Devil May Cry 2.99[3]
Devil May Cry 2 1.97 [4]
Devil May Cry 3 1.3± [2] (4.3)†‡[5]
Devil May Cry 4 2.78‡[6]
DmC: Devil May Cry§ 1.1[2](0.79)[7]

All the previous games sold better than the remake, and that's because the majority of us think that Classic DMC is simply better than DmC.

You can try ignoring this all you want, but no future DmC game will do as well as previous versions. So, Capcom should just give up on the reboot, lose NT, and give the series to devs who understand solid gameplay(best choice is Platinum games).

What makes you so sure? DMC3 didn't do that well either (a little bit more than DmC), probably because DMC2 was disapppointing to many people. Then DMC4 came along, and probably was disappointing, too. And lo and behold, you can see that DmC sold less, just like DMC3 did after DMC2. I think you're underappreciating the effect of the games themselves.

Yes, but DMC3 has been out for ages, DmC is only been out for 9 months. It will continue to sell and probably will get some sort of HD thing for new consoles. But there you go again, Platinum games understand solid gameplay based on what, MGR, do you honestly think MGR (its good, but its totally different, and has its share of issues) has a better combat system than DmC? If so, then its hard to have a rational discussion with someone. DmC 2 should go to Ninja Theory so they can improve upon the foundation they have created with DmC.

Also, Platinum games would most likely never get DMC I'm assuming Capcom isn't too keen on giving ex-employees their classic franchise.

Edit. I guess Bayonetta is a better comparison, yes if the team responsible for Bayonetta did a sequel to DMC I'd be pretty excited as well. But we're getting Bayonetta 2, well at least wii users... So there's that.

Yeah...uhm...sales aren't the be all, end all that determines something's actual quality. Really. I'm being absolutely serious here. Sales are nice, but ultimately they don't account for much, especially in this day and age where many people can buy games used (which aren't tallied), and some people buy a game and end up not liking it at all.

Then again, Bayonetta is apparently an incredible game, it's a cult hit! Why did it not sell more? It even had the pedigree of being made by the creator of Devil May Cry! So...why doesn't this shining example of action gaming heaven have poor sales numbers? By your account, both DmC and Bayonetta aren't good games.

To give you an idea of how useless sales numbers can end up - Microsoft declared that people looooooooved Kinect because so many of the bundles were sold over the last holiday, and touted their huge sales numbers to mean that the Kinect was loved by all~ It wasn't. As soon as the Kinect bundled 360s were available, they stopped shipping regular consoles to stores, so the only way to get a 360 for roughly four or five months was if you either bought used (bad idea because no Red Ring warranty), or purchase the Kinect Bundle.

So...yeah...Kinect Bundles sold like hotcakes, but only because it was the only option for getting a brand new system for an entire sales quarter, and ultimately, "a vast majority" of people still think Kinect is dumb, underdeveloped, useless, or all of the above.

Sales. Mean. Next to. Nothing.

Wow. Sales say a lot huh? So I guess DMC2 is the best game in the world then? Wow! What a genius fanbase this is!

Alright, but could you clarify? I mean, I can understand that many people would not want to buy a Devil May Cry game again, after DMC4 (though I did like DMC4). Aside from that... maybe the H&S genre wasn't that popular anymore?

Personally, it had to do with Tam Tam, new people doing the same old thing every DMC had done in the past but looking different, and like you said no one wanting to buy DmC. (Probably because the series has gotten stale)

Can't there be a cheap 2D action platformer that plays like MvC3? Is it really that expensive, even on a 2D scale?

Dust: An Elysian Tale is as close as I've played to a sidescrolling, 2D DMC-style action game. I think They Bleed Pixels is similar, too, and I swear I've played some others that let me do similar launch and juggles...gotta think...

Especially when you should also take into account that a lot of games are bought as presents, so it might not reflect how much people liked it - it just reflects how many people thought it would be a good product - whether it's to gift or anything else.

Because the majority of fans like myself will see to it that DmC doesn't do as well as Classic DMC, that's why. Because we all made it a point not to support this game, and we made it a point to support the HD remakes. DMC3 did well enough for its time, gave us the best combat up to that point-even compared to many games today, and gave DMC4 the amazing combat that is still enjoyed by fans to this day. Not to mention that amazing 2M+ sales. DmC will never get close to that, the fans will see to it.

So if Capcom wants to continue to butcher the series and lose money, it's up to them. Though I imagine they'll soon come to their senses, either that or their wallets will make them see.

yeah I bought elysian but it didn't hold my interest long enough for me to finish. Ah well, at least I supported the guy/developer, but yeah the combat was really fun at first then it started to get repetitive. I would totally love a 2d action game with a deep combat system, I hear that Guacamole is actually decent.

I'm not sure you're such a huge proportion of the fan base as you think you are. Besides, over time, people will have moved on. Some people will not be buying any Devil May Cry game anymore, and others will have taken their place, further diminishing the old fanbase. People who don't really care or know about the old DMCs, unless they find a dusty shelf where the best of the DMCs happen to be lying around.

I get it, and I would love to see the old DMC series continued, too, but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon.

Quit moping, lion. There'll be other action games out there. They won't be as frequent because everyone thinks touch screens are super cool and are complete morons, but they'll still be made... eventually.

Platinum games understands Classic DMC because there are members of it who were involved with it. They know how to make a solid combat system, as the vast majority of DMC fans would agree, hence the reason we want Platinum games to make DMC5. MGR and Bayonetta have incredible gameplay, way better than DmC. It's not even a comparison, in our majority opinion.

So I mean yeah, drop NT and this silly reboot. Give DMC5 to Platinum games or continue to suffer mediocre sales.

I had to throw the edit, because several friends whose opinion I respect were able to convince me of the unique and solid merits of MGR. It does have its own flavor of action that is unlike anything else as well.
It's just, I meant that if you say that MGS doesn't have better gameplay than DmC, then the fans will end up swarming all over you.

My opinion being majority opinion comes from the sales numbers. Frankly, I think most of us would rather DMC series just die than continue to suffer under NT.

Hence the reason we didn't support this game in the first place. We'll continue to enjoy the past games, and any future works by Platinum games.

I agree, but the time to say 'no' to DmC has passed. People said no, and the game still made... what was it, 1.1. million? That's not terrible. I agree that gameplay like that of Bayonetta and DMC4 is better than that of DmC, but Capcom really doesn't care. It's only the hardcore fans who still remember DMC4's gameplay and find gameplay the most important part of the games who think the way you (and arguably me) do. That's sad, but life's sad sometimes. Just find a new game.
