Well to go with the suggestion of twilght, i think it should be replaced with the urban fantasy genre which is just stories about the real world and fantastical elements intermingling like the percy jackson series, harry potter or Early seasons of buffy/angel etc.

Hardcore scifi might be a influence as the city being alive reminds me of something i read by a british scifi writer or dr.who.

The twilight comparison is more of a hater thing to me just like him being a emo fag etc, it justs kids throwing around terms they dont even know the meaning of to sound cool.

He could just be referinng to any sort of film that mmay be cool to him, like star wars, the matrix, or neven marvel/dc superhero films. just like the old series was based on films/animes they thought were cool like space hunter cobra and blade.

Even if they thought vampire films were cool, there are many to choose from outside of twilight and i dont think twilight really counts as a cool film.
 
The Twilight comparisions felt ridicoulous to me as well, I'll admit that I can sort of see similarities with Dante and Edward's stare but all the other comparisons felt silly. For one thing, when I think of Twilight a bony, bruised, dirty, and sort of ugly teenager doesn't come to mind. If anything DMC 3&4 have a lot more comparisons to twilight than the new version.

Onto what there inspirations might have been, I think that Z is right by comparing current action films to DmC's inspirations. Some examples:

A morphing dream world-Inception
A grim and gritty story with a more relatable/realistic character- Any superhero movie

That's all I can think of for now, I'll try to come up with some better examples latter.

Also, if you're going to compare Dante to a vampire, it better damn well be Bill Paxton in Near Dark.

And yeah, I have to agree with what everyone else has said about the whole Twilight thing. Dante ISN'T a vampire, so you can't really make his story relate to that of other stories which involve vampires. So you can't truly make a real connection between DmC and Twilight. Looks just mean looks. If he looks like Edward to you, that is how you see it. I won't tell you that you're wrong, but I'll tell you that looks are only looks. It doesn't mean there's a connection just because something looks like something else. Everything is connected in a way. Companies steal other companies ideas and try and make their own thing or go in a different direction with it. It's been happening for ages now, because true originality is hard to come up with. Sometimes it's easier to take what already exists and try to make something great from a bunch of ideas.

If there is a movie, the star wars dude would be ok, for me, to play dante. He's got sword fighting experience too
 
I was thinking of spike from Buffy/angel fame.

On superhero movies, I was thinking of either Thor or Iron man since Dante in dmc3 seemed like a self-absorbed prick who wants to be a hero but don't know how.

So why are John carpenter movies included again?

That's clip where main character goes through a revelation that world is being controlled by aliens behind the scene. That the aliens are keeping up a illusion.

Compare this video and the movie description to "Glutony is good" at 0:25 in trailer video and the general idea of how demons controll the world of DmC.

Let me know what you think.

It's similar to another and I think it might be a form of subliminal messaging to get us to do certain things, a discreet form of brainwashing.

So that's green.

I would necessarily say that ydante's angel powers come from heavenly sword since there were no angels in that game.
 
We seen the three stances and cutscene finishers that are from Heavenly sword.
And angels are heavenly. Hence why i say the source comes from Heavenly sword.

That's not the inteded idea. In Heavenly Sword you get 3 stances for the sword that resemble the 3 weapon forms/powers in DmC.

i can see the 3 stances ordeal, but the angel powers relating to heavenly sword, because they are "heavenly" is a bit of an exaggeration.
