To express an objective viewoint:
DmC is a different game from its predecessor with the only similarities between the two being the name of the character and his weapons which are basically on the level of mere referrences rather towards the old rather than traits that have been descended from the old character to his rebooted self. Furthermore, what Tameem Antioniades calls the "DNA" of DMC is merely the combat that other games have adopted from it and have expanded on to the point where the original Devil May Cry is one the level of basic with Devil May Cry 3's "Style" system being it's only advancement. Thus, the combat of DmC, as good as it looks, and as it is presented so far, is pretty generic considering the fact that other games have brought new attributes to the genre. The only contribution I see this game having is the "start one way, end another" aspect of its combos. Seemingly, the game will allow people to switch weapons seamlessly without having to restart the combo. However, if I remember, this was the same feature found in Heavely Sword. Though I think the best contribution this game will make is the addition of platforming as a method of fighting and a factor in battle. Though platforming is a natural part of most adventure games, hack/slash games tend to focus on it less than other genres. DmC could be the first of the (DMC) hack/slash genre to have platforming as a serious part of combat, though trailers haven't shown anything other than the general "fight first, platform later" phases of most games.
As a DMC fan, I highly miss the old series, but I must accept things as they are and hope that the reboot will live up to the standards of its predecessor, giving it a much brighter future than the deathly road Capcom had taken the series. I will state that I do not appreciate the changes, nor do I feel that total change was necessary, but I am open to new ideas and I have high hopes that DmC's story will be just as much, if not more, enjoyable than that of DMC.
Thus, I am ready and willing to say, "Farewell, Dante. Rocking with you was great and it was a fun ride, but I guess it is your time to retire, at least for awhile. Maybe you will rise again, much better than you are now, but right now you must leave your throne in the hands of a much newer you. With this new version of yourself, comes new hope that you will thrive and live on, becoming something greater than yourself. However, I can't imagine you being any better than you already are. I can't imagine any moment greater than when you had made that final shot with your brother, when you had weeped at the loss of one you cherished, when you had left a legacy to one you had hope in, and when you had lived up to the legacy of your father. No, I don't think this new you could ever match such emotion, but I have hope that he will do his best to live up to the expectations you have set. And so, my most beloved Devil Hunter, even though you had left with a hopeful 'Let's Rock,' I must take that as the final one you will ever say. Or better yet, I will finish it as it should be stated.
Dante, my friend....
Let's Rock!
.... Until next time."
