Any love for Vergil at all?

Vergil actually has emotional and philosophical weight behind his decisions. He doesn't want power for the sake of power. There's actually a good reason for him wanting it, this time.

Edit: I don't see the need for a new IP. At all.

I absolutely love his design - I've been hoping and praying for Vergil in a suit for literally years - and new voice actor. Jury's still out on his personality and what role he ultimately has to play alongside Dante. This Vergil's more passionate than classic Vergil, which I may or may not like, depending on it's used in-game - it has the potential for greatness. But regardless, he gives me the same pleasantly foreboding feeling all of his incarnations have. I'm hoping for some fantastic trollage on his part.

Que? You remember his whole "how can you protect anything without power" bit in DMC3, right? Vergil's never been shown to want power simply for the lulz. His life was ruined by demons, by Mundus, same as Dante's, and gaining enough power to challenge the king of hell was his solution. He appears to be doing the exact same thing here, only with far less disregard for others in his mission.

Sorry, but, I really don't buy the fact that he did it to protect anyone. He was willing to end the life of his last living relative to get it, and he ended the lives of thousands just to raise the tower out of the ground. I don't know, it just seemed like he wanted to conquer the world more than protect it at that point (whatever his original intentions may have been before then).

Something tells me this is gonna be a flame war thread soon...Better get out of here before I get burned...:ermm:

So, I watched the trailer again, keeping my mind free from any kinda comparison, I think,

THIS VERGIL IS ALRIGHT.

There. I said it. But only when NOT compared to DMC VERGIL. As OP said it, this is a reboot and they're free to potray the character in any and every way they'd like to. So, keeping that in mind(and of course, not comparing the two), this Vergil seems fine to me. When I watched the trailer, the first thought that came into my mind wasn't this-Vergil-sucks kinda thoughts but was "Hey Wesker, is that you?". xD

And yeah, on a side note, this Vergil isn't all that "calm and collected" seeing how he frantically says, "This is madness! You put all of mankind..........." cuz he doesn't agree with the idea of saving Kat. Though itt shows that he cares for mankind(but does he really?)..

That's my thinking. There would be no pressures of expectation and no outrage as a result, it could work on its own just as well as some current-age demon world and we wouldn't be constantly slipping back into comparing it with its predecessors.

But the lure of an existing IP's fanbase, and the fact "no publicity is bad publicity" is probably too great a pull for them to have done so.

The way it's been executed so far, as I've just been telling a fellow member here, feels like some long drawn-out torture. The reveals, fans' reaction, the creators' re-reactions, the ragelove, done over and over. It's become bizarre.

I think there still would be comparisons but with less vitrol the same way Darksiders is compared to DMC< GOW or zelda.

But the thing is that this is the next Devil May Cry, it was never intended to be an original IP,some people probably complained about MGS for PS1 because it was three dimensional, does that make it any less Metal Gear game?
Or Super Mario 2 because it's different from another 2D mario games? ;)

Besides what difference does it make whether it belongs to the DMC series or not, If the game is good I will buy it, and you can always choose not to buy it...

I think the differences between reboot and original were more than graphics. I'm pretty sure when the first trailer came out at tgs 10, people might not have guessed the main character if not revealed to them.

pretty much, a friend did say that had you changed a few names, it could have passed for a new ip pretty easily.

I've said this so many times, that I'd've been more responsive if was based on DMC rather than a been retelling/reboot of it. Hell, even a spin off would've been less chaotic.

not sure a spinoff would have worked because you run into similar problems people had with nero.

But it wouldn't be the same game anymore, besides why would Capcom want to copy themselves when they can make the real deal? :shifty:
to be fair, Capcom doesnt really know what to do with DMC and they are looking for new ips so it could have been marketed similar to Asura's wrath.

but since its different, would it really be the same if NT handled both?

on topic- im ok with new vergil just more on the skeptical side.

With a spin off take the issue people would've had would've been when a DMC title was going to be released.

Well he is a multi-billionaire and made it to the top though profit, so in the "this is madness" bit I think that was just him balancing the odds rather than "his" opinion much like stocks.
In the end he said "We will do it your way" and doesn't deny point-blank to the end...I think he just has no idea how to rescue Kat. And like most of these characters, no-plan=no-movement.

OMG, i see everyone love new vergil....what happaned with the true DMC fans which suppose to dislike him ? :/

Well It ended that on official FB page of DmC they posted new Vergil wallpapers. Im thinking uploading them here.

That is not the point, this game couldn't exist if it was original IP, since the whole idea was to reinvent DMC, not to make DMC5.

Let's put it like this: we have the original Batman comics, Tim Burton's movies and Nolan's trilogy. The movies are kind of remakes of the comics and without the original source there would be no idea of rebooting Batman.

Also if you look at the poor sales of Azura's Wrath ( has it even passed 400k?) you should realize the difficulties of new IP's, only truly successful new IP's in this console generation can be counted with your fingers.

For DmC Vergil fans: One of FB posted wallpapers :)

I'm not falling all over myself for this new 'Vergil'.
Why should you ? It was a 2 minute trailer, but never say never ( Damnit Justin Bieber for making this line sound so faggish >_< ) I used to hate this game and now I'm all over it... :O

If I may ask, what was your vision for Vergil in this game? If you created Vergil for this game what would be ideal for you? And also is it the look that you dont like or the personality?

You may, but since I wouldn't have created this game this way - as I don't personally like the focus on the modern setting, current 'issues' and personalities, it seems a bit pointless to my mind for me to go into how I would create him for it.

I didn't want the series to go in this direction - toward what more people 'can relate to' as Tameem expresses - though it was probably inevitable; as you can see, most people are lapping it up.

I don't dig either the look or his personality, or the voice. But that's me.

So fundamentally you just dont like it overall?

So will you be playing this game at all?
