Origins of the Nephilim

How do people work out which demon it is if they need the right name to get rid of it? Genuinely curious.
You demand it from them. When you command them to tell you they won't, 'cause, who the f*ck are you? But when you command them in the name of the divine or in the name of an archangel they will, they must. They'll fight you for it every step of the way but they will.

Innsmouth is right. Through the ages most demon names have become synonymous with the devil even if they are not. It's like how someone might call any devil 'Lucifer' just because they are devils, it becomes the trend and trend becomes tradition. When you go back to the origins of all these names they are all their own separate entities. It's part ignorance part 'what oder people called them.'

I remember it was mentioned in "Exorcist" book

Yeah, by Peter Blatty. I've only read Legion, which is better than the movie (Not the one about the angels) but I know it's more substantial than the movie.
Oh, so that's what's his name. I don't remember it. It was coupled with Omen in my book gathering

Aren't we talking about the origins of the nephilim and how the DmC should've been made with them?

Like if since the nephilim are giants of angel/human hybrid. They could've said that and that new nephilim are born from angel/demon?

Like I said, it's because the name Nephilim sounds cool.

There is no deeper theological reason. It's the closest, best sounding name they could give them. Look at the uses they have in pop culture, they are always beautiful and more powerful than humans or angels or of some great importance, which is not scripture. They aren't these prolific beings who are beyond ether race, they are giants. The idealization they've received in modern supernatural fiction is why they made them like that in DmC.

Same thing with Dhampir, in their original mythos they aren't these bad asses like Alucard, D or Blade, they are kinda unimpressive.

@Ronin

I choose to look at it from a Deist point of view. Just see how everything weighs against each other -- just for a frame of reference I mean, nothing serious.

"Nephilim":

"Cambion":

What they may or may not have "built":

Sorry, I'm using this "frame of reference" to compare it to DmC and see if I can "interpret" anything else from this "mythos."

Huh.

According to my shoddy knowledge of Christian mythology, I thought that the Nephillim were the children of the fallen angels who slept with human women. And then after that, I believe they were destroyed when the great flood occurred. Not exactly sure.

But in terms of DmC using the term, I'm sure it was just for cosmetic reasons. It's a cool word and it's a cool mythological race.

Pretty much, yop.

Perhaps in DmC, they could've said that a new race of nephilim were born after the originals died in the great flood. This time with angel & demon.

That honestly wouldn't make much sense, appending the racial descriptor of one to something completely different. They just used it because it sounded cool, just like Darksiders did.

Or perhaps nephilim are anything born of an angel and a non-angel entity, similar to how "chimera" in biology is used for something made of multiple, distinct cells.

I don't think there is answer to this question. Just because due to christian mythology it's technically not possible. Any angel that would have slept with demon, would basically branded as Fallen angel. And fallen angel is well...demon. Which basically would make their offspring 100% demon.

Well genetically that wouldn't be the case. Maybe the angel would be branded a demon but that wouldn't change the outcome of the offspring because of the angel's genes.

Umm.. I don't think genetic could be applied , since that would mean that there is no essential difference between fallen and normal angels.

Well if you consider genetic side, that would mean there is no difference between cambion and nephilim. hmmm...
But Christian identification doesn't count in DmC for all we know so I guess that rule wouldn't apply to that world. Although religion does exist in that world as St. Agnes's Church shows. (Place where you fight Tyrant as a miniboss)
