Any love for Vergil at all?

I like this new Vergil, some are saying he's to soft but I think it's all an act.
At the end of the trailer he tells Dante they have to trust each other without hesitation which could mean he doesn't want Dante questioning his motives but why???
cause he's evil!!!!

dun dun dun
...
or he says that because Dante's new to this whole brotherly love-team work thing

I'm pretty sure he says that because he actually needs Dante's help, and not to control him. Dante is the one who asked that they rescue Kat, at the risk of the mission (and therein, all of humanity), so, Vergil said that "I'll do it your way, but you'll have to back me up and trust me completely (let me take the lead) 100% on the battlefield. Because, while Vergil may seem like he doesn't care about Kat, he does, but he can't put his goal at risk, either. So, he asks that Dante let him lead.

That's all it is. If there is an 'evil villain twist', then, oh well. But, I really hope that that is not the case. :(

Oh, and your name reminds me of this joke from Two and a Half Men. Alan's mother says to Alan, "I can't believe that guy (Ashton Kutcher, the worst thing to happen to the show) let you live here. You're like a human barnacle."

I laughed so hard when I heard that. I still laugh at that joke, sometimes. XD

This made me curious. Even I don't like this Vergil or the way he's portrayed but if you comsider the settings of the game, don't you think he's alright? I mean it's a reboot and if I don't compare the two, this Vergil comes off as just like the new Dante came to me- An entirely new entity created for an entirely new universe, with the character built around the universe not the universe built around the character.

If I look at this game as something entirely separate, a new IP so to speak, then he doesn't especially bother me. He might even wind up to be a fantastic or sympathetic character. What bothers me is "this is the new Vergil" - the mental association of the new with the old, which is almost impossible to shut out of your mind when it's already in there, the preconceived notions we already have of what Vergil is supposed to be jarring with this individual who doesn't look, act or sound like what Vergil is meant to. I have the same thing to a degree with Nelo Angelo, since he's so different as well. Nelo Angelo came first, but I wasn't as fond of his as I became of his pre-fall character.

It really is a case of personal context for me. I'm actually more in emotional opposition to this game for what it will mean for the series and the characters ever after, than I would be if I knew this game was a one-shot only, or a new IP.

True, I'm over analyzing everything Vergil says just in case he does turn his back on Dante and the order I can say I saw that coming and I won't be so surprised :D ... if that doesn't happen then oh well

Yeah, it can go either way. No point in analyzing things now. Let's at least wait until more information has been given, first. We'll give our final judgement when the game comes out. ^_^

Well, I had fun. I'll check up on these messages a little later.

As if Dante will be led so easily, which is what i see in vergils eyes once Dante says "we are brothers, after all". This Vergil seems to know how to get everything he wants. He's a very sly guy, and when Dante showed up, i'm sure he had a game plan for him to follow. Once Dante back talks Vergil and stands up for what he really believes in the only logical thing to do is help Dante. To me, i think Vergil only thinks of Dante as a weapon. A means to an end. Dante wasn't brought to limbo to have a family reunion, he was brought to kill demons. When Vergil says " what else were you going to do with your life" i think Dante was thinking about Kat at that moment. And i think Dante doesn't want to hunt demons like his brother does. They Fight the demons for different reasons and i think their reasons with eventually come crashing into eachother, possibly for the rescue of Kat.

But i do think that Vergil is warning Dante, that he must help him with his goal if he helps Dante with his. And if Dante changes his mind, which might happen. The **** will hit the fan

Yes.You're right. But keep in mind, that your theory doesn't have the "evil villain twist". At least, it doesn't from my point of view. I was just saying that both Dante and Vergil wanted to hunt demons, but for very different reasons. So, yes, I agree with you, 100%. You differed a little from my own theory, but it was similar enough to dovetail with the things that I've been saying. It brought some very important facts to light, though. Thanks. I'll keep what you said in mind. ^_^

Will NT really change the overall structure of the story THAT much?
Or will they make a different storyline and make Vergil a good guy? But Dante in the original DMC series never fought Mundus in his early 20's, not until DMC1. So yeah, I expect surprises in the rebooted storyline.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The best bad guys are the ones you cannot help but root for. I think its selfish that Dante wants to save Kat and put humanity at risk. But Vergil must know something, because i highly doubt he would take that risk without a plan B.

I think its better to have the two brothers fighting together against Mundus because he was the strongest demon ever in DMC. After DMC1 it was always second rate wanna be demons

Sounds reasonable enough. Even I have a hard time keeping the comparisons out of my mind. Anyway, thanks for feeding my curiosity. :)

Man, how I wish they had made this as a new IP!

People still might have hated that it didnt advance the series or wasn't a Vergil game.

It could work as a nero game.

To be fair, DMC started out as a pitch for RE4 before it became its own thing so they could have easily just cut the cord and did it as something seperate and new .

As its own ip, its hands are less tied by what has come before.

Besides was Asura's wrath's failures were because its a new iP or because people didnt like the game.

on topic-

I'm okay with even if i'm more skeptical/curios about his batman-esque background.
I think most of the backlash for vergil is because his aura of mystery is now gone and the image people built up in their heads is refuted. Vergil as a character was sort off an unknown quality and now that they peeled back the layers, people are disagreeing what they find.
I cant say i love but i dont hate him.
AW received generally favorable reviews, but it fell to the new ip pit, the very same which had swallowed for example: Alan Wake, Rayman Origins, Vanquish, Assault on Dark Athena and many more...

And the reason is simple, marketing... if the game is "weird" it gets passed by. Nowadays normal is considered somewhere between Skyrim and COD. So basically if the game is from japanese studio and it doesn't have a solid fanbase in the west, it is doomed to flop. Final Fantasy and Resident Evil will always sell good here in the west because of the large fanbase. But games like White Knight Chronicles and Infinite Undiscovery won't.

And DmC has us... so instead of committing a commercial suicide they decided to reboot on an existing series: DMC
This created controversial discussion and debating all over the internet, which gave it more publicity, now THAT is clever marketing.

And yes developers need the money, that's the harsh truth.

Now that it's been a year and we've seen new game-play footage ... I believe the only REAL angel in this pic is the one not drooling on Dante's balls.

It would be awesome if Vergil actually looked more like this. What this new Vergil really needs is DAT STARE!
