has it been stated conclusively when DMC1 and 4 are set in relation to DMC3, in terms of years passed? I haven't read how far DMC1 is meant to be after DMC3, so what I know about the timeline doesn't seem inconsistent to me yet

I think at this stage we still dont know enough about Nero to really know whether he will be able to replace Dante.

with all the previous titles over the years we've played the games as Dante and therefore have a personal attachment gleaned from that kind of interaction with the player character. I reckon once we get to play as Nero and move through the DMC narrative with him, most of us opposed to him taking Dante's spotlight will probably warm more to the idea of him becoming the series new protagonist.

He cant because if the order dies then whats left for Nero... he doesnt know his family(i think)and if kyrie dies whats left for him to do? I bet after DMC4 the Order dies and maybe Kyrie so he decides to kill every last evil demon in the world. He may join dante maybe, but i cant see him returning in the dmc series if he doesnt join dante..The order and kyrie is his life and i dont see him coming back if they are dead.

from what we know so far, its pretty evident that the order aren't the good guys in the story and he'll wind up on the same side as Dante. think about it, without the Order and without Kyrie[if in fact she does die] he'll pretty much be what Dante was in DMC1, a lone devil hunter ... the Order and Kyrie were his life.

also, Kobayashi wanted a new character to head the franchise, to keep things fresh. I guess it'll depend on how well Nero is received by us[the players] after the game is released as to whether he will continue on as a main character in subsequent installments or whether he'll just act as a "stand-in" for DMC4.

It was said that Dante also killed a close friend of Nero(maybe a childhood friend) so he may not join him.

I still think there is a chance that Nero will transform and the end of his half of the game - and turn into some kind of evil spirit / demon which Dante then has to defeat during his half of the game. Perhaps then Nero would return in other games in that way, as an enemy, or maybe he will be restored at the end of the game, by Dante, and have a debt of loyalty to him after being saved.

thats actually a pretty sound theory Chrysander, Nero becoming consumed by the Devil Bringer.

"power, give me more power"

perhaps Dante will help him to conquer the Devil within and retain the Devil Bringer, so he is then worthy of becoming Dantes successor?

EDIT: phrasing.
