If Vergil was of legal age when Nero was conceived (less squicky that way),
Ignoring the fact that age of consent varies from location to location, I'd kind of doubt that Vergil would care.

Dude Nero looks nothing like a sixteen year old. Stop with the anime goggles here where a 13 year old looks 21. If anything, Nero looks about 19 or 20.
Devil May Cry is pretty anime man.

Anyway, in the recent interviews they talk about how Nero's attitude in DMC4 was akin to that of a teenage highschooler trying to impress his girlfriend. So I seriously doubt Nero was intended to be in his 20's.

People aren't worried about what V thought about age of consent or majority, but with the fact it could be seen under a bad light in a lot of countries, at the point of the game being censured.
Even to Japanese standards, to have a child as a underage is rare and disapproved. This is even more bizarre if we remember Capcom was worried with petty little things as showing nipples in DmC.

But that's silly. Unless they show a full-frontal sex scene right on the screen, there's zero chance of any censorship based on Vergil's age.

In manga Dante is shown drinking tomato juice, because alcohol would be inappropriate( Japanese fellows confirmed this). Bayo was censored and even forbidden in some countries, and it's basically a Sailor Moon's kind of nudity.Capcom had trouble( with fans too) with DmC because of some insinuations , body parts and dialogue, but will fans being in disposition of letting age's conflict pass, even if is a underage pregnancy?Hmmm...
But, to be sincere, V's age is the least of my concerns, since there are even worse implications related to V's character.
If it was the end of the world when people saw DmC Dante smoke or even the possibility of DMC Dante's loses his control over his DT and kill everyone makes people cringe, because it was out of character and "Dante would never do it", how would them react when their god V is now possibly involved in a quick tryst with an unknown woman, in a corner of a small town, siring an unwanted child? The same guy who scorned Alice for her desires and for the way she dressed; the same guy who see his brother as foolish and hardheaded; this guy has his mother in a pedestal, so, unless he has a Madonna/whore complex, he wouldn't act this way.
Of course this is all my speculation, but more and more I feel obligated to admit in public DmC Vergil was better written. You can't imagine how I wish to be wrong in this situation! But we are talking about Capcom's tactics...

@Veloran: I understand where you're coming from. I just think that with people it just makes them think it would go against Vergil's morals. I don't know how you take that and I haven't got much of an opinion on it myself. But a lot of people don't even think or wish to think that Vergil would even have sex. So I'd say that if they wanted to go with the idea that Vergil did, they'd want to put Vergil at a more appropriate age.

Well, Japan's legal drinking age is 20, and I imagine the manga would take Japanese values into consideration more than the games, so that fits with Dante being a teen.

As for Vergil having sex, I feel it's less about his morals and more his personality. Vergil seems to generally not like humans, as well as being very focused and disciplined, so the idea of him having sex with a random human prostitute seems completely at odds with his character.

Very much if we know this guy thinks of himself as being honorable and following some kind of a honor code, his relationship with his mother and his blind devotion to his cause. If they say v has fallen head over heels for a woman, I'd buy it, but with a random woman he never met before and probably will never met again, it's very hard to swallow. Here, as LoD said, it's more V's personality than age what is fans biggest concern.
In Japanese, the marriage age for male for marriage is 18, for women is 16 and the age of consent is 13, even so, apparently, they see their own age of consent with some discomfort.Studies say Japanese start their sexual life later than westerns and avoid at any cost children in their teens, so V's situation is completely at odds with Japanese way of being.Funny enough, it's supposed V being inspired in a samurai kind of guy.

The same guy who scorned Alice for her desires and for the way she dressed;
Could be he was speaking from experience and regrets jumping into bed so quickly.

Being a more appropriate age wouldn't actually make sense if this issue is with his character, though. It's understandable that a younger person would make a hasty decision, not an older one.

I'd see it as the opposite, really. While Vergil falling for someone isn't impossible, I feel like it's more unlikely than a "moment of passion", so to speak.

Yes, but not V.It just doesn't fit him. Unless he is only a dirty bag hypocrite, what it is possible.

A moment of passion? With a random woman? You mean, a boner? It would fit Dante better than V, but even so it would improbable with Dante.
Even Wesker dated the mother of his son and it was her who hid his child from him.So technically V would be even more of a scum than Wesker.

You both just have a different view on the matter. This isn't really the right topic to keep discussing such a thing though, really. I know I dabbled in the discussion myself, only to establish whether the whole age difference between Vergil and Nero would fit better for them to be father and son. The conversation is now turning into 'Would Vergil love a woman or just have a one off fling?'. It's not really bringing anything to the ages of the characters, so I'm going to ask that it stops or moves to a thread where it's better suited.

Yes, sir.As you wish...

Some have mentioned about Nero's age. I'm wondering if there is anything more specific or more substantial to go on to confirm his age in DMC 4. I'd place him at 17/18 but others think he might be 15/16 or even 19/20. Anything that was said along the lines of "Nero is the same age as DMC 3 Dante" or something like that having ever been said?

"Nero is the same age as DMC 3 Dante"
This was said in a interview.Kobayashi , perhaps?

Only DMC4 novel gave Nero's age as 16/17, but I don't know if this novel is acceptable any more. Sanctus says it while telling the boy about his meeting with Vergil.

In order for Vergil to be older, Nero has to be younger. Either that or Dante is pushing forty very hard.

Or maybe he's just really immature for a 20 year old.
Seems unlikely.

A PSM interview from 2007 says Dante is near his forties, maybe 37/38.Since the novel was the most close answer we had about V story in Fortuna, until a new retcon happens, I presume Nero is 16/17 years old. Bingo Morihashi wrote this book with Capcom's blessing.
The same way Sanctus swears nobody was pregnant when Nero appeared in the orphanage. He would know if there was a pregnant woman in Fortuna since he was always well informed, that's why he talks about a prostitute.
It seems V stayed there for a very brief period of time and disappear quickly into that night.
At this point I don't know how true this novel still is.

I'd be more inclined to trust the novel if it wasn't an adaptation, which makes the preceedings at large non-canon. Especially if the scene in question is one of the ones from the game that doesn't originally include this tale. Personally, I trust the producer when he's talking about the game more than the scenario writer in non-canon material.

I suppose it could be possible that the woman isn't from Fortuna at all and simply took Nero there because of Sparda's presence in the town. Doubtful though.

So we agree an underage Vergil could have had intercourse with a young prostitute.Great, now I have to give a french kiss to Sanctus and and say how much I'm sorry to a lot of people.XD
