It's One on One.
Oh? Didn't know I had that effect on people lol. I say go for it if you can find it. My PS3 needs replacing so I wont be playing it for a while, so do it for the both of us!
Will do :3

I might give DMC2 another go. Every time I play it I get an urge to just play 3 or 4 so I have never gotten around to finishing it. I might have to throw out all of my other DMC games to finish it (I would never do that).
Don't throw any games away. That should be a crime
jk :3 But seriously, I feel the same way too.

You do know Devil May Cry has NEVER had strong writing. Plus, you're acting like this game has swears every other word. It really isn't that bad. I can name dozens of other games, anime, whatever that has way more swearing and bad words than DmC ever will.

He's gonna hate this anime then. (Lol I did a crossover with DmCXPASWG too)

And I see nothing wrong with Dante's haircut. It's a normal freaking haircut. He's got a fauxhawk thing going on and it's pretty cool. I've gotten my hair cut in a similar way before. Didn't think it was considered a drughead look. I don't think I look like one either.

I don't know, you tell me.

Actually Dante has a mix of two hair cuts.

The undercut and the fawkhawk.

I agree completely.

DMC4 Dante was a complete embarrassment to the franchise that I almost thought I was playing as the equivalent of the Sam and Dean cosplayers from that one Supernatural episode.

I laugh at the fact of people actually calling this pathetic excuse of a character as their favorite iteration of Dante. He has absolutely no growth, no unique style, and was so fake that his voice was showing it. Reuben really needs to stop voicing Dante because he becomes very shallow and sounds like he has breathing problems when he does.

The outfit is an embarrassment to Devil Hunters of the media
His character appeals to prepubescent 12 year olds
Reuben's voice acting is atrocious
And he's generally lost all style he thinks he has.

From what I've seen I hope DMC4 Dickte never comes back.

Well y'know, despite your opinions, you have a very short-sighted view of things if you can't get past the way someone acts just to see how they're actually characterized. You're selling your opinion short, essentially, because you would rather get hung up on someone saying "f#ck" like a normal, angry person, instead of seeing everything that's beyond it.

Hell, I didn't really care for Dante's cussing in the beginning, but as I learned more about his character from info released, and then the story itself, I understood it, quite well.

To think the writing is bad simply because it uses some naughty words is short-sighted, and especially so to think that Dante is a bad character because he swears.

But, whatever.
*Like I said to Chancey, that's not my point. I just think it's lazy and lame to put one word into the game five or six times, to make the game 'cooler'. Dante writing 'f*ck you' on a guest list is not clever or funny, but NT seems to think it is. Anything would've been better. I would probably enjoy seeing Dante take a magic marker and write his name on the bouncer's face after he punched him. Or if he could find out the bouncer's name, to cross off the bouncer's name. That would sort of be funny - almost like he went Jigglypuff on him. Would be fun if he parodied what Jigglypuff did, too.

*Well, I think they could've made Dante not only cool in what he does, his views and what he has gone through, but also cool in how he speaks and moves and so forth. So I'd say your argument is invalid. I can see past how annoying he is, but that doesn't mean I should like him for how he acts. To me, NT Dante is a stupid-sounding ass who thinks he's awesome. Even if he had all the best intentions in the world (or a horrible past), it would not make me like his crappy personality. That's not short-sighted, that's just me wanting a likable character in personality as well as standpoints and actions.

Plus the word weeaboo exist because anime fans can be totally ****tarded and you know the ones I'm talking about.

And I see nothing wrong with Dante's haircut. It's a normal freaking haircut. He's got a fauxhawk thing going on and it's pretty cool. I've gotten my hair cut in a similar way before. Didn't think it was considered a drughead look. I don't think I look like one either.

*I'm not talking about the strength of writing, I'm talking about how stupid it is. DMC has never had excellent writing, but DmC's 'f*ck you' being used five or six times in total just suggests to me that the writers have no idea how to make the dialog even the slightest bit amusing. I'd rather have those old tropes of Dante looking in a mirror saying how handsome he is, and taunting Cerberus in a Bruce Lee type of way. That kind of thing is better than just going 'hey, let's make him literally verbalize how cool he is' or 'let's throw the words 'f*ck you' in there five times'.
However, I do like Dante's comeback of ''you're an asshole!'' after Mundus said his name (even though it could've been acted out better by Dante's VA).

*You're missing my point. I don't care about swearing in video games - in fact, I encourage it. But I do care that DmC thinks it's funny and/or original. They probably thought it was funny to make Dante write 'f*ck you' on a guest list. I don't find it shocking at all, and it's not funny or cool either. And it doesn't suddenly become funny the fourth or fifth time the word is used in the game.
Something similar happens in The Witcher 2, where everybody seems to swear at least once every time you talk to them. In case they're not swearing they sound angry or depressed, and it's annoying because it doesn't come across as natural - to me, it just seems like a cheap way to sound cool or 'mature', in the words of the developer of The Witcher 2.

*I know what the word weaboo means. I'm just saying it sounds like a childish word meant to generalize people instead of looking at individual cases.

*I'm not saying Dante looks like a drughead for specifically his haircut. I just don't like his haircut - it makes him seem too normal for the world he is in, and aside from that, it's just my opinion on which hairstyles look nice and which don't. I have fairly long hair myself, and it fits the shape of my face. I think DmC Dante's face needs medium long hair to look good. Drughead is perhaps a bit strong, but I mean he looks like he's poor, and like he doesn't shower. He wears a ragged coat (sort of), has kind of rough hair, and wears a white wifebeater or whatever you call it. It just looks boring, and the state of his clothes suggests he lives under a bridge somewhere... or in a trailer, obviously. I don't really care for that look, but that's just my opinion. We have different opinions... so what.

They didn't do it "to make the game cooler!" F#cking at all! Get that through your head, dude. Jesus H. Tap-dancing Christ. You're making grand assumptions about the game and then criticizing it for them. And that stupid bit about how he should write on the bouncer's face? That's incredibly retarded, because it clashes so much with his established personality.

Dude says he's not on the list? He punches him out, writes something down on said list. "F#ck you" for telling me I'm not on the list like a smug prick.

Dante is clever and has no time for people's sh!t, what he did is perfectly fine with who he is.

I'm honestly beginning to think you have no understanding of what okay writing might be. DmC is not some literary masterpiece, but it certainly isn't some B-movie schlock. You know how many incredible stories use expletives consistently? MANY. Why? Because the writers aren't afraid to use words that are legitimately authentic, and didn't compromise the integrity of the story for the sake of not hurting someone's virgin ears. It's not "lazy" to use a word that people out in the world legitimately use.

And hell, I dunno if you know this, but lots of cities have large groups of people who swear freely. It's even more apparent in the UK because they have less stringent rules of swearing even on TV.

Goddamn, did you have a problem with Grand Theft Auto V's incessant use of "nigga" too? I hated it, but damn is it accurate if you've ever been anywhere near people and places like that in the States, and I respect the writing for being authentic.

Let's also remember that "F#ck" makes up a whopping like 3% of all the dialogue in the game, and sometimes it's used emphatically (which many people do, myself included). You're literally bitching about an infinitesimal sum that makes up the whole.

Well, I think they could've made Dante not only cool in what he does, his views and what he has gone through, but also cool in how he speaks and moves and so forth. So I'd say your argument is invalid. I can see past how annoying he is, but that doesn't mean I should like him for how he acts. To me, NT Dante is a stupid-sounding ass who thinks he's awesome. What? No my argument is not invalid. You can't accept what's there, and can't even accept how he's supposed to be. It's not Ninja Theory's fault that Dante doesn't live up to the image you have in your own head. That's your goddamn fault.

If they did try to that, then everyone would simply think he's a "try hard" again. They still do because they believe whole-heartedly that it was something that was written into his character, when it was not an aim to write him as actually "trying to be" anything. He's a dude who just wants to live a pleasureful life while constantly being hassled by demons. He's gained himself an sardonic attitude to make up for how sh!tty his life is at times.

I'm going to be completely honest right now, and I say this as a guy who loves Devil May Cry as a whole - the classic Dante is a try-hard. I think people have just been so blinded by the slapdash writing the series has had to actually see it.

Now now, unclench your sphincters while I explain. Devil May Cry had its roots in what equates to B-movie action stuff. The silliness of most of it was what make it so fun. Dante himself, he does cool stuff, but he's also a gigantic dork for all the lame lines and dumb puns he makes. He actually undercuts his own coolness with his inane chatter. But that's okay! Dante is a fun-loving guy, and it worked well for the classics because we all just wanted to have fun.

DmC is different (the entire point, mind you), and instead of just being okay with the B-movie dorky hero that was the fun-lovin' classic Dante, they made a character who would actually have visible depth, and seem like an actual person that people could relate to on some level - the classic became exceedingly unrelatable on any deep level as the series went on.

Neither Dante is bad. Lemme say that again - NEITHER DANTE IS BAD. They fulfill different roles for games with different narrative tones. The classics are a zany romp of demon killing fun and fighting evil, while the Ninjaverse is about a more serious struggle in an oppressed world. The versions of Dante in each fit perfectly with the setting they exist in.

Much in the same way Tameem once said classic Dante wouldn't fit in DmC's setting (laughed out of a common bar), the same could be said for DmC Dante not quite fitting in with the classic's setting.

You are defending some of the most juvenile and puerile writing in a video game, I can't believe you are saying that. I don't think the other examples are better but DmC is not an example of 'ok writing' in that many places, much less the ones that involve the word f#ck. You're right, it's not a masterpiece, but they were trying to make it one, to elevate the writing to the same prestige as film or literature and they used the word fu@k in the most childish of ways.

Punching a bouncer has been done and it's been done better. The scene is there to make him look cool, its another example of a power fantasy. The best way to write that scene would've been to not have it at all.

If Dante really doesn't have the time to deal with people's s#it it would been a much less staged ordeal, it would have been a simple 'you can't--' *punch* and he walks in. Instead there is a whole ordeal of walking in a hurry, stop, you can't go in, pause, punch, catch board, write 'fuc# you' on the page, drop on guy, one liner, smile, keep walking. Doesn't sound like he's in much for been in a hurry.

Y'know what? I'm done with this :/

I'm sick of people just not willing to accept the legitimately more serious tone the game is setting up, which actually makes the sardonic humor stand out as worth something. I'm not defending juvenile writing, I'm defending writing that's different than what everyone is apparently used to with the classic series. It's embracing it's Mature rating and actually bothering to make use of content to set its tone.

Y'know what is juvenile? Dante's retardedly out of place sexual innuendo upon receiving Lucifer, or Gloria's entire entrance. "Hey, have some sex jokes for no reason!" At least the humor DmC had was small joking asides instead of trying to turn it into a spectacle.

Pardon Ninja Theory for just trying to make the writing worth something, instead of simply a bridge between action sequences.

God, you make it sound like DmC is f#cking Duke Nukem Forever...

People really misunderstand the whole notion of "Creating art", the game is beautiful, it has real thought and vision behind its world and level design. Creating art doesn't always have to be some thought provoking narrative; I mean really how would that even be possible with an action game where your goal is to style on demon.

Anyway, in the case of DmC, the following things really do elevate it to art in many regards or at least make it stand out as something original and unique amongst the dreary landscape of most triple AAA action games.

- The rich and vibrant world design; a staple unique to Ninja Theory's work because they have an amazing art director.

- The layers of subtext about consumerism and propaganda, no they're the most "mind blowing", but they add texture to the world and make it feel more alive.

- The great use of cinematic camera angles, dynamic music, and rich sound design to enhance actual gameplay.

- The beautiful attack animations and how they subtly capture the personalities of the characters who use them.

- Dante's attacks are wild and unrestrained; and his devil trigger represents the anger that resides within him beyond his facade of nonchalance.

- Vergil's attacks are calm and thoughtful; and his deviltrigger represents the dark duality of his character.

In conclusion, my overall point is that art doesn't just mean the story by itself, especially in a medium like video games, but rather its the the total encapsulation of everything that makes the game what it is: the world design, the gameplay, the music, the animations, and finally the story.

You know, why the hell do some people here call DmC juvenile but we had quite a few of those same people actually enjoy Duke Nukem Forever? .........wut

I always remembered Duke Nukem pretty much ripping off one liners from older movies while being his testosterone fueled male power fantasy stereotype and borderline parody.

Duke Nukem Forever had seriously just juvenile and bad humor.

-In Forever you can pick up a pack of cigarettes and it says F@gs on it with a picture of a gimp.
-You find these two virgin girls who are trapped and basically getting raped by aliens and they're like "Duke what's happening?!" He responds, "Looks like you're just.....f#cked." Right before they explode.
-They also let you fling around a turd for no damn reason whatsoever. There's no point to any of it.

Hmmm, some high quality humor right there. I know Duke wasn't the most high brow of entertainment but, it wasn't games that had stuff like that.

*cough* I-I thought the Lucifer scene was clever, funny and lighthearted tbh. It gave me a chuckle that's for sure XD

I prefer the writing from the classics over DmC. DmC's writing overall felt awkward and rubbed me the wrong way. Yet again that's just me.
Does it make it bad? God no. Just coming from a different perspective tis all.

That's totally fine. You're allowed to like what you want. My favorite Devil May Cry line ever will still always be "I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with light!"

I love that 5eva.

It's just like I said earlier, context.

I suppose this is something, too. Instead of me just tossing up my hands and giving the whole discussion a F#ck It Adjustment, I should ask what exactly constitutes to DmC's "juvenile writing," to acquire some clarification. The utterance of "F#ck" does not instantly render something juvenile. Period.

I think people are letting their opinions be painted too much by 12-year-old CoD kids who do simply swear to sound tough. Few remember that it's not the words that actually make a character seem tough, sometimes their words are just words.

*cough* I-I thought the Lucifer scene was clever, funny and lighthearted tbh. It gave me a chuckle that's for sure XD

This I can respect - it's not your cup of tea, but you aren't decrying it all simply because of that.

Lucifer's acquisition can certainly be found as funny, I chuckled the first time too. Upon thinking back on it though, I found it made so little actual sense, I just don't get the correlation of an energy spear weapon and passin' out hot dickings. Is it that he impales 'em? Because that's a really weak link :/

Out of all the fun that I like about the classic series, Lucifer's acquisition and Gloria's entrance were just way too out of place, even for the fun-loving series. Possibly because it wasn't about fun, but sex, and I don't think that works very well for DMC, where everything was mostly asexual. DMC4's writing I suppose really rubbed me the wrong way, it got away from what made DMC3's so good >.<

Oh I think I missed that post. Let me check it out...

*reads post*

...

Aliens screwing virgins and guys throwing around random turds.

And people like this over DmC?

...

I-I'm in no postion to judge people so I'm just gonna let that go.

Different strokes for different folks I guess? Maybe people find something special in turd slinging. Something I don't see XD

Wait isn't that the one that mentioned something about a glory hole?
