it wasn't meant to be insulting

i meant it as after capcom telling them that they wanted NT to reboot the series, and after they got dante redesigned and everything, they said "wouldn't it be funny if a wig fell on his head...". that kind of thing. i'm sure it wasn't to spite anyone

At that point the backlash had already started. Remember that the oroginal concept was a troubled, gritty, disturbed individual and the more lighthearted version of the story that would allow for such jokes didn't come about till after the backlash.

Whether there was any form of malice towards the people who flamed them in that scene is debatable. It's very likely that is was just a sort of pun or maybe a symbolic gesture that this Dante wasn't ready or willing to follow the path he was meant to take yet. However, considering that NT and Tameen's demeanor during the heat, it is just as likely that they meant it as symbolic middle finger at the raging fans. This we'll never know, I don't think it maters anymore, ether, it's done and we got what we got and bringing these things up again will only cause fighting.

claiming that people hated new dante because of his hair color would be a lot like saying people only hate twilight because the vampires sparkle, and if they didn't everyone would say it's a great book.

That is a great analogy and a good parallel. The sparkle and the black hair are the personification of issue people have with said franchises, they embody everything that people dislike within those medium, that is true.

I might use this in the future.

After discussing with TwoAcross about the wig scene, Two convinced me that my judgment may been wrong. That the scene wasnt a "f u" to the fans who complained about it. I was convinced because i thought "The joke appeared near the beginning of DmC so maybe they had this idea from the start".
To make him grow white hair at end of DmC to represent the demonic growth.

But reading Berto's comment in this thread i am once again under the impression that the scene is a "f u" in a passive way to fans.
They said they worked on character design for a year - didn't they?

Here is more on why i have changed my mind:
I thought the white hair scene idea was a idea NT had come up before the fan backlash.
But Berto's comment proves otherwise.

So not only is this scene still not funny (in the right context), but it still seems to be a douchebag scene by NT.

My response to the scene "Yeah not in a million years will your character be Dante". White hair or not.

This was a vid displayed at the end of the "Dante Annoys Vergil" vid. Sir Reith (whoever that is) never "sent me to watch it".

Now you can all say "Unknown brought me here".

Yeah.

my whole point is, scenes like these with iconic characters are taken to heavily. tons of reboots and origin stories do it all the time. subtle "**** you" or not. doesn't change the fact that even if there was no backlash, the scene would have still been in the game

You're right, it's very common, most reboots have 'em and so let's that that is the case here, that they were just kidding; They should have been more aware of the mood around the game, they should have known that this little joke would have the effect of making people angry at it. It wasn't as though they didn't know they were skating on thin ice so for them to jump on it shows that they had no awareness of people's emotions, no empathy; that or they just didn't care. This is assuming that they meant it as a joke and nothing more.

What you guys think happened
Guy A: "man I can't stand his hair"
Guy B: "I can't believe you hate this game just because of his hair, learn to take a joke!"
Guy A: "BUT IT'S SO IMPORTANT TO ME"

What actually happened
Guy B: "I can't believe you guys hate this game just because of his hair!"
Guy A: "you are literally the only person who ever mentions hair, for ****'s sake I'm sick of hearing it"
Guy B: "but you responded to me so you obviously care! jeez guy, learn to take a joke!"

If you stopped making "I don't get why you hate the hair" threads, hair would never be mentioned in the DMC community again, because you assholes are literally the only people who care about it. This thread is not "talking about" the thing that used to **** us off. This thread is exactly the thing that used to **** us off. You are telling us to get over something that was literally never an issue for us. We don't have a problem with the hair, we have a problem with you constantly telling us we have a problem with the hair.

I really don't know how I could make this any clearer. Please stop being stereotypical DmC fanboys for 10 seconds and try not to reduce my entire post just now to "white hair"

you do know i wasn't specifically aiming this towards DmC, right? it was for most reboots and relaunches that get hate for these kinds of things. i was having a conversation with a friend of mine and she said that she didn't know why reboots make these kind of jokes. i was going to put this thread in the general discussion but it felt more appropriate to place it here

Could you enlighten me Jak about other reboots and how they have done similar things? I just want to know more about this because its being brought up.

Give me three examples please.

claiming that people hated new dante because of his hair color would be a lot like saying people only hate twilight because the vampires sparkle, and if they didn't everyone would say it's a great book.
But... most do hate it because of the sparkles. They say almost nothing about the actual writing itself when criticizing the books themselves.

You know who else sparkles? This guy.
vergil_beowulf.jpg

And it looks like enjoys it.

And before you tell me that "those aren't sparkles", take a look at this:

"Fabulous!"

"I am no less manly because of my obvious razzle-dazzle."

I wouldn't be surprised if this is where Stephanie Meyer got her "inspiration" from.

Sure Dunte also wears the gauntlets, but he at least never posed for glamor shots with them.

dmc-vergil.jpg

Dunte: What a tool.
Vergell: Shut up.

I'm fully aware of the fact that DmC Vergil also sparkles, but this is only after he got out of hell. And hell is where Twilight comes from, so it makes sense. You could also argue that he's keeping in-line with tradition when it comes to Glamorous DMC3 Vergil -- so technically, it's his fault.

Besides, he's half-angel, and it's implied that they're kind of dicks within the DmC universe. They probably assigned him that look simply out of punishment.

V3-620x.jpg

"I'll get you for this, Edward Cullen!"

Besides, he looked great for the first five missions, so it doesn't really count, overall.

and the details?

smallville
clark: under one condition. i'm not wearing tights.
ultimate spider-man
MJ: this is mary jane watson-parke-- wait what the hell am i saying?"
Peter: i dunno. but watson parker sounds pretty cool to me
MJ: very funny. but i'd rather keep the maiden around (it went something like that. don't remember it word from word)
arrow
rich guy: this vigilante fellow is doing some good eh, mr. mayor?
mayor: this "fellow" is breaking the law. he's done nothing but bring violence and death.
rich woman: only to the criminals. hasn't the crime rate decreased since the vigilante came to starling city?
mayor: ...
merlyn: how about we stop calling him "the vigilante"? what if we gave him a name? like..."green arrow"
oliver: thats lame.

Oh my God. It is never enough for this individual. Don't answer Jak, or you'll be here all night. -_-

Edit: Never mind. Good job summarizing and cutting out all the unimportant details.

Is this part of your argument to convince to me that people's complaint about white hair was only about the hair colour and not about a significant complaint like reboot was featuring NTDante and not Dante?

If so, your doing a poor job.

well, from what i've observed, people have hated NT's dante even before he opened his mouth. first it was the hair. then it was the smoking. then the cloths. and even after NT made tweeks to improve the character for the fan's backlash, he was catching heat. then the game came out and some of the anti-reboot people were like "i can deal with this" while some others kept hating him. i can't speak for devil may cry, but i have been a spider-man and a 007 fan all my life. when i heard that spider-man was getting a reboot, i didn't really bitch because i hate spider-man 2 and 3 but i saw some of the changes and thought "this is different but i'll give it a chance". same with 007. when casino royal was coming out i heard contradictory remarks against the character. like "i hate this new dark and gritty james bond. i want dalton back." or "007 aint blonde. where's roger moore?". and i see a lot of that in DmC. hate for it just because its a reboot or its changing the franchise.

What? No. That post had nothing to do with the hair col -- you know what? I'm not even going to dignify your post with an answer, due to it being so off-base.

And you're still insane.

WHAT ABOUT THE WORD "REBOOT" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? The entire freaking point of DmC was to be freaking different! Ninja Theory was asked to re-invent the character and take the series in a different direction.
