As a side thought: do rapists even think that when they rape a woman, she could become pregnant? Or is that what they want? That's disgusting if that is also on their agenda.
Turning an already horrific experience into a 9 month bodily violation with all sorts of mental and physical complications thrown in; an unwanted child put there by a violent thug, and then years of raising the product of rape, and being reminded of the attack by looking at the child must be unbearable.

I think that depends on the situation. Generally I'd say no, I'd also say that when it happens these guys are not even thinking ten minutes down the line, never mind 9 months. They're not even thinking say, in the case of sexual harassment/rape in familiar situations how awkward and difficult it's going to be the next time they see their victim. I think the sexual urges usually are a different thing from the wanting to reproduce, as we've said it's usually about control and power in humans.

In some cases it's totally deliberate that they rape with the intent to cause pregnancy. Especially in war situations. A recent one where that happened was the Bosnian War in the 90s. There was systematic mass rape by both Serb and Croat soldiers, intended to ethnically cleanse by way of 'spreading their own seed' among the losing side.

I think I may still get a verbal beat down from the "I can wear what I want" crowd. And I am not denying anyone the right to dress as they please - I was just wondering why someone would deem it necessary to wear barely-there clothing if they don't want others staring or checking them out.

Sure, you can wear, do, say whatever you want - but assume a little responsibility. I am not saying men and women should not dress to impress, but sometimes dressing in little more than your birthday suit is going to confuse people and lead to snap judgments which cause more harm than good.

I didn't actually think people out there were dumb enough to assume if someone's showing some skin they want to be forced on, but from what some of my female friends have said, there are people who think it means exactly that.

I don't think it's something people should side with the horndogs on. Men can wander about topless and they are no less gawped at, but they're not as likely to get groped or raped for it (although I do have gay friends who say the same thing about men who can't keep themselves in check, some men are just... eurgh, period) so I don't think women should be. The assumption "a woman" is/should be fair meat for it just doesn't sit well with me.

But then like the expensive car analogy, it makes sense not to drive it and leave it round the dodgy parts of town if you don't want it stolen. What society should be and what it is are different things - tempting fate by naivete or stupidity is one thing, but saying "well you deserved it" is sort of another. Not saying that's what you meant at all, just what I think about people who say "she asked for it".

Yep, it's true and it's a shame people, especially women, have to be wary of what they wear, where they go and who they go with in case they are attacked or raped.

On a side point, I know people say if you wear more 'modest' clothes then you'd have less unwanted and dangerous attention, but what about places where women are expected to cover up their bodies/ dress more conservatively, and men are still beating and raping them. In those cases, wearing revealing clothing has nothing to do with the attacks. Some people are just sickos who like to do terrible things to people.

It's a lose lose situation. Cover up or wear revealing clothing, either way, some weirdo will do something regardless.

I think the fates have decreed that I will not be playing this Strider demo. This is my third attempt downloading it. My third round with the accursed % symbol:mad:
Actually I would like to put the inaccurate estimate of X minutes left in the same boat as the evil % symbol

I hate that there's insanity potential in all beings with a brain.

I hate that there's mental problems.

I hate that there's disease.

I hate that there's pain and suffering.

I hate that I can hate something.

Agreed - I suppose I should have clarified however, because when I talk about dressing, I don't mean it in a context of sexual assault. More towards those who moan that some guy is checking out their cleavage when they have purposefully clothed themselves in little more than a push-up bra. It just seems, to me, a bit troll-y.

Naturally (regardless of my own personal history with this subject), if someone is dressed in a certain way they are by no means a free buffet for anyone and I don't think any sane person would think that either. I guess anecdotally, I have been to clubs in the past with girls who have intentionally dressed like they belong in Amsterdam's red light district, danced as erotically as possible (often with one another in plain view of a man they wanted) and then complained when people stared or commented on their outfits. It just confuses me a little, I suppose.

It confuses me that they would and be surprised people look, (people look in any case?) but I don't think I've ever even encountered that. I worked the bar in a nightclub for a couple years and I saw a lot of skimpy outfits... not much complaining from the wearers about the attention they got, but I also saw a lot of men who thought it was okay to come and drop ice cubes down cleavages and try to retrieve them, and other dumb stuff, which is not the kind of attention they wanted. I mean anyone who wears the most revealing outfit ever and gets ****y when people stare has got to be trolling... but all I ever seemed to see was people trying to touch them, or trying to make an excuse to touch them, which would annoy anyone. And they did get angry about that, which I get.

I would guess there's a few strange types who enjoy confusing people and then getting them thrown out of club or something though.

CT:
Not around as much. I've got a fault with my internet connection (which won't be fixed until tomorrow... maybe).
If you live in the UK and wonder why you don't see many (if any) BT vans around, they tell you what to do over the phone. I had to wrestle the plastic case off the wall, and plug everything into the 'test socket'... it's still really no better.

Nite.is.PREGNANT! (I didn't want to post all of that in caps... I don't want to make myself look anymore insane than what I am...lol). Well, she can be now with a DS morph that I never knew I had...

Mum: I've gone the whole day without being insulted
Me: (jokingly) You're a b*tch...
Mum: *laughs* Thanks, but I meant by your father
Me: Aww. Well, I didn't want you to be disappointed.
