My thoughts after playing through DmC: Devil May Cry

You keep saying you "SSS" every level in DMC4, I don't get it, SSS mission ranks only existed from this DmC. I know it's a detail, but it just bugs me to no end.

The completionist in me came through where I SSS every level on the hardest difficulty and all I'm saying is what you pull off in your videos are nothing I haven't already pulled off.

Who says my videos are about completing missions with high rankings? In fact, all I do is upload gameplay videos showing off what DMC4 (and currently DmC) is capable of in advanced combat, rather than SSS ranking missions because I believe it's a waste of time since you aren't gaining actual skill.

Almost anyone can do that. That's not special at all.

I don't give a f*ck whether you believe me or not because its just a game to me and I'm having more fun with DmC at the moment.

This is what you're literally saying to me:

You: "You talk about DMC like you're an expert, but I'm a better player than you"
Me: "Do you have proof?"
You: "No, I hated playing DMC4. But I don't care if you believe me or not because I don't need to prove it to you. I just know I am better."

And to sum it up, my reaction split into two parts:

The fact that you keep shoving your opinions into arguments vigorously without any decent backing:

oh-please.gif

And the fact that you don't want to prove it to me how you're supposedly the superior player:

I%2Bknow%2Bright%2BEver%2Bsince%2BI%2Bheard%2Bthat%2Bone%2Bthis%2B_62cc17eac6df0601ec5c1c530ec6c4ff.gif

Go ahead and enjoy that lazy piece of crap that shouldn't even be worthy of the Devil May Cry name. I'd rather one of my favorite series go out strong and die instead of see another DMC 4.

I'll keep playing for a long time. At least longer than DmC since I feel I'll probably be bored with it in another 3 weeks or so.

I do believe that in a Hack and Slash the story may be a great addition (like in DMC3), but the gameplay still is the whole point of the game, since the story can only get you so far as the first playthrough.

After all is a game. Gameplay is (or should be) at least the first thing to be considered if you're gonna decide if a game is great or not.

I can't agree with your assessment on storyline importance. If the plot isn't engaging, the characters aren't likeable and the atmosphere isn't palpable I can't work up the effort to get through a game regardless of how well tweaked the gameplay is, unless I'm being paid to do so of course. Of course gameplay is the most important factor of all, but you can't build an ivory tower on a swamp.

I still play through Mad World every once in a while for this reason.

Looks like I rustled your jimmies. Oh lookie here you're decent at a video game, have a f*cking round of applause. All I was saying was that I saw what you've done and you're showing off nothing new or special any other hardcore Devil May Cry player doesn't already know or has already done. A lot of us on the Devil May Cry forum are probably just as good if not better than you because I'm pretty sure we all play and practice with Devil May Cry more than most. I'm just saying from your display of skill in your videos I know I'm better than that.

Just a minor detail. Is like someone going on and on about some favorite artist's life and everything he knows about it, but spelling his name wrong during it's entire speech.
Well, maybe you're just used to the new DmC anyway. Anyway, not going any further on this matter, you really seem to know what you're talking about since you've been playing DMC ever since Kamiya came up with the first concept for the game from that RE4 build or whatever, so you might as well make another walltext highlighting your career as an old school capcom fan who just happens to hold the answers for all the decisions it should make for it's franchises, especially that old tired money cow DMC became right?

Actually, scrap that, I'm actually going further in this subject. You call **** on DMC4 combat system when it gets the best of the previous game and SIMPLIFY it. The same mentality that guides DmC in the first place. Then you go like "oh, I won't acknowledge it's solid combat system" even though it is the freaking core aspect of the game. Oh, it had bland characters and poor story? Guess what game was just like that. Oh no, the Original DMC itself! Level design in it was also pretty bad, since you had to fight inside of freaking corridors quite a lot, and those god damned underwater section that had absolutely no purpose. But guess what, it was still an awesome game. Know why? Because GAMEPLAY.
I'm not even going to mention your opinion on the style system of DMC4, because guess what? It never forced you to cycle through it. You could just pick a favorite and play it like you were in DMC3. And if you hate styles so much, well here's Nero for you, and like you kindly pointed out, plays just like Dante, with swords, guns and all, with no need to cycle through those stupid boring styles.

You still have to cycle your weapons and guns in DmC though, but I guess that won't be a problem to a "natural gamer" such as yourself huh?

It's not like every aspect of DMC4 was utter sh*t except for the combat/gameplay. The story was poor and we had a lot of level backtracking with Dante, but it's not like the story was oh so much below the series standart considering only DMC3 had a actually good story, and it was actually easy to not take DMC4 story seriously at all and just have fun with the game.

To your other points, Dante was likeable for most people, and there are worse main characters than Nero in games(and midia in general) way more popular than Devil May Cry.

Capcom is a company that I like but hate at the same time. They are responsible for some of my personal favorite gaming series like MegaMan. Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil but I I think the difference between me and alot of other fanboys is that they take it way more seriously than I ever did. If I wanted to, I'll insult every single version of Dante and every favorite video game I personally love and its no skin off my bones. I won't praise a lazy lackluster cash grab that DMC 4 is even if its gameplay was solid which ultimately still isn't its saving grace regardless off what you may think. I can't recommend DMC 4 for gameplay alone because every other element in that stupid game such as its obnoxious design choices and stupid decisions just kill the rest of the game's enjoyment as it is all part of the final product.

I adore DMC 1 and 3 and for a pathetic excuse for a game like 4 to come out especially after something as good as 3 then no I won't give it that special f*cking pass you seem to give it. I will bash it because it deserves it. If DmC was that bad then I would bash it as well but DmC isn't one of the bad ones. I'm not even against the original series coming back but as long as they don't give us another DMC 4 or 2. I'm just going with another DmC because it's aiming itself in the right direction that quite frankly deserves to be expanded on more so than the original games which f*cked up majorly twice and had its run. Capcom obviously doesn't give a sh!t about Devil May Cry so why not hand it over to someone else. Even P* doesn't care about Devil May Cry as their off putting a stain on my Metal Gear series and making the sequel to that porn game they had with the WiiU.

My "jimmies" aren't "rustled". I'm just confused on why you think it's ok to pass your opinions as facts. It doesn't make any sense.

And also, I've contributed a lot to the DMC4 community, as well as DmC too. I've offered new things in terms of combat. And I'm sure you didn't watch all of my videos.

Here, I'll list a few videos that most hardcore players said that things that I've discovered were relatively new to them when I uploaded the videos at the time.

Such a bold claim . . . but with no proof.

And again, time spent playing a game =/= Skill. Don't know how many times I have to say this.

Ok, ChaserTech Master of The Universe.

people are just mad cause the game was a big flop...and in regards to DMC 4...it was a masterpiece when it came to its combat...give the on the fly style switching to DMC 3 and you have a perfect game...I understand that story was mediocre in DMC 4 but it made up for it with its gameplay and cut scenes...Gameplay is what DmC does not have...its just your mediocre hack n slash game...face it...the game failed...I rented it...died 5 times in a stage on DMD and still got a SSS...and those deaths were all glitched...and don't get me started with the lame ass cliche story

No DMC game has any sort of clever or original story.

You died 5 times and all times were a glitch? I wonder if someone is lying just to back up their point...

The gameplay of DmC is great, not average by any means, one of the best hack n slashes I've ever played IMO, many others agree. I prefer dmc4, but unlike so many people on this forum, I don't have to go to the most polar opposite opinion if I liked a game slightly less.

Ive had more fun Playing God of War than this...and I detest GOW...at least the stories in the old DMC were somewhat enjoyable...DmC takes its story from so many things its sad...and DmC is just that a hack n slash while DMC is an over the top action game....

Exactly YOU enjoyed the old DMCs, YOU enjoy God of War. Others don't. I hate the story in all DMC games, I think they're awful, but I know others like it so I don't just go around claiming my opinion as fact.

I never stated anything as fact...and the whole over the top thing...hell even your so called developer Tam tam even said that the old DMC's were too over the top

You think Resident Evil 4 is on par with 6? Are you f*cking kidding me? Let me say that again ARE YOU MOTHERFUCKING KIDDING ME?! Resident Evil 4 is the best in the entire series and I've played and beat EVERY SINGLE Resident Evil game. Thing is with Resident Evil is that it always did suffer from its fair share of problems as the formula does not age well. Resident Evil had rather clunky controls and you don't know how many times the camera in RE has been an issue. You shoot at things off screen half the time. Resident Evil adding this over the shoulder view was a welcome change and it played better but and I will get on my knees and thank Resident Evil 4 making my most hated gaming activity escort missions actually tolerable. Thing is with Resident Evil 4 is that it was still aware it was a survival horror game and kept what made Resident Evil Resident Evil.

It's Capcom fault they strike gold and no idea how they did it. Resident Evil 4 was a step in the right direction in terms of how you play but again Capcom has no idea how to keep what made something like 4 so great. 5 was ok at best and the co-op with a buddy is the only way to find a little bit of enjoyment but it tried so hard to be 4 in all the wrong ways. Then 6 comes around and entirely abandons its survival horror roots for a mediocre action game which it should be ashamed because this is the series that coined the term survival horror. To say 4 is a betrayal to the series is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard because how many people will honestly back you up in their right mind saying Resident Evil 4 was bad? I hope nobody. I've been a Resident Evil fan since it first showed up and I've beaten every RE game in existence. Even the bad Gameboy games so I assure you I know Resident Evil. You have no clue what you're talking about.

Geez, relax. It's amazing how you can get all militant about everything. ''RE4 is the best in the series'' is yet another opinion. I don't deal in opinions. I should capitalize this, but I'm not going to do that. You can read.

Yes, RE6 has better gameplay overall. Not as atmospheric and creepy, but its gameplay is still better - the quick time events notwithstanding. The camera angles in the old REs were an essential part of the games. It added atmosphere to them. Though I'll agree it didn't nearly always work. ''Adding this over the shoulder view was a welcome change''. Again, an opinion.

I don't think we disagree at all, I think RE6 wasn't really a Resident Evil game per se. I wrote a review rating it a 68/100 saying the series needs to be reinvented for the sake of remaining Resident Evil. I don't believe RE is even called a survival horror game anymore. If I recall correctly, Wikipedia outright states that it's a drama/action game, which is sad.

That said, RE4 was when RE started going to hell. It was the start of becoming an action game, resulting in RE5 and RE6. There may have been like one moment in RE4 that was actually frightening, but the rest was action. No horror, just survival, apparently.

OPINIONS. Do you understand now? Not everyone agrees with your supposed 'facts'. Everybody has an opinion, so stop saying yours is better. This is going off topic, so I'm not going to respond again. I suggest you do the same, or you might end up locking the thread or getting on ignore lists.

Better gameplay in Resident Evil 6? That game should have been called Hammer Buttons and Wiggle Sticks: The Game. When I traded it in I actually wrote that on the cover and the gamestop guys got a kick out of it and said it was true. The old fixed cameras were sh!tty and doesn't add to the atmosphere if it just becomes annoying on multiple occasions. I've seen games with better camera angles that still pull off survival horror. You don't need that to be scary. No game has ever scared me anyway because I don't scare easy but I have a fancy for the horror genre.

Resident Evil started going to sh!t after 4 but you can't blame 4, you blame Capcom for just not knowing how to keep it great. Resident Evil 4 still was very aware of its survival horror roots even if it did take a shift in the gameplay department but it still played excellent. I don't know anyone who wasn't at least nervous in 4 when you heard the chainsaw rev up and that guy was nowhere in sight. It still knew how to lay on the pressure and tension of being in a bad situation for examples when you're surrounded in that house and the crazy villagers are trying to get in through both floors and you know you don't have ammo for everyone. 4 was a step in the right direction for the series with a dated formula but it's just f*cking Capcom who don't know how to make a good Resident Evil anymore.

You're making it sound like button mashing and stick wiggling is all the game was. It isn't. I don't wiggle sticks all the time when shooting zombies, did you? Overall, RE6's gameplay is more refined, even with the button mashing you often have to do. Resident Evil 5 was also aware of its survival horror roots, I'd say. I enjoyed it about as much as RE4, and more than RE6. It's with RE6 that it started to get worse.

Honestly, I played RE4 again recently, and I realized that the only reason I thought RE4 was creepy at the time was because I wasn't an adult yet. Now that I am, I can see it's not really frightening, except for maybe at the start, when you're coming up to and into the village, when entering small shacks could be unnerving, since enemies could suddenly spring up in front of you if you attempt to leave. I played the part with the house again, and it wasn't hard or frightening at all. They just entered, I gave them all headshots, and then Luis said we should go upstairs. And that was when I'd already killed 95 percent of them.

I hope RE7 (if there's going to be one) will be survival horror again.
