Ninja theory has completely gotten it wrong, DMC does not need a reboot, all what DMC needs is simply an upgrade to get everything back in order. All they needed to do was work on improving the game play and the story and everyone would be happy, instead they change the world, the main character(the way he looks and sounds) and the visual style of the game. What they are doing is pointless and a complete waste of time.

And to the people who think that there is nothing wrong about changing the way that dante looks in the game, to many of the DMC fans out there, playing a DMC game with dante looking, sounding and acting completely different is like for instance watching a batman movie with batman wearing a mini skirt.

Nice...

I agree completely with Vampi in terms of the reboot. People who like the reboot should stop acting like those who dislike it are being immature. Is it so immature to want the characters you grew up with rather than some 'recreation's of those characters tha are nothing like the old ones. People act like anyone who speaks out about the reboot in a negative way is being childish. Hardly. We as fans didn't want a reboot, we wanted DMC5 with the characters we all know in them.

Some people say that the reboot is like the Nolan films in that it's a revamp of the series to modern times. However this is very different from that. For one thing, DMC didn't even need a reboot in the first place. Secondly at least in the Nolan films Batman was still Batman. Here Dante is practically a different character.

And to those who say that fans of the old characters should just go back and play the originals, I just wanna say that we as fans wanted a continuation of those characters, not to just keep reliving the past. to the fans of the reboot, I kindly ask you, didn't any of you want to know what happens to Dante after DMC2? Or if Vergil is still alive? Or where Nero came from? Because if you do, then you can understand where we as fans are coming from. This new reboot is preventing that from happening. I mean, if this is successful, Capcom probably isnt going to go back to the originals. And this is why alot of people including me are upset about this reboot.

I'm trying to like this reboot, I really am. But it is hard to like something which has high potential to bring about the end of what we grew up with. I am still excited for this reboot and am willing to give it a chance, but it still upsets me.

^Huh. That is a better comparison, I must admit. And I personally liked those Craig Bond films, so maybe I'll like this, so long as it doesn't halt the old series......

Same. In fact, Casino Royale in particular is easily my favorite Bond film. And I can say that if the game turns out bad, I'll be with the haters from then on. But the jury's still out and we're still at the beginning of something very strange to the series.

Actually, I'd say that as far as reboot comparisons go, the Bond reboot is what I keep going back to, mentally. Why? Because of the fanbase reaction parallels. :( Folks were really being negative about Daniel Craig as Bond at first. Why? Because he was blonde and apparently ugly (which I think a lot of women would disagree with) >_<

Yah but it staid true to Bond's character, bad ass womanizing spy. It also staid true to the source material for the movie, the first James Bond Novel (more so than the previous Casino Royale Movie). So even though Bond's appearance changed his characterization didn't change, and they also staid quite true to the Novel... Plus there have been how many James Bonds?

The comparison I always make for a good reboot is the new Star Trek movie, because this was able to recreate a new Star Trek story while keeping things that previous fans liked, like all the characters being true to their characterizations (good job casting directors). So best of both worlds (new setting + old new feel).

Well, we've only seen ONE teaser trailer about the DmC reboot. We're not fit to say if Dante is staying true to the past Dante. We know he's smoking and that he has some mental issue... that's about it.

True, but then again, we don't know much about DmC's plot so far, and there's a lot left that we still don't know. It may turn out the same way for DmC that it did for Casino Royale. And Bond wasn't exactly Bond yet in that film, like Dante in the trailer. Bond was practically trigger-happy in the film, shooting a potential informant (on another country's embassy grounds no less) for example. Dante smokes, but who's to say that he won't kick the habit before the game's done, or by DmC2's time (if there IS a DmC2  )?

If you knew about the original vision for Dante created in DMC1 you'd also know the new one was walking all over that vision in that teaser trailer - most especially the smoking thing, since they put so much focus on it in the trailer. It was almost broadcasting how unlike the previous and original Dante he is.

I'm not saying the games after 1 got it spot on or anything, but there was certainly more than enough of the character left to identify him without him having to say what his name was.

That teaser trailer should be enough to at least identify the main character of the game.

Take for example Metal gear solid 4, the main character was older by more than 30 years, yet the fans of the series were able to recognize and relate to him immediately even though he had a different hair color, wrinkled skin and back problems.

Snake is just that awesome though ;)

And yes...we only had one teaser trailer. There may be plenty more coming out as the game progresses further.

MGS4 wasn't a reboot though. It was a continuation of the series. This DmC, however, is a reboot where they have changed Dante's look drastically, but still with a few elements from his past incarnation, such as a red coat, the white patch of hair, a silver and a black gun etc. They are few, but they are there.

And then they have added some totally new elements - like him smoking, being quite younger and skinnier, his hair being mainly dark and shorter than we are used to, his weapon changing shape and such - to show that it is indeed a reboot!

The negative reaction that the game is getting is not because it is a reboot but because most of the fans of the series feel that the main character in the game was altered in a way that they do not like.

I do not mind the game having a reboot that much, the biggest problem is having a Devil may Cry game with Dante Not Dante(and i do not just mean how skinny and evil he looks), you can change anything you want in the game but not the Character that fans have grown to like.

That is why i used MGS4 as an example, Despite how the main character looked so different he was still the same.

You are basing your theory of new Dante looking evil and skinny (he´s not that skinny, but he is still quite young in there so i think you wouldn´t like to see him like a pig) on one teaser trailer.
He basically said nothing in that trailer, just : My name is Dante, and you´re judging that he is evil because of that?!
Dude, calm down.We have seen only one trailer and you´re already talking about changing anything in game.

Well, apparently you can, and that's what they have done. So it is up to the individual fan to accept the change or not, however, there's not really anything any of us can do about it. They have changed Dante.

We have only had this one trailer to base our opinions from yet, so I hope we will see more soon so we can find out -how- much they have actually changed him.

When ever i see Dante in this trailer, he looks a lot like a vampire to me(I do not mean twilight), Vampires were always described the same way in books or movies, they are skinny and evil. I did not mean that Dante will be evil, i just used that as an attempt to say that i thought he looked like a vampire.(Which clearly was a failure cause i know now what any person reading it will understand so I am sorry for that).

You can also jump off a mountain but we all know how that will end.

I know that are ones who like Dante's new look and i am not blaming them for it, all i want to say is some of us liked Dante's look before and feel that they have been let down again by CapCom that is all.

You sound like you think we don´t like old Dante´s look.
You don´t have to choose always, you can like both of them, like me and Asmo i suppose ^_^.

Indeed. Those who doesn't like this reboot keep making it seem like that those who -do- like it are now hating the past games and the past Dante's look. I don't know about the others, but it is not the case for me at least.

I too would like to see a continuation of the past series, as I have mentioned MANY times before on this forum, however, it is not going to happen in the near future if at all.

However, I find it quite unreasonable that some people think that because it is a reboot equals that it is going to suck. It won't be like playing the past games, that much I agree with, but it still doesn't mean that DmC will turn out to be a bad game. With that said, it could definately turn out to be a complete flop, but in reality, none of us knows how it will turn out! So by pre-judging it like that is just idiotic in my opinion.

I think we proved that we do like old Dante too.
As for continuation, DMC 4 was not a good move from Capcom.
With that story that came out of nowhere they just left thousand plotholes which can´t be filled with just one game.
Nero wasn´t a good move (which of course doesn´t mean i don´t like him), they could´ve explained his history in DMC 4.
I don´t think this reboot will include Nero, he just doesn´t fit in.

So, filling the plotholes will have to wait some more.
