The Skeptics Are Here To Stay(in defense of skeptics, but also looking for new pro-DmC forum)

That's a nice dream but its not going to happen. I think partly why Capcom outsourced DMC was because the DMC3/4(and2) were working on Dragon's Dogma and Capcom wanted to still continue one of its successful franchise. Now with DD2 being developed even if Capcom wanted an internally developed DMC they'd have to scrap together another team (and if it was the RE6 team god help us all).
Ahh, so that's how it happened. I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info.

I see very little being done about this. There are next to no warnings for those who come to annoy the supporters simply for liking the game. It has become rather disheartening.
Time and time again the staff have tried to find ways around this for people to make use of. Unfortunately, a lot of it comes down to the individual and their willingness to utilise common sense. It's pretty simple but our job is made much harder because people insist on feeding the trolls, reporting people for saying the slightest thing that offends their delicate sensibilities and making countless threads about how we all should just get along and respect each other.

Surely if everyone thought that then there would be none of this sort of thing going on?

I'm a little perplexed by all this to be honest. I mean, what would you have us do? If we come down super-hard on anyone who even so much as hovers a finger over the caps lock, we're being dictatorial and censoring people. If we leave you guys to (hopefully) work it out among yourselves, we're too absent and uncaring about what happens to members on this site.

This is a forum - it's a place where people come to discuss, sometimes a little heatedly, things that interest or aggravate them about the devil may cry games. Yes, there are those who sign up just to troll and flame. Yes, there are those who try to be subtle and deliver sly and underhand blows to people who seem the most likely to flare up and react badly. But to slam everyone on ignore who doesn't think the same? That's just mental - seriously, it's crazy. Ignoring and blocking are functions to be used when two members simply cannot get along no matter what and are in danger of wrecking every thread they encounter with each other because of their irreconcilable differences. Numerous people on this site have spent weeks and months going on and on and on about how we all need to get along with each other and agree to disagree etc, but I have yet to see many of these people actually DOING it. In fact, there have been a small handful of these rather prolific posters who, to my mind, fall firmly into the category of sly and underhand - posting for the sake of having something to say and using that post to try and subtly inject some rage into others.

The staff respond to reports as appropriate - some things that are reported, by the time we are able to get to them, have been resolved within the thread/s affected and there's nothing more to be said. Other things are just dumb - "he said/she said waa waa waa" type stuff which really just wastes time more than anything else. And there are those, like the member who I banned earlier today, who just fill threads with "you're a this and that" for the lulz.

Instead of threads like these, instead of endless pleas by other members, why in the world do people not act like the supposedly mature members they consider themselves to be and just get on with life without responding to people who upset them? I've said it so many times before it's getting as boring for me as it is for you: DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. If someone is winding you up, don't respond. They are easily identified that way. If people keep making a discussion out of a troll's post then they are ALL to blame to some degree and CANNOT go bleating to the staff that we're not doing our job properly.

tl;dr - banging my head against a brick wall.

I think that's rather childish. Haters don't seem to give a crap about supporters coming and going, they'll just keep on hating the game. Supporters seem to take things too personally, in my opinion.

They're just opinions at the end of the day, dude, chill out. I'm pretty sure even people who outright dislike the game like MultiBro and Chaser would be willing to put that aside to discuss ideas for combos and new technology for the game, but as long as we keep having idiotic threads like "suck it antis" or "supporters are idiots lolololol", we'll keep having idiotic discussions.

I can usually praise and bash on this game just fine depending on the thread and the subject being discussed at the time without anyone bothering me (just a few cases), and that's because if you just talk about the game, people will reply you about the game. When you start talking about people, then things get personal.

I feel like DmC was a bad example of trying to net in new players though. Netting in new players should be trying to appeal to a broader audience while still being faithful to the old fans. I think DMC4 did this pretty well despite all its flaws. Nero was easy to get into and a good entry point for new people.

However Dante had a ton of depth for the veterans who wanted more from the combat experience. DmC doesn't offer two choices like that, It's like they just offered Nero without offering Dante as well.
I agree and disagree with this statement. While DMC4 did make Nero for that purpose, too many other factors showed up that would have alienated players and based on the people that I personally know who played that game, they did in fact feel that way and did not plan at all to even tough another DMC game. I think the game was designed for Nero 100% but putting in another character who did not fit the overall design was a bad design choice on Capcom's part and was just very jarring, even for a longtime player like me who had spent hours getting used to Nero who was simple, fun and still complex. That and the absurdity in the story and bad level design, both of which were never really staples from the majority of the series makes it lose at being a good jumping on point for new fans.

I think the fact that DmC is an origin story and a reboot automatically makes it more palatable for new fans. Just like DMC3 gained a much wider fan base for being the same sort of thing. In that respect it succeeds over DMC4, it's other merits and failures can be discussed and should be but I think in that area in specific it does pretty well.

Yep, agreeing with this totally. For me, Nero's playstyle was interesting, but I wishe he had not been included at the expense of cutting content from Dante's part of the game.
As for this romance plot and Nero's look said to appeal to female gamers.....did not work for me. Kyrie was boring, and I hated Nero only having her as his motivation. Romance and love interests are fine, but not so in your face like that. All I can remember with Nero is that scene where he jumps in slow motion to get Kyrie, fails and starts crying. His tears sparkle for crying out loud. Then he's all KYRIEEEE! I wanted to gag him so badly.

Yeah that scene was...unfortunate. I think if they had decided on Dante or Nero being the sole main character the game would have been radically different and likely much better but fan outrage won out and unfortunately Dante got shoehorned into the game. and that made it suffer.

Also the love story might have worked had the female lead not been a boring ghost with no purpose other than just being the pair of breast Nero wanted to save from the evil pope who needed her for no reason at all. Also his design was for me his worst feature, because he had nothing that was different from Dante other than wearing blue instead of red. Works great for Vergil but not for Nero. Other than all of that his gameplay was great. But unfortunately you just simply need to have more than just one good aspect in your game to make it really work and appeal to a wide audience.

Wah! Freakazoid! That's a blast from the past.
I just wish Nero had more to his story than the vague past, tenuous connection to Sparda, save love interest, and then stop evil space pope as a secondary goal. Even the love interest stuff was himgoing to a concert, giving her a necklace....not much else. His gameplay was good, I'm not disputing that; it's just his character was so insufferable to me.

Yeah but that's the case with everything in DMC4 sadly, top notch gameplay, bad everything else.

Yeah and I kind feel bad for Kyrie reminds she reminds me of Victoria from Corpse Bride you never really see her so alot of people like to hate on her in favor of emily. If they make DMC5 i hope they flesh out Nero and Kyrie or else it becomes wasted potential.

It's not like I hate Kyrie. I don't rwally feel anything to her. She's like vanilla ice cream. Not much to her, so I don't have enough about her to like or hate. I can't decide if that's worse than hating a character....:|

Wow, really? :/

On a side note, I agree with Angel. A lot of the hate that spawns for DmC comes from some of the threads that people make solely to talk about how "bad" the anti users are. To be honest, it just gives them more fuel to work with as well as giving them a sort of reaction. Although, I consider myself to be a neutral since I'm slightly interested in the game but I don't necessarily like the combat system. I will still try the game out myself, just when I'm able to get it for the PC without wasting my own money on it. (Playing it on a friend's PC)

I enjoyed Nero's campaign somewhat; when it was about him tracking down Dante, I liked that. The gradual unveiling of the conspiracy was okay too (though I think handled very shoddily in order to keep the classic "isolated" feeling.) Kyrie I wanted to like...

But then I noticed she only had like three lines in the entire goddamn game. Could've been worst though... she could've been chatting up how Nero was going to save her the entire game...
