Most of the team for Bayonetta seems to be Kamiya's team from DMC1, not the current teams, and he has admitted he played half of DMC4, when they were working on on this game. Most of it just feels as if he tried to replicated the success of Dante with another character, but went overboard on some aspects, especially when making clear connective references to a series he's no longer a part of.

He does have people from DMC3/4. I remember him stating this in a video interview. One of them is the cut scene director of DMC3/4 as I recall. He was also asked in the interview if he played DMC3 and 4. He said he played some of DMC3 and loved it(combo system) and never played DMC4. But that's from the video translation on the Bayonetta site.

**Edit**

Actually you could be right about the DMC3/4 thing. I may have mixed them up.

Its very similar to DMC in humor but to me Dante and Bayonetta act very much alike.

i just watched that video (not all of it cause i couldent stand it) and i can say that i want to kill the man who picked the soundtrack. It is literally rubbish, i think is the worst OST/in game music ever made. Killing demons and hearing, lalal Jupiter and Mars... that track is for hotels, casinos etc for gods sake....

I think the music is fine and fits the game but okay.

Don't diss Frank Sinatra music, man. That's a cardinal Sin in vegas. Plus, it was good enough for Evangelion!

Though, may I add...Kamiya is really rehashing old stuff...when Bayonetta is verbatim quoting Dante..."Flock off, Feather Face"...

Ya, Jeanne also has some of Vergil's battle quotes. Like "Die,Begone,Rest In Peace" and I think she says "scum" too.

I wouldn't say its a duplicate. They have references from a lot of other Capcom and Sega games too. The rings are from sonic, they also have a level that is played exactly from a Sonic Adventure game. They have Resident Evil references and also Okami. They are just mixing a lot of old work into the game.

It's just references. I don't see people crying about DMC using stuff from other titles?

**edit** Not to say that your crying or nothing. But yeah DMC takes a lot from other Capcom titles too. But you really wouldn't notice unless you played Street Fighter or Megaman and other Capcom games.

At least, Devil May Cry takes references from their own company, Capcom.

And what about Bayonetta, what does It offer in itself, except a bunch of references from Capcom games...

Because old capcom employees worked on Bayonetta. The same employees who created those capcom games they are referencing. They are putting their old work into Bayonetta and there is nothing wrong with that. If they want to reference their creations into another one of their titles then they can do so. As I said before, they do have DMC3/4 developers working on Bayonetta as well. Btw they are referencing Capcom and Sega games. They basically are referencing everything they worked on and mashing it together. There is a reason a lot of developers left capcom and are now working for them selves.

I think characterisation that creators try to achieve is that though bayonetta lacks traits of a mother, she tries to be one which cannot be justified logically. Same was the case with dante in DMC3(Samurai with guns). But creators go over the top where description of a good character trying hard is over done with unnecessary traits.

I believe the game is trying to achieve depth of DMC3. I cant believe DMC3 has become such a great influence.

Bayonetta tries to achieve fame based on Devil May Cry.

I see this as fail by part of Mikami, which nostalgic about Devil May Cry, tried to imitate It. If he'd be such a genius and creative, he'd use a new fresh look for the genre of hack-n-slash.

Just how does this game try to achieve fame based on Devil May Cry?

On the huge amount of references to it and Capcom-related games, which have nothing to do with Sega.

The game's not original.

It also touts itself as being from the director of DMC1, and the "Team Little Angels" is an obvious call-back to being Team Little Devils. the story is actually right out of DMC4, minus the love story and inserting...well, not spoiling too much. But it's obvious that Kamiya played more than just "half" of DMC4 as he claimed. That's not mentioning the outright verbatim quoting of several distinct DMC lines. For a game that is brage dto be "written from scratch", it seems to be lifting all sorts of story elements from the DMC series, including Bayonetta's own origins.

I'll possibly pick it up in the next few months, budget allowing, but as it is, the gameplay, mechanics, and music are what catch my eye, NOT the lead character or the story.

I can tell you haven't played the game which playing the demo doesn't count. It is very much original from my own play through. I said before this game has references of Capcom and Sega games because Capcom and Sega developers worked on this game and they were having fun with it. They are just easter eggs. If you actually played the game then you will see it is similar but VERY different then DMC. The combat is far different and the story is far different(your fighting Angels and a bizzare story at that). Bayonetta is similar to Dante on a humorous side but other then that she is far different then Dante. This game can be placed in the same universe but no one is going to come out and say it.

Which Bayonetta's character is her own and not based off of someone else like Dante was.

Now I don't know your definition of "original" but DMC is far from it if you are talking about references. DMC is based off of Dante's Inferno. Which is also funny because DMC seems to copy a little anime named Inuyasha(I'm sure they are not going to come out and admit it.) Inuyasha:Legendary demon father who saved the humans, who fell for a human and had two sons in which he left two swords for his two sons. Which the main character is a half demon/human that wears red and haves silver hair? Which the second and oldest son hates humans and despises demons and felt his bothers power belong to him. That's original eh?

Then what the hell are you doing on a Devil May Cry forum?
