Maybe when Ninja Theory was hired for that reboot because of their "amazing writing skills" people expected from them not doing exactly same thing?

"Same thing" meaning, taking inspiration from anime.

And a lot of anime took inspiration from old western cartoons, so it would be useless to argue semantics.

So it looks like that reboot was not needed at all because DMC was allready western enough.

So, if the Old Series has ripped stuff off, why are people complaining about DmC doing the exact same thing?

*hoping you don't freak out because I'm replying to you*

I think its because people expected something different from NT with the whole "western approach" it was taking.

NT was pretty straight forward with the impression that this game would be less "japanessy" and to see them taking inspiration from a popular anime like Bleach kinda just calls NT's trying to distance themselves from the whole Japanese vibe the previous series had into question.

Then, there we go :3

By the way, does anybody have a clip of Bleach that shows this hollow thing? I feel a little left out of the loop. If they were doing a nod to that series like DMC3 did with Batman with The Joker, I'd like to see.
Have in mind when i present these things to back up my assertion that "HollowVergil is rip off off Bleach", i don't present 1 thing by itself but all of them as a package.

Hueco Mundo looking similar with the boss enviroment
Pause Video as soon as it loads
^ Compare that still shot to this picture

HollowVergil appearance and Nature very similar to HollowIchigo
HollowVergil is all white like HollowIchigo
They both have that "Your weak" attitude is stronger than the host (Vergil/Ichigo)
When Ichigo tried to use powers at one point it made it easier for HollowIchigo to take controll of Ichigo, similar when Vergil used Dobbelganger ability the Dobbelganger aka HollowVergil stole Vergil's amuelt which resulted in Vergil loosing his powers.

Both HollowVergil and HollowIchigo seems to be "Hollow" i.e they have no heart. In Bleach a hollow is a evil spirit who have lost their hearts.

The setting
Vergil fights HollowVergil in some kind of "soul world" or something.
Ichigo faces HollowIchigo in a soul world

I think when you tie all of the stuff i said above it easily makes HollowVergil look like a rip off from Bleach. But i am not sure as this is just a assertion with high possibility, but it's just that in the end: a assertion.

If someone knew more of UK culture perhaps they could know of a similar concept that may have influenced HollowVergil. Because NT lives in UK perhaps a "Hollow " something influenced them in creating HollowVergil.
Which is why i am not sure.

What makes me think its a Bleach rip off are:
1) The Hueco Mundo similarity
2) HollowVergil being all white like HollowIchigo

Take those two away and it easily can be interpretated as a "Hey it's a Hollow Version of Vergil" i.e not a rip off.

DMC already had a lot of western influences, so I don't know why people keep saying it's "eastern" and therefore, "better".

It's just Alucard/Blade in a red jacket slaying demons instead of vampires. Alucard was also in a western movie back in the 40's, so there's also that, as well.

The reboot was nice for those who wanted change, but for those that didn't, it was the apocalypse.

So, why complain now? You're getting DMC5, DmC tanked, there's no use badmouthing it now.

Smile it confuses people
I guess that's the one people were talking about:
(Ah, btw, that "Zangetsu" they're talking about is Ichigo's sword, and in that realm the two are fighting in that clip, Zangetsu usually has a human form Ichigo can talk to.
Bankai is some sorta super mode, where they're stronger or something. Not too sure anymore.
Just thought that could be a little confusing to someone who hasn't read Bleach :< )
Edit: Oh, and "Hichigo" stands for "Hollow Ichigo".
Ooooh, so that's what they've been talking about...

...

o_o And that's really so terrible? If they'd made something based on The Room I might've been a bit blah but, those are actually really cool scenes. Plus there have been other things that have used this concept, of a darker alter ego talking to the good ego. Although I don't know the full Bleach plot, but yeah. XD

I remember one scene from Elfen Lied [Warning got gore] Where Lucy's alter ego took over.

And then there was a scene from Serial Experiment Lain that had something like this too with Lain having an alter ego or copies of her.

Vergil's Downfall takes place in Vergil's subconscious while he's out cold, so every person he meets from Dante, Kat, his mother to the hollow version of himself is a manifestation he created. It's a battle/conversation with his inner self, inner demon that makes him into something else, all brought on by Dante betrayal and near killing him.

I'm just sad they didn't dive more into that, like how he survived the night Eva died and if that could've impacted the DLC's plot a bit more, or how important it was he got power after being powerless as a child. Would've been cool :3

I guess people have a problem with it, because it is very similar to Bleach. The term "Hollow Vergil" alone is kinda suspicious. Then there is his white color theme, his talking about being supperiour to Vergil, him holding the amulent and with it the Devil Trigger.. and then that sand dimension which looks like something out of Bleach aswell. It's just all these things combined that make the comparison rather obvious, and to be honest, that's also what I thought the first time I saw it :ermm:
But yeah, the concept of facing your evil alter ego isn't something that Bleach introduced.

Tell that to NT.

NT was the one who made it clear on what they thought of the previous series, and that was that it was to "japanessy" (their words not mine).

I know that the previous series obviously had western influence, Blade being one of the more obvious ones, but i just don't get why NT was trying to distance themselves so much from Japanese culture and then include such a clear resemblance to Bleach with Vergil's downfall.

And not sure about others, but I"m not "complaining", you may not know it but DmC was not a bad game for me,
I even have a review for it around here and one member has more score of it in their sig, so I'm not "bad mouthing" DmC because I dislike it, I just point out stuff that I do not like about it, nothing wrong with that so long as I'm not attacking others or putting down eveyone else's opinion.

As Drakan pointed out earlier, one should always convey their opinion in a respectful way without downplaying someone else's.

Agreed, though it can still be considered the same with Jester's character and Arkham's name. Jester acts a lot like The Joker, from having the same menacing voice to the pale skin, pointed nose and large grin. The only difference is that Jester actually looks like a joker that you would find in a deck of cards :3

I wish they'd made Hollow Vergil, Dante and Kat more bloody looking in the eyes though, that probably would've helped making it look less obvious where they got inspiration from.

You weren't so eager to agree with Drakan when he thought that we were both wrong. You only stopped because you realized that this is still his forum and that debating the matter (I won't say arguing because that would sound too harsh to you) would be fruitless endeavor.

I know this sounds like I'm taking a cheap shot, but bringing Drakan into this will only serve to irritate him, so I'd rather leave him out of this conversation.

But, like I said before, DMC5 is coming back, so whether you're "constructively criticizing" or not, makes almost no difference seeing as how DmC will most likely never make a return.

And they took out color-coded enemies in VD. Not to mention they turned the second dodge button into an offensive move, so they were at least willing to improve whenever they could.

I'm sure that would also be the case for DmC2; they'd put in improved animation, lock-on, taunt, and 60 fps, so all that won't be an issue the next time around.

o_o And that's really so terrible? If they'd made something based on The Room

The Room is the greatest movie ever... and still has better acting than DMC1.

BURN.

You don't have to agree with someone on EVERYTHING to agree with them when they make a good point.

It just seems to me that like you pointed out you where simply trying to take a "cheap shot" at me, but I will not delve into this any further.

and regarding the rest of your post, this is a FORUM man, its here to share your opinions whether it be negative or positive. It doesn't matter if the game bombed, the fact remains that we still have played the game and still want to convey or opinions on it.

What matters is if you follow the rules and convey those opinions (negative or possitive) in a respectful way.

Instead of yelling 'fill your dark soul with light' it's:

Dante:You're tearing me apart Trish...oh hey Mundus.

You realize how much cooler that film would be if the DMC cast just hopped right in there. It would be the best comedy of all time

This isn't a simple evil version of yourself vs you

It's a dinstinct looking evil version that resemblances HollowIchigo. On top of that the boss enviroment gives a Hueco Mundo vibe.

I could also say this...

A shinigami is a death god. Dont have to know more about this.
Zangetsu is a zanpakuto. There are two forms, physical (a sword), and spirit form (lives inside soul of the shinigami). A zanpakuto is created through soul of the shinigami.

When Kurosaki IChigo got his shinigami powers in the process HollowIchigo was created. So that meant two spirits lived in Ichigo's soul world, HollowIchigo and Zangetsu:
Here you see HollowIchigo talking Zangetsu (black guy)

You'll also see HollowIchigo was drawn into Zangetsu. Because Zangetsu was more powerful than HollowIchigo in beginning, and therefor HollowIchigo was part of Zangetsu.
But at one point HollowIchigo becomes so powerful that roles change, Zangetsu becomes part of HollowIchigo, thus all the abilities of Zangetsu was now HollowIchigos powers.

So when Ichigo tried to use these powers that was tied to Zangetsu it made it easier for HollowIchigo to take controll of Ichigos body. And here is my point with all of that: When Vergil used Dobbelganger move it didnt work and it ended up with Dobbelganger stealing the amulet i.e Vergil's power.

SugarMoon

It's One on One.
I think rip off is such a harsh term. Why not use something like inspired by you know? Most ideas are inspired by one another anyway.

I think people gripe onto NT about being "rip offs" because before the game was released, people expected something extremely new and extremely original from them since storytelling and plot creation was their strong point apparently. It just fell short. Otherwise, I don't think people would be tearing into their butts about being rip offs.(Still though, they could've at least thought another name besides Hollow Vergil. Using part of a name of something that came from a very popular anime really isn't a good idea -_-)

So, you criticizing others' opinions is "being part of a forum", but when others do it, it's breaking the rules?

I'm not going to get into this any further.

In fact, I'm going to have to take drastic measures.

Dark Drakan, could you please close this thread? I've already admitted that DmC needs improvement and that most of the flaws will be fixed by the time DMC5 or DmC2 comes out. I see no reason to delve any further into this.

There is a difference between inspiration and rip off.

Inspiration is when you take a idea:

a evil version of a character

And implement it differently to point they look different

I dont think HollowVergil IF ITS taken from Bleach is a inspiration but a rip off.

Yes. Yes it is.

Dark Link

Hollow Ichigo

Shadow Yu Narukami

Doppelganger Dante

It's all the same thing in different colored dresses. I don't see the need to "differentiate" them other than to explain the reasoning for their existence their respective established stories.

The evil version of you is pretty much your hidden desires. They have all of your abilities, but none of your personal restraint. I don't know why people are splitting hairs here.
