*shrugs* I speak German, so it's just another language to me. I gather it's funny to you cause without knowledge it's pretty much gibberish.

Women usually voice children in Japan, now I'm curious what the director was thinking.
She started with voicing kid Goku in Dragonball, then they decided to just let her voice Goku forever. It doesn't work out.

Sean IS Goku.

Of course it doesn't work out, they forgot this thing called puberty. Which is why for example in Detective Conan the main character has two voice actors, a man for his older teen form and a woman for his child form.
So now what, one poor choice on DBZ makes all Japanese voice acting atrocious, while all English voice acting is god-given?
Personal choice, go for what sits better in your ear. To me it's Japanese or German (at least older examples do).

End of story

You ladies done with DBZ and drooling over this Sean guy yet? Remember this is a DMC forum and a DMC thread? Come on... *claps hands* I know your cycles probably synchronized and you will bite my head off for this, but at least try to form an unbiased, honest opinion on these voice actors in that trailer in the first post. :3
They are quite good actually. Both Dante and Vergil gave me goosebumps in a good way, and Nero is quite close as well. While I have respect for entire English cast, this time Trish's voice actually sounds better to me. Granted, i still have to hear more than couple of seconds, so the jury will not reach the final verdict yet.

Did I say all Japanese voice acting was atrocious? Nope.

And we drool over Sean because he's Goku. And we're massive Dragonball nerds:tongue:. DBZ 4 life!

oh, my god, children. this is not a topic to get so worked up over. just express your opinion and respect the others.

besides, the mexican dub of dragon ball is obviously the superior one.

Ya baby DBZ rules , lmao

there voices are pretty cool in japanese yes but when I can't understand a word they say I tend to lose interest quickly

I never said Japanese va was awful but I just prefer watching anime then reading it at the bottom of the screen. Personal taste.

IDK there are some anime that are dreadful in english dubs but some that are amazing...for example black lagoon is dreadful in English that is why I prefer its japanese dubs but Code Geass is amazing in english...so is FullMetal Alchemist...but its all a matter of opinion....for DMC I really don't care cause they both sound good in its english/japanese dubs...plus they used talent for the VA...so it is not fair to say that one is better than the other...I mean people can criticize but why don't they try to voice act and see how difficult it really is....

I agree 100% about Black Lagoon's dub...it just sounds much better in Japanese, mostly in terms of the main characters. I understand that not all anime can have a platinum-grade cast for its dubbing (see also, Hellsing Ultimate), but I feel that the assumption that the Japanese voices are ALWAYS better seems to presume that the acting from Japanese seiyuus is universally-perfect....which it isn't.

As for Devil May Cry, well...the voice acting has ranged from hammy to wooden with the passage of each game. Reuben Langdon and Johnny Young Bosch are great to listen to (at least when Reuben isn't hamming it up in DMC3, and Johnny isn't screeching "KYRIE!" like a drunken sea-gull), but a lot of the background characters...particularly from Lady, Trish and co., sound wooden and uncharismatic.

But dubs and VA's are what they are to each person.

*sigh* Japanese language and their style of acting serves better for anime, in way that Italian language serves better for classical music. That's what I meant by "it will always sound better".
For crying out loud, despite cringing slightly at how they did voices, I'm still a huge fan of DMC's English cast, both in games and anime, so I'm not a weeaboo that screams "Japanese always and only". I just pointed out the effect I felt while watching anime.

Had I known it will spawn a discussion on what's better and who is a misguided fool, I'd never bother to post at all. In general it's better when I don't say anything.

You reap what you sow. Not everyone will suddenly agree that Japanese dub is the superior one of voice acting anime. They have their lows just as they have their highs and so does the other dubs. When you speak an opinion for a hot topic, don't be surprised when it gets challenged.

There is calmly asking for me to elaborate on my view and there is screaming. For future reference to all, I get angry and defensive at the type of hysterical approach another person used. Avoid it.

Whose yelling? This was a calm discussion of opinions being shared, not all caps arguments.

That part wasn't about you. Picture spam and hysteric post with bold, enlarged font is yelling, too. Now let it go and move on.

The irony is that many Japanese players have found the dramatic appeal of the English language more engaging in Devil May Cry throughout the years. Itsuno has an undeniable penchant for tweaking the American 'cool' into something people can actually get behind.
