Well you said "A person can't hate or love a character without fully knowing them" and you gave a compliment to DmC Dante, even though there hasn't been all we've seen of him.
Bullshit. You can hate Kat or Dante from the new DMC if you want to; we've seen plenty of footage. I can already tell the general direction they're going with Kat (or any other character, for that matter) anyway, so that's why I don't like the character.
''How can you hate a character you know nothing about''? Seriously? Have you watched all the trailers etc?
Because your opinion about them can change if you got to know more about them.
Say one person played DMC2 first and hated Dante & the game in general but never got to play the others would that be fair to Dante & DMC.
That's true. But what the other guy was saying is that you cannot hate a character based on what you've seen so far. I disagree. Sure, my opinion about the character could change, but I've already seen that Kat, for example, wears a hoodie and shorts. Even something like that can be reason enough to hate the character.
We'll see if my opinion about the character changes, but I don't expect it will, since I've already seen what Kat's personality, outward appearance and image are like. The possible small changes that might occur in that probably won't be enough to make me like the character.
So you'll hate a character if they wear a hoodie and shorts?
You'll hate someone in real life who wears a hoodie and shorts?
You're taking this way too literally. I'm saying I hate the characters from what I've seen so far, not just because of the shorts and the idiotic face Kat's got, though shorts in combination with a hoodie is something that would make me think less of someone.
And do I like the fact that Dante looks sort of like a crackhead and is voiced by a terrible actor? No, I don't.
Tim Phillips isn't a terrible actor....he is pretty good and better than Drew Combs and Matthew something something and for a British actor him trying to speak with an American accent is pretty hard for him and you can see he is struggling but he still sounds pretty great for an American accent. Besides his voice in terms of the portrayal of his voice is based on how the acting director wants to go about it. DMC was more Japanese anime/media based so they used VA who starred in anime/Japanese like shows (Power Rangers/Super Sentai) and guys who have a history with Capcom while DmC's approach is more realistic and serious live action Western based so the VA are usually actual actors who starred in A-rank films maybe S-rank by Britain standards.
Yeah, he deserves credit for being able to produce a very decent Northern US accent, but I think intonation is more important. Remember the trailer in which Vergil was introduced? ''With the two of us working together I believe that we can defeat them'' Followed by Dante: ''So that's what this is about. You need me to fight the demons, helping you save the world.''
And at the end: ''We are brothers, after all''. He just sounds like he doesn't give a ****, and the intonation is all wrong. It should be ''We are brothers, after all (are should be slightly stressed, brothers should be significantly stressed). That's not because of how the acting director wanted to go about it, it's because of incompetence on the part of Tim Phillips - no offense. How do you think Reuben Langdon would do it, or Daniel Southworth?
But it's not just Dante - I haven't heard any great voice acting so far. Of course, I'll wait until the game is released, but if this is the trend, then you can expect more mediocrity.
Yet again its the voice director/acting director duty...if he felt Tim messed up he would've asked to retake that line.
Anyway, I think your looking into this too deeply....I doubt Reuben Langdon can do any better because this is a different portrayal of Dante. VA's are normally selected to do a role that suits them like Reuben can never play Nero neither can Daniel (just judging by his portrayal of DMC3 Vergil) can ever play this Vergil well.
I think the guy who plays Mundus in this game delivers very well, he really sounds convincing as a demon who is very full of himself and puts a lot of emphasis on his insults on when he is trashing Dante or talking down to him and the actor does it so well not to let his black tone and his British accent mix into his voice acting.
I don't see the difference between how the actors play their roles in DmC as compared to DMC3 & DMC4...IMO I thought DMC3's voice acting sounded very unrealistic and Dante though he sounded great felt like Reuben was just reading the lines in a very good punk boy accent and sure he is supposed to portray a guy who doesn't care but at times when Dante was being serious it felt he wasn't really serious just moot and Daniel, maybe it was how the director wanted it or Vergil's portrayal, sounded like he had no passion when reading his lines and it seemed he was struggling very hard to maintain Vergil's voice and overall tends to crack when Vergil's pitch/voice got a bit higher. I think overall Lady & Arkham did their part the best especially in the scene when Lady killed Arkham was the best voice acting in the entire game.....everything else was okay.

Mundus sounds like the typical gangster you see in any cliché movie. Yes, he sounds full of himself, and so, the actor did a good job. However, the character could be a little more unique, in my opinion.
He's suppose to fit in with the normal crowd so he could gain trust.
Reuben Langdon did an excellent job on Dante in DMC3 - sure, it was often cheesy, but that's DMC3. His job on DMC4, though, not so great, but that's because he had to make his voice sound deeper in order to seem older. DMC3 Dante hardly ever was serious - even if he was, there was usually that playfulness hidden in his voice, which Reuben captured wonderfully.
Daniel Southworth also did a good job on Vergil, because he needed to sound like he had no passion - that's Vergil's character. Dante is the emotional, sarcastic one, Vergil the calm and composed sardonic one. Sparda (purple) was a combination of the two, which is why Dante is red and Vergil is blue.
Yeah, Lady's actress always did a great job, especially in that scene. Can't argue with you there
And do I like the fact that Dante looks sort of like a crackhead and is voiced by a terrible actor? No, I don't.
Actors are expected to adapt to the role they are given, that's what acting is all about. If Reuben could only do Dante or Chris from RE5, he wouldn't be qualified to be an actor.
