Let's say you're a huge fan of deadpool, until one day someone comes along and reboots deadpool as the punisher. Woah hey, you're upset? It's the clothing, isn't it? Just because it isn't bright red any more? Jeez you fanboys are so entitled, you just can't see past a color he's the same character! He shoots up bad guys, he has one-liners, in fact I think he's better than the old character because deadpool was kinda silly and nobody took him seriously. I mean, bright red clothing, guns, and katanas? Jeez you weeaboos and your stupid anime tropes, how's it feel worshipping inuyasha in a ski-mask.
Lots of nasty words from both sides about which character is clearly superior, or how they're not actually that different, or how people are only disagreeing because I secretly hate gay people (this was literally someone's logic on why I disagreed with them, I couldn't make stupid **** like this up) .
But nobody really has any patience for the question: why make deadpool the punisher? Why not just make two different characters? They both have strong fanbases, both with pretty different tastes in what they like in an action hero. So why does one need to stop existing so the other one can take his name and his place?
Classic dante (all versions, even DMC1 dante) was loved as a character, there were seriously huge followings of people who worshipped dante but didn't even play the game. Now replace that character with the exact opposite of everything he stood for, and then make fun of that fanbase for ever liking him in the first place.
If this game was the heavenly sword sequel tameem so desperately wanted it to be, it wouldn't have gotten a fraction of the hate.
