For me, I'd love to see the DmC timeline abandoned, but it's gameplay to be carried forward into the main DMC games.
Maybe alternate between the two styles of gameplay. If DMC5 can pull off both, that's fantastic... but I doubt that'll be the case. That would take a LOT of work to do, but it would be nice if they could give us modifiers (infinite air hikes, infinite air dashes) to lower the learning curve. That was DMC4's biggest issue for me, the gameplay felt so boring and it's learning curve was far too brutal to get any kind of real enjoyment out of it. Disable leader boards, achievements, what have you - but let me enjoy all the tools in the sandbox. JC'ing is a great mechanic for advanced play, but it's simply not for everyone.
