The ranting thinking thread

We aren't in a version of 1984 so much as Minority Report
I have no doubt that given unlimited time, this government will reach it - after all Orwell’s “Ingsoc Party” that ruled the country in 1984 was a satirical abbreviation of the phrase “English Socialism” ;)

I'd like to think people will wake up and bin off this government as soon as elections allow. The woman in charge of our taxation is already being super suspect in how she dodges her own tax paying requirements. Running out of legitimate political parties to vote for nowadays and almost wish that either the Monster Raving Loony party would win for once or that Al Murray had become prime minister back in the day instead.

Candidate options are so limited around my neck of the woods when it comes to local elections too - I end up invalidating my ballot half the time because I don't want any of them.

So it’s 4am here and once again I am not sleeping, guess I have to rant this out somewhere.

For context. I handed in my two weeks notice lately. By law it must be 2 weeks, but I made it 3 simply because being co-operative and knowing they’re gonna have a problem replacing me: it is generally known on this market that there is shortage on people suitable for my position.

Well. I’ve had one of the ****tiest 2 weeks I’ve had in my entire life and there is one more week to go. I’ve got vague and unjustified notes on inappropriate behaviour (I have zero context, and for the record, I never got any before this sh*tstorm) used as grounds to deny me from talking with first my clients and then with my coworkers. My phone number was shut off suddenly, which is technically illegal for taxation reasons. I am assigned with like 1-2 hrs worth of tasks for 8 hr day, all the while I am suddenly forbidden from doing a task on my own when I see one.
I am completely ostracized by orders from the managing level and everything they do seems like a petty revenge act for daring to resign.

So, what am I thinking?
Bare minimum, cupcakes. For my final week it will be bare minimum on my behalf. :cautious:

Not that I wouldn’t be afraid of Monday and what’s up next, because all of above didn’t happen overnight, stuff was just getting gradually worse.

That's awful, @therogis. I'm really sorry this is happening to you. Looks like their true colours are showing now you're leaving them - I hope you can find a far better place to work instead.

Thank you for support. And no worries, I am expected in another office, so I won’t fall unemployed.

I have aggression management run playlist in Spotify from somewhere like 2020. So yesterday I hit the trail, blasted that list in my headphones, and remembered how fast I can run when I am powered by injustice and rage

I actually beat a personal best yesterday

Good for you! I gave my job 4 months notice, hated every second of it and then left behind my income, almost all my friends, entire social life etc when I went.

2.5 years later I'm back on track with a completely different lifestyle and no drama. Might be on one income with a family of 4 + giant dog to care for, but we're all far better off like this.

So after a court ruling that dictated that the government has broken the law in using hotels as a dumping ground for illegal aliens, the government has tried to appeal using this defence:

At least they’re saying the quiet part out loud now. It’s good to know that it is not simply incompetence and that we are actually living in a nation ruled by a State that is actively hostile to its people. Perhaps the good people of Epping should refuse to pay their taxes and see what the Government tries to do about it.
“If we lose this war, 100 years from now Europe will not be European” - Adolf Hitler, 1944

This has all been planned by international Jewish supremacist that are purposely trying to breed us out of existence. Banned from over 110 countries but supposedly never their fault, yeah right.

Okay grandpa, let’s get you back into the care home. :p

You're welcome to have your conspiracy theories but this one borders on offending people due to the potential of it being seen as anti-Semitic. So perhaps leave it there.

This is getting entertaining. I turned on my work laptop this morning only to realize it is start of the month. Which means new forced logins to every system. Which requires MFA, inter alia with mobile device. Which… as I told above… was shut off on Friday.

The conversation I just had was comedy gold. I told my manager that I am not able to login. They told me to use my personal mobile number and get it connected with IT support. Well, I told them I am glad to do that once I get a written waiver on any claims for damages on the company’s behalf that may occur after connecting a personal device on these systems.

Fast forward a brief moment of realization on their behalf, and now they pseudonymize tasks for me, knowingly offering me stuff that I can add to my personal portfolio on a silver plate :sneaky:

And there is LITERALLY half a person’s workload tied to pseudonymizing. Money well spent I guess.

If I didn't know you lived in a different country to me, I'd think you were working at my daughter's previous employment - they locked her out of systems during her notice period, kept calling and door stepping her when it was out of office hours, kept faking emails from the non existent HR department to warn her about her "actions"...

She left (they tried to make out like they fired her first, but she left) and then the guy who caused all the grief to make her leave (her line manager) got in trouble for his actions and they asked her to come back.

She didn't and went straight into a role that had been created especially just for her at a company she previously worked with, with more money.

People are weird...corporate does something strange to them...

I am so glad your daughter got out! I was damn broken during the weekend - I got better only after I started to repeat in my head ”This is nothing compared to the **** I’ve been through in my life, it will take much more to break me” lol. I really have no idea how would I feel right now without that mantra. Your daughter is strong!

I’m feeling good now. I will take this as praise; I am apparently a pretty good employee, because if I wasn’t, they would not use all this time and effort to figure out ways to hurt me as I am starting to work with a competitor. Especially not after a track record of zero complaints, dozens of thankful clients, several closed deals, court victories, and positive leadership assessments. ;)

My kid continues to surprise me with her resilience - she also managed to negotiate her new job like an absolute boss and get more bonuses and time off.

I can't stay employed for longer than 2 years
