So far, don't the weapons seem less unique and interesting than those present in previous DMC's?

what are you even talking about just because you didn't use them doesn't mean other havent i use Artemis everytime i play and seen many people use Nevan.....
I'm not talking about DMC3 combo videos, I'm talking about regular play. When you were trying to beat the game on your first or second playthrough, did you use Nevan for more than 1/2 of a mission before you realized how weird it was compared to everything else?
Of course, we all have used Nevan afterwards, when we got better, and wanted to mix it up, but no one really used Nevan outside of combo videos. Not to say that Nevan isn't a cool weapon, it's a freaking Demon Guitar and I think it has the best weapon intro period.
If you did use Nevan, on your first playthrough instead of using Cerberus or Agni and Rudra, then I applaud you for using a complicated weapon, but you are a small minority.
As for Artemis, I have never found a single person in my entire life, be it a walkthrough in the internet, someone I know, or anyone on this forum that actually used Artemis. I think that it is the worst weapon in DMC3.

The problem to classic dante is his fashion. It's just way too over the top.
His face is fine since most people would assume that he is just an handsome albino anyway.

He's over the top in fashion because that's what Japanese culture relates to. Its thoroughly a Japanese thing.

But Western over-the-top is different. DmC Dante is over the top because he drinks, has sex and swears

Really i liked artemis more than any other gun in the game besides ebony and ivory

Mind going into a bit of detail as to why you feel that way?
Because these weapons feel cool. When you use the the weapons you can feel the heaviness behind it and its impact wheras in DMC you never get a sense of weight or impact. The old weapons were great and over the top but these weapons have just as cool designs. What it all comes down to is personal opinion but I see no reason to say the old weapons were better or worse...

Whether they are better or worse is a matter of personal opinion, however, that the weapons from prior games are more imaginative and creative is something of a given. Look at Osiris and Arbiter for instance, though they do look rather cool, their basic method of attack is fairly utilitarian, Osiris just slashes quickly, and Arbiter is just the average big slow weapon that hits hard and generates shockwaves.......almost all fighter games in a somewhat similar vein have a weapon like that, it lacks imagination.

While as mentioned in prior games there were triple ice nunchucks, guantlets with minitature bunker piles in the wrist and buzz saws on the greaves that used martial arts, or twin talking swords that controlled fire and wind simultaneously.

If Osiris did something like make you teleport around the enemy as you comboed or some other unique ability rather than just being "Slash, slash, slash, the blade I hold slashes" I would not be as bothered.

I love how you say Osiris just slashes, yet you say the others are different.

Cerberus just smacks people

The gauntlets just hits people.

All you are doing is judging the past weapons by looks. Yes Cerberus was a three stick nunchauck but all it did was hit people and make ice. The gauntlets work exactly like the gauntlets do in DmC, but you seem to not see that.

Also, you can teleport with an angel weapon. It's called "angel evade" and if they made it that if you had osiris you can teleport, then what would be the point of angel evade, and why only on osiris? Why not all angel weapons?

then maybe its just me and im crazy and im talking about the "if dante walked into a bar he would get laughed out" comment never really liked Tameen he can be a bit of a jerk imo

It's just you. They don't have the same nose, chin, or cheekbones. The complain isn't even viable at this point because Dante looks like his actor. His "bar" comment is also true. For the much more contemporary, grounded setting they crafted, the classic Dante, with his flamboyant style, just doesn't fit. That's just the plain truth of it, here in the West, people who dress like that get funny looks in "regular" places.

This also comes into play with the contemporary setting DmC has, the more outlandish and over-the-top designs of past DMC games would just be an awkward mix. There are probably plenty of designs that they went through, but this game as a theme and a setting to adhere to, so they can't just slap in whatever fancy, crazy-looking weapon they think up.

And what's wrong with them being utilitarian? A weapon needs to have a proper function, and having weapons for different situations like a wide-angle scythe and a crushing battleaxe isn't a bad thing. They all have applicable uses, and that's perfectly fine.

In those terms, I think it's being compared far too much to something like DMC3 where you could choose a four weapon arsenal, and everything could work. That's not really applicable for DmC because everything is at your fingertips at all times. Yes, yes, we know how cool it is to have your very own arsenal and still play just fine, but that's not what DmC is doing, and it's just as cool to have everything available to you for creating free-form combos whenever you feel like it.

Because all the weapons "should" work differently. Cerberus smacked people, yes, and had a fairly large variety of ways it could do so, but it also created Ice, spikes of ice, encasing the player in ice. It had unique qualities based on it's element that went beyond "Just hitting people". In DMC4 the guantlets hit people, but they had other effects as well, for instance their ability to charge, and if you released the button just as it flashed from reaching the charge the damage would be doubled, on a side note in every DMC the gauntlets have focused on martial arts.......DmC is just slow punching, far less stylish.
Their basic mechanics in combat are thus quite different, and I cannot understand how you could say they "Work exactly the same".

A whole messadis!

Also, while the Eryx gauntlets may not look the best, I still like their design, because you can still see the Rebellion design in them; the sword's spiraling hilt design is on the forearms of the weapons, and I love that they are just metal glowing orange with heat. Oh, and what's not unique about these being the first gauntlets to project a phantom fist during charged hits? I think that's pretty cool, and somewhat of a nice homage to the Devil Bringer.

Oh, and here's something else - people complain about not having Air Trick in DmC, but that's exactly what Angel Lift is, it's just not a teleport, and now it has an optional follow-up attack to it :p

And the problem with it being utilitarian is that that is counter intuitive to the imagination and style that so defined prior iterations.....but maybe that is just my opinion.

I may be a minority here, but I think the mechanics for DmC work better than previous DMC's. The only thing that screws me over is the auto lock-on... but to be fair, the auto lock-on also lets me focus on combo's rather than dodging.

EDIT: As far the weapons go, I love them. They're all unique from one another, and they all serve a different purpose.

YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW THE WEAPONS "SHOULD" WORK DIFFERENTLY, BUT MOMENTS BEFORE WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW OSIRIS HAS QUICK, WIDE SLASHES AND ARBITER HAS SLOW HEAVY CRUSHING ATTACKS - WAYS THAT THEY WORK DIFFERENTLY

*ahem*

Having elemental weapons is super cool and all, but we just don't have that in DmC. And as I mentioned above, the Eryx have a cool little effect when charged, and every chargeable attack has a Just Charge effect to it when releasing just as it charges. DmC's gauntlets are also breaking the mold of being martial arts based because this Dante, as mentioned many times, doesn't have his refined style like in the classic series, he fights much more like a street brawler.

The basic mechanics of weapons really ARE NOT that different. You just don't like the changes that were made.

In almost every fighting game ever envisioned where multiple weapons can be used, there is a weapon that deals less damage but attacks quickly, and one that moves slowly but deals heavy damage, can you honestly say that is not the case?. Rate of attack and level of damage is not truly "working different" it is merely sliding a few scales, what I mean is they should have unique mechanics aside from their rate of attack and physical power, something to make them distinctly DMC.

And street brawling is more cool and stylish than martial arts?

I know, that's why I mentioned looking at that side-by-side picture. Even there, 2010 Dante and Tameem have different facial structure. The only similarity at the time was their mohawks, which were common of the punk movement which Dante was modeled after :/

So you don't think they could have come up with imaginative moves and abilities for the weapons while maintaining the contemporary setting? And the problem with it being utilitarian is that that is counter intuitive to the imagination and style that so defined prior iterations.....but maybe that is just my opinion.

There are some pretty cool abilities that the weapons have. Osiris' Prop Shredder is really cool because it makes use of the grips coming off the snaith, and its Rake ability is really imaginative - stretching down and scooping up enemies from the ground, with the upgraded version creating a whirlwind below Dante to blast more enemies up. Arbiter's Trinity Smash creates two phantom Dante's to come down in succession after Dante's initial final attack to add in two more hits, owing to the skills name. Eryx's charged up phantom fists are also pretty cool. The Aquila's Buy In move that pulls in all the enemies is really cool and imaginative for a shuriken weapon, and its Tornado is just...fancy. I also loved Rainstorm, and when I saw Inverse Rainstorm, I fell in love all over again.

There is the fact that the weapons are otherworldly but they're not supposed to be completely out-of-this-world crazy. Dante still uses them like normal weapons, for the most part. I love how Dante gracefully uses Osiris, and if the scythe was used in some unorthodox way, I'd be very disappointed.

And when you really look at it, no weapon in the DMC series was every used in a way that was not congruent to its design. All the swords slash, all the guns shoot, all the gauntlets and greaves punch and kick, and then they toss in some really cool stuff somehow, like A&R's Firestorm.

Which they have - Osiris has Feed, so it slowly builds up its attack power as it is used successively. Arbiter busts through shields, and otherwise blasts enemies away when they get hit to create some breathing space. Each weapon also has uses outside of combat, like carving up vines or smashing brittle walls. How else is something supposed to "work differently" other than the actual functions a weapon is supposed to have; power, speed, reach, and additional effects? Seriously, in what way can a weapon "work differently" like you keep saying?

And street brawling is more cool and stylish than martial arts?

I didn't say that at all, that's just...why the Eryx are used differently. It's part of this Dante's "rough around the edges" style, same with how his Rebellion animations show a lot more force behind his swings, because he stumbles on the follow-through. This Dante just has a different kind of style that the classic did.

Dude, the Eryx can charge too Y'know. And cerberus made ice or not, it's still a weapon that "smack smack smacks" like Osiris can "slash slash slash"
