea how bloody hard it is to come up with a name in Japanese (that isn't a generic baby names example)? Kubo used a system where pretty much each character has kanji in their name that fits their personality or role in the series, and I wanted to emulate that, except I'm stuck like a bee in a bottle of syrup.

Current writerly thoughts/rants: Forget about everything; just focus on what's important right now. You will get through this, your work will improve and the story with it. No matter how many drafts, no matter how long it takes--you will get where you want to be. Just keep working. You can do this.

Like they said in The Last Samurai: "Too many mind." Stop thinking about what everyone else says, and just do what you need to do. Only once a thing is done will you know how to fix it.

****, I hate how easily discouragement takes hold. (On the plus side, anger seems to be a really good way of moving past it).

+ I really wish people would get it through their heads that anger/defensiveness can be and is a natural reaction for some people to have when they're afraid. Having to point it out is getting a tad redundant. :meh:

To be fair though, I'm willing to admit that perhaps it's my execution on the matter that needs work...

Hey, just your friendly reminder that it doesn't matter what you write, how much you write, or how often you write: you are a writer. It doesn't matter how often you practice your art, what your subject is, or how often you show it to others: you are an artist. You create things. You are awesome. You are the stuff of legends and epics. Keep being incredible. Don't let anyone get you down because you don't subscribe to the exact ideals they are trying to force upon you. You are amazing. Keep up the good work.

That is all.

I can't wait for this NBR (spotlight) round to be over. Some of the "personal opinions being given as advice" comments are just ****ing me off.

I'm just glad I've gotten some solid concrit out of it, too. If not for that, I'd be asking myself what I was thinking, joining up for it.

So I just found this: http://kate-nepveu.livejournal.com/483239.html

What the actual f*ck? What gives you the right..? You know, what? My thoughts can be summed up by this tumblr post:

You think fanfic is a personal affront to the many hours you’ve spent carefully crafting your characters. You think fanfic is “immoral and illegal.” You think fanfiction is just plagiarism. You think fanfiction is cheating. You think fanfic is for people who are too stupid/lazy/unimaginative to write stories of their own. You think there are exceptions for people who write published derivative works as part of a brand or franchise, because they’re clearly only doing it because they have to. You’re personally traumatized by the idea that someone else could look at your characters and decide that you did it wrong and they need to fix it/add original characters to your universe/send your characters to the moon/Japan/their hometown. You think all fanfic is basically porn. You’re revolted by the very idea that fic writers think what they do is legitimate.

We get it.

Congrats on insulting the majority of writers out there.

@Shadow Oh, wow...and to think, I was going to buy her books, too. (I've read the first two books in the Outlander series--pity I liked them). This is pretty sad. Diana is grossly misinformed about what fanfiction is and isn't--and it most certainly is not theft, plagiarism, or anything of the like. It's also not unoriginal. Yeah, there are some pretty disturbing fanfics out there, involving canon characters being put into situations they most certainly would not involve themselves in while acting very OOC, but there are also tons of good writers who come up with creative and engaging plotlines involving those characters, and in their true element.

Not once have said fanfic writers ever been disrespectful to the owners of said characters; they give credit where it's due (in the form of disclaimers) and more often than not, write fanfic as a means of sharpening their skills for when they do move on to original work--if they so choose to do so. For some, it's a career builder, for others it's a past-time, and for still others? It's both.

I'm quite disgusted with her attitude. I don't know if I could own her books now, without thinking contemptuous thoughts while reading them. :/ So, so disappointing.

Are you ****ing kidding me?

It's a pretty big world out there filled with lots of VERY imaginative people. I'm pretty sure that most - I'm not going to say all, because that's probably not true - but most ideas have already been done. To be honest, a lot of "original" work is pretty identical/similar to another piece of work...therefore, y'know, kind of not making it all that "original". So where is the problem with someone taking something that is already there and putting their own spin on it? To help them become a better writer, to help them come up with ideas, or to just have fun. You tell me where the problem is, and I'll tell you there isn't one. Please understand what you're saying before opening your mouth.

Ah, I finally gotten around to writing and now I'm doing some re-writing on my characters. lol Even though I haven't gotten far. So, I don't have to re-write much. I hope to start working on the first chapter. But first; getting that character sketch and plot done. ^^

LOL I can taste sour grapes in the post. Maybe she's grumpy because everyone else who is a writer of some fashion knew about fanfiction long before she did so she missed out? And/or it could be she's ticked off because she didn't know the 'middleman' aka fanfiction could legitimately be used to promote your writing style and name and build a fan-base up. Tsk tsk. Shouldn't diss it before you try it, am I right? XD

You are so totally right. I have built up my status as a writer by writing fanfiction for years. Not to mention it's fun.

Well beside still in doubt if anyone on net would like to see something like that.
