The Truth Around Lilith's Death *spoilers*

And the broad generalizations about "Antis" on the board continue...

By the time I got to this point in the game, I couldn't have given two figs about the narrative. I just wrote it off as yet another juvenile attempt at being "edgy" just like everything else.

Oh yeah I understand that. And I know about the reason behind Vergil's actions (I watched the cutscenes from Vergil's Downfall) And that's probably why there's a lot of hate towards that scene. It's just too different for those who were used to the original Vergil's persona. It just feels odd.

...Classic Vergil didn't have much of a Persona beyond "stoic evil sibling who wants more power so he can be like Daddy in an ironic failure and became the very thing he hated." He was very one dimensional in the writing, and it's mostly a fan assumption and fanon conception of how he is that people think of him, NOT how the writers worked with him in DMC3.

Really nice post, Alittleacorn. I enjoyed reading it and it had some valid points. I definately agree with what you're saying and I do believe people have been overreacting. It was indeed a serious scene, it showed a point in the DmC story about the difference between Dante and Vergil, just as you mentioned in your post.

Great job getting the point across.

they never attempted to be edgy or cool, they just used a satire of the real world that we live in, and idk if you've been outside lately, but cursing is a part of our society, especially to those who we dislike, but of course its completely far fetched to dislike the people who ripped your mother's heart out right?

I completely agree. You have to look at it from two different standpoints. This IS a reboot afterall.

Now, see i don't mind that so much but i would have liked to see some of his core aspects be retained and i'm actually willing to believe that there would be a lot less to complain about if Vergil had actually killed her with something other then a gun.

Yeah, even I got thrown off by Vergil with an assault rifle...then again, I watched the scene a couple times and laughed at how uncomfortable he actually looks with it and how awkwardly he's holding the thing; this Vergil is NOT used to using firearms. XD

Sure was. It was absolutely hilarious -_-. Vergil is in charge of an abortion clinic and that's how how he funded The Order. At least that's how my head canon is.

The entire game is a social satire and doesn't take itself seriously but just like EVERY Devil May Cry it has drama. You want to act like DMC never broke down for some serious dramatic moments? Did you play the same games I played? If anything the dramatic moments in DmC carry the better weight because the voice acting is the best in the entire series hands down. Just because you don't like DmC don't start throwing out any bs claim without any credibility whatsoever. Especially if you're one of those people that act like you can never level any complaints you have with DmC to the original series which is FAR from perfect.

Um.. I think Rayl was actually speaking in defense of the game that one serious scene does not set the tone for teh whole game...

Oh sh!t, I was quoting the wrong person by accident. My bad. I was talking to that person who said I thought The Trade was the funniest part in the game.

Lilith was essentially a plot device/macguffin. She wasn't given much character outside of Mundus' mistress and vessel for his heir. Her whole character revolved around her obsession with him and wanting power through him.
Maybe if she had actually loved the child, or we had known her more as a fully realised character then the extreme reaction to the shooting would have been justified in a way.
Yes, what Vergil did was bad in a way, and a turning point for his character, but on the other hand, the child was the spawn of Mundus and would have grown to be just like him. If Vergil hadn't taken the shot Lilith could have raised the spawn to get revenge for Mundus' death.

Besides, Lilith knew what she was getting herself into. She allowed her body to be used in exchange for the power she thought she was about to get. I'm sure she would have realised that would make her a target for The Order. So more fool her when she was shot. In a way she got what she deserved. Sure, if she was a normal human who was tricked by Mundus and honestly thought he loved her and had no idea he was a demon, then I would be having a WTF moment when Vergil takes the shot. But as it is, I get why the shot had to be taken plot wise.

You aren't wrong and neither should he be really, i'd assume he hasn't had need to fire a gun before and if he has it's not something he's done often. I stand by what i said though, if done differently it would have gone over better with alot of people, if not just something they'd have paid no mind to.

And that's pretty much exactly so.

I agree with that too. Gah! now I'm torn lol.

At least a gunshot wound is hopefully a quick and clean death. I would have thought him stabbing her from behind with Yamato would have caused more negativity. That would have been a slow and painful way to die. She could have tried to run away, bleeding as she went and he wouldn't have been able to finish her off, not as quickly as a gun.

But hey the Vergil fans would be happy! :D

I always did find it funny how people are so quick to make big deals of DmC, when DMC in some way have done it before.

-Vergil shoots a demon woman and demon child, thus him being out of character. Yeah, so I guess we all forgot how in DMC3, Vergil stabs his brother in the stomach TWO times to make sure he's dead, killed Beowulf, then took his soul just so he could use Beowulf's body as a personal punching bag, and even use a firearm even though its against his honnor. (Plus there's DMC1 novel where he uses a shotgun.)

Plus there's Dante shooting nervan in the stomach, in DMC2 we had to fight little demon baby demons, In DMC4 Nero shot Echidna's children, and Dante kicked them like he was playing soccer then shot the mom dead even when she was mourning her children.

-Dante said F*ck. So? Dante called a warden a "puggy f*ck" in the anime. plus anime Dante cusses more then the game ones. He says "Sh!t" "Son of a b!tch" "pr!ck" and "Fnck."

-Dante flips the bird. So? Nero did too.

It just seems so trivial to me.:/

But I did feel bad for Lilith. I mean she really just wanted love from Mundus. (And power. Who doesn't want that power.);) But then, what good would she have been to Mundus besides being his baby's mama. She's not exactly sexy, and she's not at all a powerful demon either. Either way, we all knew she was dead some way or another. And when Dante finally confronts Mundus, Mundus doesn't even ask why he killed Lilith. All he asked was why he killed his son. No regard for Lilith at all.

But hey the Vergil fans would be happy! :D
But I thought one of the main points was 'OMG, he killed a pregnant woman'. That is what seemed to be causing the most anger with that scene. So surely giving her a painful death with Yamato would make negativity towards the scene worse.

Lol, as he uncharacteristically drops his attempts to KEEP Mundus from realizing who/what he is at that point. I think that was the whole reason for the rifle; trying to keep his supernatural nature hidden.
"WTF Verg? I thought you were trying to HIDE you're not human?!" "Um...oh yeah, well balls..."

You're saying that if Vergil would have decided to cut out the demonic fetus with a sword it would have been more acceptable? Based on what exactly? Vergil's own bullsh!t self proclaimed "Way of the Warrior" which he just takes his fancy of swords as if it's the only way to be a "true warrior."

Vergil was full of sh!t and just liked swords. Simple as that. I'll go with Gray Fox's honorable warrior code as he specifically says something

"Good! Now we can fight as warriors! Hand to hand! It is the basis of all combat! Only a fool trusts his life to a weapon!"
That's just cool. He's like I don't need a sword. I'll beat you with my bear hands Snake. I'm confident in my own ability as a fighter that my sword is just a liability!

He's just more badass than Vergil anyway because Vergil was so one dimensional and boring. Yes yes Vergil you like swords and you're throwing a little hissy fit because your mom died and now the only thing to do is to just basically destroy the world because you needed something to do on the weekend. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Vergil's boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz why do people like him?zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Did I leave the oven on?zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Did he stop talking yet?zzzzzzzzzz
Dante" Hey Vergil! I'm cuhrazy!"
*SMACK* STFU Dante. Annoying little dweeb. That was my reaction throughout 3.

I actually liked the scene. The death of the spawn had real weight on the story.
Also, it was great to see more tension between the brothers, since it was Vergil who killed the spawn.
