Metal Gear Rising VS DmC

I think the brutality stemmed from Dante burning a Stygian with a cigarette in the 2010 announcement while he had it in a stranglehold. I haven't really seen anything else that was really brutal at all. Can't be Dante getting ran through by the Ravager's chainsaw, what with Dante normally taking impalements like a champ since DMC1 :p

Yeah, there's that... which hasn't been seen anywhere in any of the gameplay footage. Sadly... it would have been awesome. *sobbing sigh*

following that train of thought, I think one clear advantage MGR has over DmC is how MGR approached the pr because they manage to give you a clearer view of the game without the vitriol that DmC suffered from.

if you wanted to defend MGR from its detractors you could while back in DmC's first reveal(2010) you didn't have much to go on other than vague claims. You didn't get much to work with till late 2011-early 2012.

but i mean they are in completely different positions given that MGR feels more of a natural progression of what the series was doing where DmC is out of the left field reboot. Plus MGR feels less sink or swim than DmC.

Well, MGR was also originally announced a while ago, and already had many of its main concepts known, like Zandatsu, before the Platinum reworking. However, I've seen quite a lot of people panning MGR because it isn't another MGS the same way DmC has been panned.

But yeah, DmC started off in an iffy way. I get where they were coming from, trying to show off the new direction they were taking, but there wasn't much beyond that. It also didn't help that rumors were flying and getting everyone's panties in a bunch. Things like dial-a-combo, guns overheating, and even how his hair wasn't white (even though there was the patch of white clearly visible). All completely unfounded, and later revealed to be untrue.

DmC is only "sink or swim" because people are so resistant to change, and refuse to listen when many of the people who have played it say it feels every bit as much like DMC combat :s

Can you specifically point out how DmC's gameplay is less stylish and more brutal compared to past Devil May Cry games?
I think the prop and shredder looks more violent than he old one. and he swings his sword like a crazy person. but he seems to swing Osiris with a lot of style.

Prop shredder doesn't really seem any different to me >.>

When Dante swings Rebellion there's actually some weight behind it, like he struggles, but Osiris is all about momentum, so a lot of what he does is flowing into something else.

The way he fights with Rebellion is that he swings in wide arcs. He wants to get as much demons in that swing as he can, and so he swings with wide swinging style.

With osiris it's almost the same, but he glides on the ground and propels the weapon as if he were doing a dance on the clouds. Such is his angel way.

Arbiter is with heavy struggle and is a weapon for the heavy hitting. He doesn't add style, he just slams it down or brings it up to hack away.

Eryx is straight jab and a personal man to man looking striking of punches, but because the gloves are for big, it gets more enemies. He really puts his whole being into each punch just to make sure he gets a demon good.

I guess these small differences aren't enough for me to consider DmC "brutal". To me it just sounds like nitpicking.

Raiden slices people in tiny pieces and then tears their spine out and crushes it with his hand... Now THAT is brutal, Mortal Kombat style! I wish DmC was more brutal like that.

I don't think brutal per say, I'd more say gritty.

They've frequently said how Dino is more of a brawler and Dante seemed more of a martial artist. Best example would be Gauntlet moves.
But that's just what I imagine people think, regarding Raiden, he is trained and experienced. His animations don't seem to be as amateurish which I suppose translates to some as stylish regardless of what's he's doing to enemies.

Well he switches hands with the scythe and leans in more. Its funny that the new rebellion makes Dante swing off balanced when the sword is smaller than before. And i really dig how smooth Osiris looks in action. Probably the best scythe animations i've ever seen and I love playing as Zasalamel!

Well the enemies don't turn to dust anymore. Their bodies explode! and every attack sends blood and fragments flying. But its nothing like MGR though. I played the demo for a couple hours last night, just replaying the same event over and over, and i got to a point where you come out of a building, and once you set off the alert, all the enemies take the same path over to you. And they jump up the stairs to a waiting Raiden, and i get to slice their heads off with extreme precision! Very fun... not DmC fun... but fun nonetheless

Oh, and Raiden can speed run and attack at the same time. When you speed run and use a wide attack, he slides and flips any enemy around up into the air, and you can stop time, slice them in half, and pull out their electrolytes! Brutal

I honestly think that these things are silly. I'd rather diffirentiate all games unless they are much more similar than DmC compaired to MGR.

In terms of genre they both qualify as hack and slash but the experience they bring to the table are very different so it's not really two games I'd put on a contest.

However if you put a gun to my head and demanded I made a desition I'd provably go for MGR.

Wow! Really? I would of thought you would of hated MGR for being such a huge departure from the MG series. I see you are very skeptical with the way DmC has took the franchise but at least it's not trying to be something else. Perhaps you were never really a fan of MG in the first place, and an action adventure game might suit you better. I was just a little baffled by it.

I played the MGR demo and its seems cool at first, but it just seems a little bit too much of the same old same old. With QTE and very easy combat. The counter is rather difficult at first. I just wish you could only tilt the joystick to counter like Bayonetta did. Also the childish acting, like there are two people helping Raiden from somewhere else in the world, a lady and a male. And while the lady is talking, you can see the guy's hand slowling moving towards her tits, and then the camera moves to reveal a small mug that the guy was reaching for. Things like that remind me of why i'll only watch Lollipop Chainsaw on youtube. Because its hard to handle your junk when your hands are already occupied. Also, P* decided to keep a strong emphisis on shooting Raidens ass, just like MGS4 was. To me thats just too Japanese-y. I mean if you think Dante has tight pants on, wait till you get a nice and slow pan camera shot across Raidens ass......over and over again. Although i'll probably buy both games, i'm sure MGR won't have as much playability as DmC.

Why? It's exactly what I wanted. Ever since MGS4 people have been craving a playable Raiden experience and this is it.

MGR was never a retelling or a alternate take on MG, it's a spin-off. In no way is this altering, changing, or taking over the MG franchise. Those are all very important differences on senarios.

I'll wait to play the demo to say more. But I tend to like the matterials that P* creates even if they are flawed. There is always an element to their games that make it worth while.

There is a lot of combat depth in the demo you just have to find it (move list is pretty decent size).., but unfortunately at this point you can bypass a lot of enemies by sliding into blade mode or stagger one guy and cut the rest up with blade mode. Also stealth is very broken (and stupid). I hope they balance the combat by the time it comes out by adding tons of enemies to fight, increasing how fast enemies react to you when you take out blade mode, or only allow strict windows to use blade mode. Also the random slow motion when you knockdown grunt enemies with certain moves is pretty annoying and they should make activating blade mode after those moves a reward for fast reactions, and not "Hey here's slowdown for you, hint: use blade mode".

But other than that game has a nice solid feeling to it that I hope can be turned into combat quality like Bayonetta (or DMC3). But if I was directing the game I'd probably take blade mode out (lol). Also there will be more than one weapon in the game so we don't know how that will play into combos, while DmC has in their demo multiple weapons to switch between.

I kept fighting the first 3 guys over and over. raiden has a weird move set though. his first attack is usually a different slash every time which confused me at first. the random slow no is off putting but the ques should become second nature with time. both DmC and mgr look like really good games I'm just positive that DmC will have everything that I'm looking for.

Yah I'm not a fan of the variable first attacks but those only occur with light attack. From what I tested if you press light attack (wide attack) in the vicinity of an enemy you will do one of the following:
1) far away from enemy: dash towards an enemy (if locked on you dash toward the locked on enemy, he can also attack after this)
2) close but not too close: raiden rolls and attacks or jumps and attacks (4 different lunge forward attacks)
3) Right next to enemy: regular slash attack
4) enemy behind: stabs sword behind him.

Honestly, I think that MGR seems pretty generic and gimmicky compared to DmC. In MGR there are two attack buttons, one for light, one for heavy, and you pretty much mash the crap out of them the entire time. Don't get me wrong, MGR looks like fun, but DmC seems to have a much more fleshed out combat system

Depends on how you play the game. You can also do stealth in MGR which you can't in DmC. You can cut everything and everyone into a million pieces in every direction you want. DmC is combo attack-based gameplay and that is pretty much the only way to battle in this game. You get different weapons which you can mix-up into the combos, but none the less, it is slash or shoot. At least MGR has some new, innovative stuff in it where DmC don't add anything original into its gameplay.

None the less, they both look really cool and they are two different kind of games, so comparing the two with one another doesn't really make sense.

This is not true at all, you can mash the crap out of triangle all the time as well if you want in DmC, that doesn't mean the game doesn't offer you other options. MGR has a pretty varied moveset just from the demo with only one weapon.

You can even use a stinger-like move the same way you do stinger in DmC.

I suggest you watch this:
