Geeze, that's quite the big change in perspective then. Although that does create a much bigger disconnect between the somber Dante of DMC2 and DMC5 Dante literally hollering "Wahooo! YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAH~" when we first saw him. That guy is all over the place, like a manic-depressive.

Just look at it like he came from hell after having the time of his life and decided to loosen up after taking things more seriously for a while (or getting bored with his job). He did seem excited to go to Hell at the end of DMC2. The only time in the game he seemed enthusiastic about anything and even smiled too.

Or maybe he had a Snickers bar.

Wait so then if this DOES take place after DMC2, then that means between DMC4 to DMC2 was seven years. But also, why does Dante's personality take a major tonal shift from somber and serious to yelling out WHOO HOOO? I'm seriously under the theory that Dante went to hell at the end of DMC2 and became a tad crazy from it, then came back from hell with his motorcycle transformed into a Devil Arm. Also, I knew it was after DMC2 because Dante's rebellion looks closer to the DMC2 design of it.

How do you it was seven years between DMC4 and DMC2?

It's probably for the best if we don't worry too much about the tonal shift in Dante anymore. It can't be helped, and nothing in-game will probably ever explain it away.

The confirmation that it's set after DMC2 makes my theory much more likely that all the scenes of Dante we've seen so far are in fact Dante on Dumary Island after his return from hell.
I've watched the trailer over and over and analysed each and every frame and I believe it is indeed set after DMC2.

The biggest give away for this is Dante riding the motorcycle at the end as DMC2 ended with Dante riding a motorcycle into Hell, but what really supports this theory is the destroyed city around Dante as he rides down the road.
The buildings are clearly torn apart with burned vehicles on the road and what not and it doesn't look like recent damage, what further supports this is that in that scene those demonic tentacles Nero is seen fighting are nowhere to be seen.

Also if you'll look behind Dante at a certain time you'll see what appears to be a destroyed skyscraper of sorts:

(You can barely see it in the animated gif)
I think this is the tower where the portal opened in DMC2 or what's left of it:

I believe that the final scene in the trailer is indeed Dante returning from Hell and racing down the streets of Uroboros City on Dumary Island.

Some are saying that it's not set after DMC2 cause Itsuno said that it's a direct sequel to DMC4, well I also heard that it takes place a few years after DMC4 and it being called DMC5 is probably what he meant by that.
Also he may have been pointing out that it's a direct sequel to DMC4 so that new players don't mistake it for a DmC sequel.
Plus it can double as a marketing tactic as well, if he said it takes place after DMC2, that would cause newer players to play DMC2 to catch up and get a bad taste in their mouths from the games poor quality, discouraging them from playing DMC5, they're likely to want more after playing DMC4 though.

Now my theory on "Where is Rebellion?", consider this:
I believe that the motorcycle itself IS Rebellion, maybe while in Hell, the standard motorcycle was damaged and Dante merged it with Rebellion's power to create the "Rebellicycle" if you will.

So do we ever find out who was revving outside of the Devil May Cry shop while Lucia was waiting at the end of DMC2?
At first you're supposed to think that Dante returns on his motorcycle but then some people speculated that it was Nero revving with the Red Queen.

The game might touch upon it or it could ignore it completely.

If it is after DMC2 (which I hope it is) we might get 7 playable characters (3 with story’s the others for fun) Dante, Nero, Vergil, Trish, Lady, Lucia (I like her and hope she is playable) and V.

- on the question, why they ignored reboot, they responded that they wanted to tell more about Nero and his growth since DMC4
Yeah, I understood the questions the guy was asking since he said it in English but I didn't understand the responses.

Thanks, mate, good to know.

DMC x Darkstalkers better be on top of that list :nailbiting::sleep::whistle::cool:.

So I guess there is a big story reason why its set after 2?

it's set after two? well that explains the rather seriousness in dante's expressions here.. good for me.. just why the hell would they ditched 2's costume reference?

"what's with the flap uncle?"

"met a demon hunter in hell looking like you boi, searching for his sibling, he was with a cat girl or sumthin, gave me his unused jacket"

"whatever old man"

"woohoo.. yeaaaa"

Thank god they were conciouss enough not to take inspiration from mix of mediocre action and walking simulator GoW has become.

Some stylish gameplay with lots of taunting. Shows off some of the Lv1 Exceed attacks too, where instead of a special taking every level, it only takes one unless you press the Sword button again during the attack.
huh, this is a much better gameplay footage than the ign one.. i'm sold..
