What makes you think that Vergil would have beaten Mundus if he wasn't weakened by Dante?

Because Vergil's exhaustion was the only thing that prevented him from beating Mundus. That was kind of hinted at during the scene considering the oh-so-perfect timing of Mundus' appearance.
Anyways, to answer the OP's question, Vergil didn't have any plans for how he was going to use that power. Simply put, his motivation for attaining power was to be like his father:
Dante's little lecture to Vergil hints that Vergil was probably inspired by the stories of his father which would lead to him dreaming of the day he would be just as powerful as his daddy (in the same way a young boy would want to be like his father). The murder of his mother was probably turned what would be a nice little goal into an all- out obsession.

It took Dante+10 yrs of experience+Sparda Sword just to be on equal ground with Mundus, my boy Vergil has non of those.

The way he breathes after the fall just reveals how exhausted he is, and Mundus appears right then.
The battle against Vergil 2 with Beowulf was the hardest for me, even if it took me about 4 times to figure out Vergil 3's attack pattern. But after you do that, your victory is guaranteed.
Who ever said Dante and Vergil were equal in strength? In DMC3, Vergil is initially stronger than Dante, but fighting without rest causes him to end in a draw the second time they fight and lose on their third rematch. In DMC1, Nelo Angelo almost defeats Dante the first time they fight.
I don't know how what you said help your argument(especially the the second boss battle against Vergil part), but you should read the post above you.

Nelo was whooping Dante, there isn't an almost, he disarmed and had Dante in a chokehold after the fight.

True but in the other two fights Nelo didn't stand a chance. Dante wasn't even panting like he did with Mundus.

I must praise Dante to suddenly increase in power or learn from their first fight to defeat him easily on the second one.

Or in their first battle he didn't try really hard. He probably thought this new-guy was about Phantom's level or something, which is why he lost easily.
I'm starting to find that a pretty common trope in some games.
If that's the case, then Dante almost blew his chance to face of against Mundus to avenge his mother's death.
Main characters are immune to logic.

I don't see how. All you did his said what I already knew. What I wanted you to do his to prove that Vergil would have defeated Mundus if he was at full capacity.
I'm going to give you my version of what DarkSlayerZero said.
DMC1 Dante is clearly superior to DMC3 Vergil in terms of power, but to vanquish Mundus he needed to use his father's sword. At the end of the first round Mundus managed to get rid off the Sparda devil trigger of Dante. Second round, Dante still used the sword, but this time with all of his equipements. Third round Dante needed Trish's power plus his own combined to finish off Mundus to sealed him again.
The minute Vergil saw Mundus it sealed his fate. Exausted or not.

well Capcom said it so i guess that makes it canon. it's a bit annoying that the only official explanation for Vergil's motive was in his profile in a specific version of a crossover fighting game but DMC3 hinted at that motive so it makes sense.

You might have known it but I told it since I didn't do it before, and how could I know that you remember how Vergil exactly behaves after the fall?
I don't think Vergil was that stupid to attack Mundus without his father's sword, which is the only weapon that can defeat Mundus and unseal the portal. Vergil even said "If my father did it, I should be able to do it too!"
